CloneCommando99 Posted November 22, 2024 Posted November 22, 2024 I haven’t actually gotten any Lego Transformers yet. Would you recommend them as fun builds? I ask as I’ve seen some very intriguing deals in the UK. Quote

Hasbro actually finally put the "what color are the funny cassette men" fight to rest by making a blue figure representing the G1 "Frenzy" toy and calling him Rumble. (Frenzy is Red, Rumble is Blue. This is the way.) 4 hours ago, CloneCommando99 said: I haven’t actually gotten any Lego Transformers yet. Would you recommend them as fun builds? Regardless, Lego Optimus is in my opinion one of the best sets of all time just for how effectively it pulls off the transformation and how solid it looks in both modes. I highly reccomend it to anyone who likes lego or transformers even if they didn't like both. Bumblebee's a little tougher. His car mode is EXCELLENT but his bot mode is much rougher than Optimus's. I'll give them some slack as it's notoriously hard to make a transforming figure that becomes his G1 cartoon mode, but it's still a bit of a step down. Quote

They won't look great in at least one mode, to be sure, but with Mixel joints I think you can make something that's at least stable and resembles a tape in one mode and a birb/cat/small man in another. I agree. It's perfectly possible. Although my attempts arent great in either mode, I can see that it could easily be improved. So can't wait to see what Lego do. I can't wait to see how Lego approach him. Edited November 26, 2024 by pjhinthehouse Removed unnecessary images Quote
Mandalorianknight Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 Looks great in bird mode! I agree it could use improvement in cassette mode, but I certainly haven't found a way to do it better, and this is by far the best transforming Laserbeak moc I've seen. Now... *cocks fusion cannon* ... make him yellow. Buzzsaw fans rise up. Quote

Plus there have been some great versions done but they were larger. Edited November 27, 2024 by pjhinthehouse More detail Quote
BitByBrick Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 Very excited about a LEGO Soundwave to display alongside the original 1980s Soundwave I got as a kid from the Sears catalog / wish book for about $20. (Wonder what that would be adjusted to inflation?) But I digress… hope the LEGO designers give it a good G1 look with maybe a cassette or two. Having the cassettes in their alternate forms (bird, robot, etc) as non-transforming builds might be the way to go for a better looking design. We shall see. Looking forward to it. Now the important question… When might this set release? Looking for any educated guesses. Thanks! Quote
BitByBrick Posted January 21 Posted January 21 August Release? 1500 pieces? Can’t wait for more reveals. Quote

Same hope here. Given that Optimus is generally supposed to be one of the larger bots and Soundwave's a similar piece count (and will have to have a hollow torso), I think we'll see at least 2-3 cassettes. Ravage and Laserbeak for sure, Maybe Rumble or Frenzy if we're lucky (And whichever of the two we don't get + Ratbat as a GWP) Quote
jonwil Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Soundwave is a no-brainer for the line. Very recognizable to anyone who follows the franchise and (unlike most of the main Decepticon characters) isn't even vaguely military looking. Quote
Mandalorianknight Posted January 30 Posted January 30 brickheadz confirmed! Glad they exist, but would rather they come with more characters rather than vehicle modes. Also, I'll say it, bumblebee's overrated, the brickheadz should have been megatron, but they created an alt-mode issue for a product that didn't need alt-modes. Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted January 30 Posted January 30 The vehicle modes look equal parts hilarious and adorable Both were translated really well into Brickheadz form! Quote

Might they do a Soundwave brickheadz as a gift with purchase? It would be ideal to have all 3 icons sets to have a matching brickheadz! Or, better yet, we could get a SW brickheadz earlier AND the GWP is a brickheadz teasing the next icons transformer? 🤔 Quote

Maybe after these first two we start getting packs of characters we don't already have in lego form- Soundwave could be fun to have with some of his minicassettes, Starscream and Megs would be great and if in bot mode only would circumvent any potential issues with their alt-modes, etc. In 2026 we could get characters like Hot Rod and Galvatron, Arcee and Magnus, etc. Quote
Murdoch17 Posted February 12 Posted February 12 New Transformer Brickheadz were just added to Brickset's catalog! 40803 Optimus Prime Robot & Vehicle 40804 Bumblebee Robot & Vehicle Prices currently are unknown. Quote

Yeah, we've known about these for a few weeks now, it is very exciting to see them in more places. They're up on the lego website for $20. Quote

I can't wait to see how they do Soundwave, and hope they get everything including arms folded neatly away unlike my attempt. Quote

Brickheadz Shockwave would be really interesting considering his unique head design. Nice MOCs, but man, Jazz can't catch a break, ripped in half even in lego form. Is it some sort of twisted karma for him and cliff surviving the 86 movie that cliff must always die and Jazz must always lose limbs? Quote

I do think they'll be able to do Lazerbeak pretty well, even with my slightly limited parts I've made improvements compared to the original Buzzsaw. So I'm sure some clever person at Lego would find an even better way of doing cassettes that fit his chest. Quote
imposter Posted March 3 Posted March 3 I just bought Transformers One. It was inspiring so much that I collect money for that Optimus Prime LEGO set. Problem is that I'm new with Transformers. I have seen some movies like this: BUT whole LORE is difficult to understand. And those different versions. Optimus Prime colors should be: Blue, Red and White. In LEGO model it is light grey. And it somehow look a bit different. Quote

Transformers, much like superhero characters in Marvel and DC, have had a lot of varied depictions across various media over the years. Sometimes Optimus's color scheme has more white and sometimes more grey, and his look in both robot and vehicle mode varies as well (for instance, Transformers One is adapting some of the early Transformers lore before the Transformers got to Earth, so the vehicle modes are designed to look more sci-fi and less like specific human vehicles). The Lego set is based mainly on Optimus's original look as a toy as well as his appearance in the original 1980s cartoon series, which accounts for aspects like the classic boxy shape and the color scheme. There are many versions of the lore. Just like DC, where there are multiple batmans- one of whom can have a shadow box, while the other might meet the ninja turtles- there are different iterations of the transformers. Transformers One is one of my favorites, but so far it's only got the one movie. I'd suggest checking out the Generation One cartoon, which is what most of the sets are based on, and includes the movie you linked. Some other shows I've liked are Transformers Prime (free on youtube) and the War for Cybertron Trilogy (on Netflix). Optimus Prime is Blue, Red, and White in the G1 cartoon, but his toy was Blue, Red, and grey. As a result newer toys alternate between grey and white. Quote
imposter Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Ok this helped a lot. Both answers. This looks quite nice the art style. Quote
pjhinthehouse Posted March 4 Posted March 4 I always took the variation as being just the use of white to represent shiny metal, but later uses of grey as a dull metal. But it's a great point that I never even considered as I come from the very start and grown up with the variations over time. Quote

Lots of character differences are due to differences between the original toy and cartoon. Things like Bumblebee's mask, character colors, etc. I do like your idea that in-universe Optimus's standard paint job includes white that over time flakes away in battle to become more grey, though.
