Lion King Posted Friday at 12:45 PM Posted Friday at 12:45 PM Hmmm I’m not familiar with that set for Chinese New Year so I will look it up. But that set looks fantastic! Quote

Specifically this isn't based on Chinese New Year but rather the Mid-Autumn Festival (hence the inclusion of mooncakes and a fig representing Su Dongpo, a Song dynasty poet who wrote a famous poem about the mid-autumn moon). This topic is labeled as Chinese New Year sets but the "theme" as such is actually called "Chinese Traditional Festivals" (even if in past years that has rarely included festivals other than the spring festival celebrating the Lunar New Year). It's great to see the theme branching out more to include other occasions and celebrations! Quote
RichardGoring Posted Friday at 01:25 PM Posted Friday at 01:25 PM It looks amazing, but I've just realized they don't have the animal year costume in this set, which normally happens. I wonder if that means another set, or they're going to drop the idea, which is a bit of a shame. 33 minutes ago, Lyichir said: Specifically this isn't based on Chinese New Year but rather the Mid-Autumn Festival (hence the inclusion of mooncakes and a fig representing Su Dongpo, a Song dynasty poet who wrote a famous poem about the mid-autumn moon). That makes sense not to have the New Year animal costume in it then. Quote

Yeah, this thread’s title automtially amkes me think of Chinese New Year, rather than traditions festivals. But it’s really nice to have non-CNY festivals. Come to link I remember that story when I was in college. My colelge used to celebrate that traditon when it was mid-autumn. I am hoping there are no stickers. Quote
danth Posted Saturday at 05:40 PM Posted Saturday at 05:40 PM Wow, this is a good one. I'd love more historical sets like this. On 5/1/2026 at 9:09 AM, Lion King said: I am hoping there are no stickers. Prepare to be disappointed. Quote

Have not been keeping close watch... have we just got CNY in past years, or we also got some mid-autumn sets as well? @Mods, please split the thread or modify the title/ thread as you see fit. Quote

Mostly it's been Lunar New Year sets coming out at the start of the year (probably because that's the biggest "gift-giving" holiday of the year, much like the Christmas season is in other countries). The only exception up until now was 80103 Dragon Boat Race, which came out in May of 2019 to celebrate a festival that typically takes place in late May or early June. Quote

Well, I'm really liking the idea of Lego going outside of just CNY sets. I would really love for them to feature events/ places like the Harbin Ice Festival! Quote

The Jade rabbit also was release mid-year, though probably not everyone would count him towards the rest. No idea how the theme is officially called as it is just placed under "other" in their shop, so probably it isn´t even an own theme officially. Brickset lists them under Seasonals as Chinese Traditional Festival, probably better than listing them as Chinese new year but probably not completely hitting the nail either. Quote

Chinese Traditional Festivals (CTF) is the internal name for these sets, which is probably as close as we'll get. A part of me thinks that this theme expanding/branching out now is partly due to the void left by the Monkie Kid theme now that that's over. Quote
Lion King Posted Saturday at 11:04 PM Posted Saturday at 11:04 PM I support “CHINESESE TRADITIONAL FESTIVALS” as a new title for this thread. @Peppermint_M, do you mind if you could change a title as the creator of the thread seems inactive here? Quote

Was referring to more structures made of different colored transparent bricks, and Lego could probably even include a light brick. But I'm pretty sure a third party light company will offer a good add on product. That ice festival I am referring to is on my bucket list: https://www.smithsonianmag.com/travel/harbin-ice-snow-festival-2019-180971227/ Also, there is an actual lantern festival in Chengdu where they also construct structures and pavilions out of lantern material. It is not just about hanging lanterns: https://chengdu-expat.com/2025-lantern-festivals-in-around-chengdu/ Quote

I wonder if Lego would branch out to other "oriental" locations? Japan, Korea,, or even further down south to Thailand, etc. They could definitely do some Peranakan houses and those would be great modulars! Quote
TeriXeri Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago (edited) Definately the best set of the theme since 2024 restaurant. Wish the horse costume fig was in it but oh well, getting an actual horse is nice, especially a color that was absent for a while. (2023/2024 had white horse body in some marvel/harry potter set but the last set it had a head with regular white horse bridle print was 2019 harry potter I think) Product picture are a bit weird when they show the horse with a gap, but it has a brick/tile on the other pics. Great set though. Its on my wishlist. Quote

I would love to see different festivals around the world as we ahve Day of the Dead, Halloween, Christmas, Easter, Chinese New Year. I’m brought the Western festivals are incredible common. So I would love to see Asian festivals! Also, I think Asian market is very competitive that Lego tries to do a new way? Quote
