This is my contribution to the mini set contest. I have created a small set called "Ritual Sacrifice" for the Islanders faction. The Islanders didn't have many small sets so I decided to build one.

Aye, you are right about their lack of small sets, and this entry fills the spot perfectly. Here are my suggestions, I would swap the yellow plate for a dark grey, and maybe add some pieces to make it look like the top of a temple. Other than this I would add a knife/sword cause I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have used a spear, and since I see a cup I don't think the spear can carve out the heart too cleanly :pir-grin:. The only thing left is the 2x2 rounded bricks, are they tree stumps, I'm unsure what there used for. Anyway, Happy building :)

At first I used a knife from Aquazone but I wasn't satisfied with how it looked so I switched it out for a black spear. The brown rounded bricks are just meant to be a platform to stand on because ergonomics is very important. I have tried to keep the number of parts as low as possible and therefore I have restrained from providing too much detail. Thanks for all the great ideas how to improve the build!:kahuka:

Aye, I'm trying to build something right now and can't seem to get the parts to below 50, anyway, I hope there's more entries coming :)

I actually like that, creepy but a lovely little set :) Got a ready to play story and nice parts. I'm not sure if this chief priest should needs to be standing  on that elevetation. Tho i can't tell if it would be worse visually, but then again, this spear is quite long, so he would be able to reach him with it ;)

Now about the pirate, if he's to be sacrificed perhaps he should should have a bare chest, if not be seminaked. But then again, i like his current look.

I also think that with one simple trick this offering could get itself an easy to make alternative set up, but You'd need to add one extra piece somewhere in here. What I mean is, this bench and that tribal banner could make a pretty nice throne, with, i guess, our pirate getting promoted to a king, should the priest change his mind or get thunderstriked ;)

Or maybe that what he's doing right now? Maybe he's not trying to kill him, but rather, evaluating if he's worth to become a warrior king, or maybe he's just doing some baba aga haga kaga spelling to make this pirate an invincible warrior?

But about that extra element i hinted, there's this "pillow" piece, right under pirate's head, if You'd have one more piece like this, Youd could use them for armrests for that throne. And then even those circular brown "elevation" bricks, that chief priest stands on, could be used to either raise the throne up, or to put them behind that bench at fit that totem into them. Or the totem could stand the way it is build now, and those brown pieces could be used to support plants and they could be located behind the throne as well, to make it esthetically even more original ;)

But that's if You'd like to try something else for this set, right now it still looks cool, the way it is, and it doesn't realy need any redecorating ;)

@MazinThe throne alternate build idea sounds very interesting. The extra brown tile needed for that could maybe be put under the altar in the original build. What happens to the pirate is up to each person's own imagination. That is what's great about Lego from this age, you have to use your imagination and no faction is portrayed as evil. It's up to you to decide who the good guys are or who'll win. I remember when I was a kid and played with Pirate Lego sets I always let the Imperial Soldiers or Imperial Guards win because for me they are the good guys (they still are my favorite factions from the Pirate theme) while my neighbor liked the pirates more and we used to have huge battles in his basement. I brought my imperial forts that he would attack with his pirate ships and the battle could last for hours without a declared winner. Those were fun times. Maybe I got a little off topic but I miss those days so much.

Yeah, i remember that "rule" too, tho, just by looking at photos in catalogues i always felt that Pirates were the good guys as they always seemed to be beating the crap out of Soldiers ;) Same goes for castle sets, "robin-hoods" seemed to be winning with knights, so... But i think they're not into it anymore, Lego i mean, it's sort of planned in advance for us, or kids, who should we use as good or bad.

I miss my battles with my childhood friend too, bud, i guess most if not all of us do... even tho i never had any imperial forts ;)

BUT back to the topic :) Last time i commented i forgot to mention that pirate could probably be in chains, so that he would not escape, cause right now he just lays there with nothing keeping him there realy. Tho, since there is a ceremonial cap by his bench, i guess he was probably just drunk by the hight priest, and that's why he is in a state where he can't escape, but await his doom ;)

Looks good, nice design overall, and definitely feels like a classic set.  Except, human sacrifice wouldn't be a topic in an official set :pir-wink:  The closest to that theme I can recall is 6246 Crocodile Cage, which does come pretty close.

I agree that a short chain wrapped around the pirate would improve the set.

Nice little build overall!

It's a bit of a nit picking, but going with the old classic style islanders I guess all the wood would be black. In the old pirates sets brown was only used for accessories and some specialized parts, all other wooden structures were mostly black. Maybe that is also why the brown doesn't work so good with yellow ground in my eyes?

As suggested I also think gray would be a better option for the ground. Maybe also for the altar along with a small statue?

I don't see what is the advantage of trying to use as little parts as possible. If 50 is cap, I'd say you can only benefit with using as many as possible ...

One small suggestion: maybe change the bandana of the pirate to be blue so that he stands out. There is a lot of red and yellow in the build and some blue would add some contrast.
