Just finished building the Money Tree set, it's quite nice, and in person, the top slopes don't look as bad imo.

Also easily converted to something like a normal minifig tree or apple tree.

Bonsai Tree is also still available so probably more desirable as display model.

Did something turn up for. CNY sets yet?

There is a GWP set confirmed for January, which pretty much confirms the "main" set is happening

There are also 2 Disney Lunar New Year BrickHeadz

So far what I could find for 2024 is a "Chinese Festival Calendar" set.

Also Creator 3-in-1 will have a Red Dragon.

3-in-1 has had red dragons multiple times, but with this timing, it very well makes sense, as it's Year of the Dragon in 2024, and there have been Tiger and Rabbit sets previously.

I almost feel like that Lego is sort of running out of ideas for CNY.

Last year they made those display pieces which were nice, but could have used some minifigs in some way.

Agreed. And I love collecting ses that include minifigures. Plus a cool costumed minifigure (pig, rat, ox, tiger, rabbit). I don’t mind that they revisit dragon boat race or dragon date performance like we had lion dance in 2020.

Not ito display stuff like red enevelope or calendar or tea pot or a big lettuce (lol) or whatnot.

If they have a Modular buidling for CNY, I will take it. But not likely.

I’m so wanting a modular style Chinese- inspired building.

That would be amazing - Is there any indication that this will happen, or just wishful thinking?

As an American who didn’t have a chance to buy the first two, I would love to see a dragon dance set, but more in line with this year’s parade. I understand the functionality of the old one...but I’d much prefer it without the stand. Next to the lion dancers, I always love seeing those dragons snake their way down the road.

Agreed.

I would be greatly pleased that they include a dragon dance for the worldwide release.

Good point!

Someone posted earlier that the first sets in this series are quite old, hard to find, and needs to be re-made!

The link I posted earlier did not go through, so here is a MOC I found on RB of a Chinese restaurant:

https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-158066/LEt.sGO/chinese-restaurant/#details

I think that is more 'westernized' in that it is a formal restaurant. I wish Lego could make one of those informal ones you see at the ground floor of narrow buildings in Asia - the kind that sells Chinese bbq/ cold cuts that are hanging by the window. Growing up, I've often seen Lion and Dragon dances in the narrow streets in front of these buildings, with food carts/ hawkers around.

Chinese New Year is a bit later this year, in February so the sets might get released a bit later as well. As far as running out of ideas, I can see that. I don't think they are going to do some of the things that normally take place during that time, like going to the Buddhist temples and such.

I would love to see a modular Buddhist temple in that Lunar New Year subtheme.  I’m not sure if Buddhism is allowed since it’s religious?

I doubt they would easily run out of ideas, but it's curious to see a listing for a Chinese New Year calendar, which could mean, perhaps other sets could release in other season for 2024, 80103 Dragon Boat Race in 2019 was a May release in China/Oceania after all, later made worldwide.

June is month for the Dragon Boat festival and 2024 is Year of the Dragon, so perhaps something in summer instead of a big winter set.

Also the Creator 3-in-1 Dragon (that follows up the Tiger and Rabbit from previous years) is just a very small set, so there could still be a big dragon set later.

Still, Year of the Dragon would be a good time to release a set like the Dragon Dance again, as that set was not available in most of the world, not a straight copy of course as the original did come with a year of the pig costume.

Speaking of Year of the Dragon…. I am curious to see a new dragon mask. The existing dragon mask from Series 18 and 23 is basically European rather than Asian.

I find that the Chinese New Yearsets have lots of interesting parts and recolor of some good parts.  So I usually buy at least one if not both of the big sets.   I passed on this year's though.  They are usually very expensive and there wasn't enough newness I wanted to make either one worth actually buying for me.  I'm just picking up the few parts I want from PAB this year.  Those oversized heads & giant Rabbit just freak me out.  The parade set was a cute idea but overall it just didn’t wow me and the smaller set just didn’t have anything I'm interested in. I did get the Tree set.

I actually like the Chinese New Year sets. I think some of them are good for town builders.

Speaking of Chinese holidays/festivals, happy belated Mid-Autumn Festival! I realized today I've never actually tasted a mooncake... gonna have to try that someday.

Bro! I've been trying to get my hands on the 80107 Spring Lantern Festival, but it is rare and according to the official site, its sold out.
