I know everybody here is mostly focused on the games, especially given the January sets, but there are like 2-3 popular Sonic shows streaming right now. My guess is the Knuckles set is another random compilation of Robotnik builds vs. a hero, and the Sonic Team truck is probably something closer to the hideouts from one of the shows, along with a handful of characters (probably Sonic, Tails, and Amy).

My personal wish would be some Chaotix characters or Big, but with how many new molds and recolors this theme gets, I'm happy either way.

With said molds and recolors this theme gets, I wouldn't be surprised if we only get one of the Chaotix members in the summer

To be honest, I don‘t expect any new minifigs :laugh_hard: I could totally see them pairing up Rouge and Knuckles again in one set, and using the core cast in the other (i.e., Sonic, Tails, Amy, Knuckles, and Shadow).

Hasn't every wave so far had someone new?

Amy, Tails and Eggman in the first wave. ( Sonic himself predates the first wave thanks to Dimensions and Ideas)

Shadow, Knuckles and Rogue in the Second.

Supersonic in the third.

Super Shadow and metal sonic in the fourth.

Big and or Cream would make perfect sense for the Team Sonic Truck set. Or (though I'd prefer they get the Heroes cast first) Silver, or Blaze or at least a moulded Chao. Cheese and Cholat with Cream would be good.

Though TBH neither of the sets sound too interesting so perhaps I wouldn't want any interesting new characters trapped in sets I don't want .

I'm actually much more of a sonic fan now than I was when the theme started, but Heroes is still my nostalgic childhood favourite so it's characters are the ones I want to see.

Fingers crossed for Vector to get the minifig treatment next, and if we're very lucky, Espio too.

(I imagine Charmy would just be one of those city baby pieces to help the budget haha)

Yeah, but now they‘ve done pretty much all of the core characters and I‘m not sure how willing they are to feature members of Team Rose, Team Chaotix and so on :shrug_oh_well: Hopefully they will!

I see Bigs come up a lot in speculation,  but com’on guys, no shot Lego would do a mold like that unless they’d done literally everyone else. He’s the JarJar of the Sonic franchise, and considering his size, we’d be lucky to get him with a molded head and brick built body before the theme expires.

If we’re just going off patterns, Silver and Blaze seem like the next most likely to appear. Maybe Cream and Cheese since so they could reuse Cream’s head for Vanilla later. Eggman Nega could be in the pipeline too since he’s just a recolor, but he’s probably too obscure.

I mean, saying he's the Jar-Jar of the Sonic franchise doesn't exactly rule him out, given the number of Jar-Jar figs Lego has made over the years.

I doubt they'd opt for Big right away too (especially because he's not exactly the most practical character for the theme's typical "action play"), but I could see a fig of him working sort of similarly to Eggman, and the same qualities that make Big a bit of a laughingstock for some make him a sort of niche favorite for others, which is part of why he often gets cameos and shout-outs in games and comics.

I'm not expecting any new minifigure characters. These two sets don't sound too promising. My biggest hope is that part of the budget for new molds is going to the introduction of a new Chao piece. But I think the introduction of these two pieces might mean an Orbot in the same style as Cubot could finally be done justice. Maybe he'll be in the Eggman set.

I guess it's also possible Cream appears in the truck. She's the only character beyond Tails/Knuckles/Amy I really think you could squint and say has ever been a member of Team Sonic, even if that was like 20 years ago. :P But that set probably has Sonic, Tails, and Amy, maybe with the latter finally getting a variant of some kind. And who knows, there could be a surprise villain character there too. Though it's hard to imagine who/what that would be if they aren't important enough to be mentioned in the set name.

Another potential piece which might be preventing new characters would be a new set of tails to depict Tails flying. But it's also possible that after the first two years the mold budget has simply decreased, and so Metal Sonic was the only new character they could create with what they had. It's hard to complain too much. I never really expected Rouge, Metal Sonic, Super Shadow, the Cyclone, or Biolizard. Everything else this theme gets is gravy at this point, imo.

Edit: Also for what it's worth, Big is pretty much at the top of my wishlist for minifigure characters right now. He's been around for a long time, and even if his first appearance wasn't that great, I think it's fun to see him when he shows up. I think he's appeared in recent games and other media more frequently than Cream, the Chaotix, and the Babylon Rogues. Molding would be expensive, but at least the first two years of this theme had a pretty generous budget for minifigure pieces it seems.

A Chao piece would be the most budget friendly option and those two new pieces were pretty much made with Orbot in mind, but they might have enough of it left over for atleast one new character that would only need a new headmold (The Sonic nerd in me REALLY wants Jet, but Cream realistically has a higher chance)

They've been linked in the post but if the link's not working for you it's the clip with stud and the 1*1 dome.

Big and Cream are actually my top two choices for the next Sonic character(s) to be depicted in Lego. Also keep in mind they’ve released two variants of Tails, Shadow, and Knuckles too I believe with alternate faces, so if Cream for example comes in a bad set this year, you may still be able to get her next year with an angry expression or something like that.

Yeah personally had no idea he was a laughing stock character. I don’t play the games and I haven’t seen the show. Only really know him from youtube short snippets and I thought he had a cool design. Just on an aesthetic level he has a standout design amongst the cast. Would love to get him in Lego.

Now that we've gotten several waves of Sonic sets, what does everyone think the best sets of the theme are so far?

Value or Builds?

As Build wise for sure Death Egg Robot.

Mainly in terms of builds. I've only just started dabbling in the theme after recently picking up the Kiki polybag set on a whim.

I'll have to keep the Death Egg Robot in mind.

My favourite is still the Ideas Green Hill Zone. I think it looks good and reflects the game nicely. I built a MOC from Rebrickable of Chemical Plant Zone too, and would like to make a couple more levels. I think it's a shame they didn't do a few extensions in that style.

Of the playsets, I have the Death Egg robot, Tails' plane and the Green Hill Zone with Amy, but only got that because it was on clearance. My children don't really like Sonic, so there wasn't much interest in the game aspect of it, and I'm not sure it has replay value bring the initial gimmick. But again, not tested.

None of the others particularly appeal. But then, I only had Sonic 1 and 2 games, so I'm clearly missing out on a bunch of the canon.

I can't say much Value wise since the sets are overpriced in Canada due to Inflation.

Main reason why I only own a few. Waited for a sale or asked for it as a gift.
I do have every figure sans Metal Sonic, Super Sonic and Super Shadow (Not counting the alternate expression heads)

I might pick up the Biolizard set if it goes on sale. But I'm not getting the Tails plane mech as I'm hoping for Lego to make a more accurate Metal Sonic figure with proper legs and torso prints.

As a note, aside from the Kiki polybag, the only other two sets from this theme I picked up so far are the Shadow's Escape and the Sonic's Campfire Clash sets. If I see the Balkiry polybag show up at a store in my area, I'm sure I'll also pick that up on sight.

Oh yes, I have two of the Kiki polybags too. Also on clearance. Will get a Balkiry if I see it. I like the look of it.

I guess I might also have to keep an eye out for the Ideas set while it is still reasonably easy to find.

I really enjoyed it. This is the Chemical Plant Zone addition - LEGO MOC Sonic The Hedgehog - Chemical Plant Zone by Carbohydrates | Rebrickable - Build with LEGO

And my build of it (which is slightly modified)

That's pretty neat! I guess the Ideas set, both with or without extra stuff added, seems to have great display potential.

It does! Still one of my favourite Sonic sets, but it has a pretty big weakspot, namely Eggman/Robotnik. The brickbuilt version looks supremely silly (especially the head), and it‘s even worse when put next to the figure from the actual theme
