Darkkostas25 Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 (edited) It all started as a challenge to make PRR GG1. One of my favourite engines from PRR(and they got lots of Beautes) While making GG1 and making some modules and references I choose to make an R1 too coz it's similar by design (maybe P5a...)https://www.bricklink.com/v3/studio/design.page?idModel=366514 PRR Class GG1 Update:-New colour schema (main black and yellow for lines) -New narrower front part -some changes in the base -if bricklink disables the download link try to do the instruction and post on Rebricble (or other variants if will be on replies) https://www.bricklink.com/v3/studio/design.page?idModel=427159 Original: PRR Class DD2 Update: https://www.bricklink.com/v3/studio/design.page?idModel=427163 Original: PRR Class P5a Update:https://www.bricklink.com/v3/studio/design.page?idModel=427162 Original: PRR Class R1 Update:https://www.bricklink.com/v3/studio/design.page?idModel=427161 Original: ======================================== Edited April 11, 2023 by Darkkostas25 Add new versions and links but may be not final or last edit (sorry) Quote
Murdoch17 Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 (edited) These both look very nice and very sleek! I also don't think I've ever seen anyone do an R1 before, so kudos to you on being the first! It's kind of disappointing the real R1 (or another single prototype, the DD2) didn't survive long enough to be preserved. Speaking of the DD2, while don't you try that as well? Along with the P5a, this would be all of the PRR steeple cabs. Side note: The original boxcab-type P5 has a sole survivor (4700) which at my local RR museum along with GG1 4918. (Neither are in too great a shape, sadly!) Edited October 2, 2022 by Murdoch17 Quote

Great work on them all, though you might want to rename the topic, as it doesn't quite fit anymore, @Darkkostas25! @JopieK I think this would look awesome as the front-page, if I may be so bold to say so. The second to last pic screams for it to be seen by everyone! Edited October 2, 2022 by Murdoch17 Quote
Feuer Zug Posted October 3, 2022 Posted October 3, 2022 Excellent collection of GG1 versions. Thank you for showing the R1 as well. I wasn't even aware of it's existence until now. Quote
Paperinik77pk Posted October 3, 2022 Posted October 3, 2022 Great locomotive and really smooooooth design! I love the GG1 and this is a very nice MOC!!! It makes me wanting to create a "retro" style version!!! Quote
Hod Carrier Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 Ooo, yes!! I do like those rather a lot. Quote

Supplement_Creatif Posted October 5, 2022 Posted October 5, 2022 What a beautiful locomotives! The stilling looks almost more European than North American. I also love the brick built stripe, fantastic! Quote
LordsofMedieval Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 (edited) My advice: use the downslope technique on all of them. It matters less if that slope isn't quite "right" for the GG1 and P5a, and more that it's simply smooth. These engines were known for their curves - the staggering is just distracting. But the eye takes a lot longer to catch the fact that smooth line isn't quite the right smooth line. Edited October 10, 2022 by LordsofMedieval Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted October 10, 2022 Posted October 10, 2022 This is not one of my favorite locomotive ...but man ...you've done a great MOC. Very neat design! Quote

I don`t like unnecessary gaps and holes and it`s hard to make a proper angle but may try in future Thanks for reply Quote
vincelam58 Posted October 26, 2022 Posted October 26, 2022 Great work! The model looks realistic, the color is great as well. Quote
Murdoch17 Posted July 21 Posted July 21 @Darkkostas25 Damn... That is very impressive! I see a couple techniques I may have to borrow for my own GG1.... like that keystone, for instance. (which is pure unfiltered genius by the way!!) Quote

I will try to add motors and then re-publish on Bricklink. And maybe show some "insides" if I don't forget... And thanks Quote
Feuer Zug Posted July 22 Posted July 22 That's quite the locomotive. Looks good with the stepped sides to approximate the angled sides on the real GG1. What radius curves is it designed for? Quote

Only after real-life testing/building, I hope I can give a proper answer, coz lots of my assumptions based on previous builds were sadly wrong Quote
LL1982 Posted July 23 Posted July 23 Wow I have never seen an locomotive like this. Totally odd design and I understand you found this attractive to build. Great work on this. Your undercarriages also look very interesting. I see some nice stuff in that with those couplers and letting those front and back ends just flow freely. Quote

Fortunately, after a bit of googling I found this. It looks great! Just one question, your older GG1 on bricklink is "for display only", do you plan on selling the design? The world needs more great Lego train MOC's available and with all your great work you deserve some compensation from those who want to follow in your footsteps. As a personal disclaimer, I've been working on my own GG1 and independently came up with the same keystone design (just putting that out there that great minds think alike, and I sometimes think like them too) Quote

Coz it puts on display even my own design/ideas coz there may be a similar IP somewhere and maybe put for Chinese companies coz I need money. Quote
zephyr1934 Posted July 25 Posted July 25 So these builds are restricted on BL based on IP??? Because you state that build is of something specific, "PRR GG1" in this case? Or some other reason? Whatever reason, that sucks. While your build is an amazing rendition of a GG1, few would mistake it for being an actual GG1. Could you get around the IP constraint by simply calling it an electric locomotive inspired by the GG1? Or drop GG1 entirely? What about posting it to rebrickable? Quote
