Maybe using those new 7x11 frames would allow for more compact mechanisms and structures since you can just surround a load of parts with the frames.

So maybe motorisation will be possible.I wanna move the wishbones in 1L and add the chiron disk brakes first of all,

and probably add all wheel steering.

It is going to be extremely hard to motorize it, like on the limit of what is technically possible for lego and will require Clever Art techniques and minimalism (but reliability) for structures and mechanisms.

Oh also removable body as one assembly shouldnt be too hard.

I look forward to seeing what we can do with this excellant set.

whoops I totally forgot about the Chiron brakes adding studs (2 to total width), think I will omit them as I need to widen the track by 2 studs already to accommodate diff-locks. however with the new cvs having a four-stud male (opposed to the old styles 3)meaning it should be possible to fit in the original width with difflocks but need to order new cv to test this. The new frame is great for this purpose pity we only get 1 in the set 5 wheels on the plus side though.

High cap , forestry special and fire engine style remodels are the one I look forward to seeing.

Something simple, and I haven't had a detailed look at the parts list, how easy will it be to change the color?

Edit: except for the fenders, of course.

I made my 42110 pug-powered (drops the mic).

See my video review for details.

I saw that guy walking the background during the pug bit. He must have though "oh, it's just a guy walking his pug, walking his landrover?!"

BTW to make this set motorisable, it may not be realistic but the new planetary reduction hubs should be a direct swap, no?

I think you're gonna have issues with placing steering links on the planetary hubs, since the steering arm is offset on normal hubs, but cenetred on the planetary ones. I'd also replace the 24:8 gears next to diffs to 16:16 or even 12:20 and than maybe, just maybe you could motorize it via original gearbox.

How about dropping an inline 6 in there? I believe the Cummins b series goes in the landy pretty nicely.

ehm, there IS an inline 6 in there? Unless you mean a proper fake engine I6, but i doubt the space is there, you would need 14 studs between the front grill and whatever is at the back of the engine, and that is without connecting it to the drivetrain

With the new hubs and cvs this should have the torque to be good to motorise (remember this also has smaller wheels than what we usually use), I have done enough static rube-Goldberg style cars and skeletal style rc cars that I think its time I made a hybrid. So my design is rc with pneumatic diff-locks (2) and air suspension (via small air cylinders) will keep the detail/body of the original but will have a completely new frame to accommodate good rc. Aside from a one stud wider wheel space (widebody time) it should look like the original and hopefully have (scale) realistic enough size/weight/suspension values to handle more like a real car than my previous mocs.

Ahh my bad, I know nowt about land rovers, except a land rover half shaft is an essential workshop item for persuading ball joints apart.

I meant a fake cummins b series, It would be a cool engine to build as the camshafts are gear driven off a huge flywheel. My house has one in it. Its quite a long lump though.

wow bet the thing revs like a glacier with that flywheel, there is space to have moving camshafts and if you use gears diagonally you can achieve it the same way mentioned (2 gears with no chain/belt). Why stop at camshafts when you can also add a twin scroll supercharger like some industrial Cummins (made from screw gears if you can deal with the incorrect pitch on one side).

I need better reading glasss.  I thought I saw "Pimp My Lady".  Maybe it should say Landrover Defender in the subject title for clarity.

I thought the same thing!

Yeah it’s no ball of fire but it’s a phenomenal engine with loads of grunt. Mine is barely run in at 250000 miles and it will run on literally any derivative of oil/diesel.

You know what they say... You see what you want to see

I'm thinking of leaving the original indepepdnent suspension on mine and just adding portal hubs with bigger wheels.

And then why not? You are only limited by your imagination.

True! What got the ball rolling was my plan to V8 swap it, im a big stickler for engine stuff, and if i did the math correctly (assuming a scale of 1:10), a lego V8 would be the displacement equivalent of a ~4.3 litre V8, close enough to the current 4.0 V8 twinturbo Merc uses. Although the 3.9 Rover V8 from the old defender would be close enough as well.

Sadly the new wheel arches arent available in black (yet?) otherwise i'd seriously consider doing a completely murdered out project kahn like conversion, would fit the v8 well
