Based on the vague things we've heard on this $500 set my guess is a large scale quinjet with the OG Avengers lineup

It fits in that it could be seen as a celebration of 10 years of Lego Marvel. It would be a bit of a curveball and would probably have a mixed reception. Plus Lego are doing a similarly scaled ship for the UCS Razorquest

To repeat and clarify info on the $500 D2C:

  • It's seemingly not something suggested by people so far, though it's possible they were unaware of some suggestions this should rule out Stark/Avengers Tower which almost everyone including myself had hoped the D2C to be
  • It's not an Icons set, at least it's not labelled as one
  • It can be viewed as a celebration of the franchise
  • It has minifigures

I feel this will be similar to how the Daily Bugle kinda came out of nowhere. It'll probably be something that makes sense but is not really something people have considered.

Thanks  So it must either be a location or a vehicle, if icons truly are out of the picture.

Something that nobody has suggested so far, yet celebrates the franchise? *huh* No clue, to be honest

It being described as a celebration of the franchise suggests to me it’s not a singular location, scene or vehicle. Suggests more of a collection of some kind.

If that’s not an Icons style set I wonder if it could be a collection of vignettes showcasing iconic scenes housed in something similar to the Mario ? Block (thinking the Marvel Studios logo).

Not at all expecting that, simply thinking out loud as I’m really struggling to think what it could be.

Again though, a celebration of the franchise is phrasing that I find so fascinating.

There is a lot of stuff going around that is based off a few comments that were taken a little out of context

Clarification will probably come soon

I wouldn't overthink or read into comments too much about the D2C made over the last couple of days as it's only going to temper expectations or make you get hopes up for something we might not get.

At the end of the day we are around 3 months for release so detailed info we normally get for D2C's won't be long away.

As with every set we get from Lego there will be people who like it and people who don't.

I feel tempering expectations may be better here than letting them run wild considering what the expectations people have/had of the set were :shrug_oh_well:

Temper expectations = it's worse than Daily Bugle or Sanctum Santorum, which basically means we're getting $500 worth of Hogwarts Express disappointment.

Yea, my idea would be making both sides symmetrical and maybe enlarge the window sections by 2 studs each (an extra window), but I don't know if that would conflict with the sanctum printed dish piece as I can't make that one bigger.

You can't do it symetrical, as the sand-green pieces would need to be mirrored in order to do that

Better than extending it wide would be extending it deep, so theres room in the entry, etc...

I'm not the type to gush, but wow the Sanctum is an amazing set. I would typically never pay this much for a set, but I splurged, and I've been blown away by the building techniques the entire time. I can't get over how the designer made the front corner of the building differently on each level.

The easter eggs are amazing and I'm a huge fan of hidden features, and the Sanctum has a ton. If the figs were better, this would probably be an east winner for best Superhero theme set ever IMO.

same thing! I'm so happy I got it, loved the building process so much! Maybe I'd liked it to be a bit more deep but considering it has to be next to the rest of modulars I don't really mind it that much.

You clearly forgot about set 76008.

I understand why the decision was made, but for me, the Sanctum needs to be widened with a mirrored exterior and made deeper. The visuals of the sanctum feel incomplete when viewed from the front and I don't feel the flat edge connecting to other buildings would really suit this - it's somewhat intended to feel out of place with things around it.

  • Increasing the width with the side segment gives you around 3-5 studs more interior space, dependant on layer
  • Increasing the depth can give you an additional 1-6 studs of space on each layer depending on how much you care about the back alley

Due to the nature of its design currently any changes made to the flat wall in the upper layer are noticeable on the exterior, this has limitations in terms of what can be added to the wall without altering the appearance of the exterior. While replicating the smooth exterior will not necessarily increase the interior space it does allow for you to do more with the wall without it altering the exterior design.

For example, you can change the interior wall colour without it impacting the exterior. Increasing the depth of this layer allows you to move the interior backwards giving more room for you to pose characters looking out the window and more room for displays of varying magical items.

The cramped nature of the second layer is its primary flaw. Increasing the depth gives you more room to display the characters near the bookshelves or in fighting positions. You'd likely need to shift where the tentacle monster emerges slightly but it would enable a  more spacious feel for better posing.

This lower layer benefits the most from the design changes, gaining additional space between the entrance and the staircase allowing characters to be displayed at the bottom of the staircase like in Infinity War. It also allows for more of an exploration on the segments either side of the staircase and a more grandiose feel.

Do the pieces exist to mirror it?

I think if you mirrored the Sanctum it would extend beyond the base plate by 1/2 a stud on each side or you could try to tighten the angle, either way it wouldn't be an easy mod and a pretty big overhaul.

I'm 2/3rds done the Sanctum and overall I'm loving the set, but I do wish the designer gave us a back alley of 4 studs instead of 6 studs though... 6 studs feels quite wasteful, especially with the mainfloor feeling so cramped.

When I eventually get the set, Ill likely dismantle (after building it once) and merge it into a partial (ground floor mostly) version I was building prior to the rumours of this set. I'd change to a baseplate and a half (48x32). Id mirror the sides tho roof corners might need alternating someway due to missing sand green piece (could change roof to black but Id prefer sand green myself) and extend depth to back edge (don't care about alleys on modulars). Id add a second floor instead of the fake first/second floors on the exterior. Redo the staircase either to be modular/replaceable or build a collapsable feature for Banner crashing through in IW. I'd remove removal walls and the portal play features and have the portals setup as in DS1 with static/replaceable portals instead of the slide.

Can understand why designer didnt do all of the above though as cost would ramp up. My version will definitely steal the corner design as that was what I was struggling with most and from what Ive seen of the set and the instructions, the designer has done an amazing job even though I agree with majority who complain about the space/size.

The Assembly Square modular might make for a good companion building for its neighbour if the mirrored corner lines up with it as an alternative to its neighbour in the films/concept art as medium nougat corner on top floors match up so might get that at some point.

A fur piece would've made all the difference. Without it, the minifigure feels plain and too light. M'Baku is a huge guy after all.

I almost wonder if something like Wrecker/Paz Vizla's armor would work here, some new mold combining the chestplate and fur. It really makes those SW characters look like "big guys", but not monstrous or inhumanly large like the axl mold or a bigfig. Sometimes you just need a little extra bulk, and since M'Baku is just a large man, I think it would work.

Though of course, it'd require a new mold.
