Wouldn't that be too similar to 42178 and/or 42180?

Expand

Outpost will be License set. NASA project. Lego likes to do License set these years. Even very similar 42178 & 42180, but these 2 are non license sets.

Interestingly 2ttoys has revealed all of the summer sets links and they have revealed almost the full product description. Only 42215 description is missing

Based on their description 42214 supposed to have a "V12 engine with moving pistons, functional steering and smoothly opening scissor doors". This rules out remote control, so the next big question - will it really have 1135 pieces for $180?

Not necessarily. Is is possible that they moved the RC unit forward and squeezed a v12 cam engine behind it, using the rear facing drive outputs to drive the wheels and engine?

Lol, my bad... Note to self - avoid Eurobricks if you didn't sleep enough :D Anyway, the description didn't mention anything related to RC, I suppose that would be one of the highlights of the set. But I guess we'll have to wait a bit more to figure out the details.

I wonder - after introducing reddish-orange parts last year - if the Volvo's railings will be in that colour, because it matches better than regular orange.

Even though the photo is of the real thing, that bucket totally looks brick-built.

Does make me wonder how the bucket is going to be handled. Given that the bucket is a proprietary Volvo design, I'd put my money on it being a single element like the loader bucket.

I doubt it, personally. I'd think TLG would stick with normal orange, seeing as it would be the lower-cost option.

and the version we'll be seeing in set form.

Demolition ones, with long reach arms could not be made as set. Long arm is hard to raise a lot due to leverage, and LEGO motors, especially C+ ones are too weak to move it properly for LEGO stadards.

That was my thought as well.

So basically new 8043 :-) are we even mad? I just hope for big hub and 4 motors and not this 3in1 hub...

I Kinda want to see the Porsche hub reused in sets; this way TLG will have more incentive to keep developing it and eventually make its software moddable for Pybricks.

It depends. Like pretty much anything they could turn into a Technic flagship, it could turn out terrible or it could turn out great. For me personally, if it's the same as 8043 and 42100 (basically if it uses linear actuators), it's kinda pointless. We've already had 8043 and 42100 plus a plethora of other LA driven flagships. I actually could see myself not minding LAs so much but if it's all we get flagship after flagship despite a more mechanically authentic alternative existing, well how can I like it?! The last pneumatic flagship was the Arocs and we've never once had a remote controlled pneumatic set of any size. It's the overuse of LAs (especially in flagships) that has made me go mad, and made me go from seeing LAs as a novelty to wishing they'd just F right off!

I still think it'll be used in this summer's mid sized V12 car judging by the price and piece count.

TLG likes to add  "the  ***est" and here is a  novelty, innovation, progress. For example, the widest Lego excavator ever! How about that.

Does 42175 count as a flagship? It does have pneumatics:)

No, the flagship is the most expensive set of the year and is meant to be the best and most desirable set in order to justify it's high price, hence it's status as flagship.

Except that, at least traditionally, we've ruled out the 1:8 supercar sets, such that the Porsche 911 GT3 RS was not 2016's flagship over the slightly cheaper Bucket Wheel Excavator. In recent years, the non-supercar flagship seems to have been disappearing, though, so the distinction gets tougher

Yeah, the 1:8 cars are kinda their own thing. They could be seen as being flagship level, but they are their own subtheme of Technic. It could be (and I think has been) argued that the highest piece count for the year is what makes a flagship, but there is at least one exception to this rule, even ignoring the 1:8 cars.

Ignore the 1:8 cars and the flagship is the most expensive set released in any given year. I don't think there's ever been any exception to this. As for flagships disappearing, well there are Flagships (8868 in 1992, and 8880 in 1994) and then there are "flagships" (like that forklift transporter truck released between them in 1993). What separates the men from the boys, the Flagships from the "flagships" is a different, much bigger question.

So by that logic last year's flagship was G Wagon or Apollo Rover.... Over McLaren. I am not concinced. Neither Apollo Rover or G Wagon fits into the shoes of flagship.
