I'd put it on a table but not on a high shelf or with pets around. I've made several display stands and they work well, only they're kinda intrusive. I was thinking of buying a metal one like they used for the movies, one heavy & solid enough to hold the thing from further in the back. I don't think that could be done with Lego. Would be cool to hold it in a pose like on my signature. On one leg like that, it definitely can't hold alone that's for sure. The high-friction joints & the first knee joint are solid but they have their limit. Edited March 21, 2021 by anothergol Quote
anothergol Posted October 12, 2022 Author Posted October 12, 2022 Another year another version, with a little more non-Lego parts (like those very handy 1x1 bracket plates that I wish Lego had made). Since I'm now using wedge tiles, I decided to add that extra plate thickness in the back, it looked too thick when I was using wedge plates, but with tiles it's ok. Same thing with the chin's lip. I decided to put it in the pose I had used for a 3D render last yearn, but obviously it wouldn't have standed by itself on just one leg, so I added the rocky base, onto which it's pinned. (also changed the interior a lot again, but didn't take pictures) Quote

Falcrum Posted October 17, 2022 Posted October 17, 2022 It looks good, but I cannot forgive the use of custom parts. That's a definite, indisputable no no in my book. A holy commandment. Quote
La Chupacabra Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 @anothergol Already 4.5? Damn.. good looking. Do you plan 100% LEGO version? Quote

ToTallTyler Posted September 15, 2024 Posted September 15, 2024 I know this forum is a couple of years old, but I just stumbled across this moc online and I have absolutely fell in love with it ever since I saw it. I wanted to ask if there was any instructions available for the AT-ST or the stand? Quote

I didn't build it myself (yet), but as far as I know, the latest versions of the instructions are here: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-14608/gol/articulated-sw-at-st-chicken-walker-v40/#details Quote

There are 2 stands in my instructions, but the latest version doesn't have instructions, and thus the "rock" stand isn't there either. I've moved away from pure Lego, and I don't think that Rebrickable would welcome instructions that absolutely require non-Lego parts now (not counting that it's harder to build instructions when non-Lego parts aren't available in virtual). I've changed the design again btw, I still need to take new pictures. However the rock isn't using any non-Lego mould, only one or two recolors I believe, and it's compatible with all versions, so maybe I should build instructions for it alone. Quote

I just purchased the 4.0 instructions on rebrickable and can't wait to build this masterpiece. I would LOVE instructions for the rock stand if you're still thinking about making those instructions. Also, before I start sourcing parts do you plan to update the instructions to the updated design previously mentioned (4.5)? Quote

Hello, I've done major changes since then, so it's now a 5.0 for which I'll have to take pictures one day. But as you know I went full third-party parts for my AT-ST, so I won't be able to do instructions (but maybe pictures of a blown-up version) anymore. The base however is all proper Lego (or perhaps with a couple of easy-to-find recolors), so yes I should be making instructions for that, but I'm lazy :( A quick pic of the "new" one. The angle of the "jaw" changed from 2x3 to 2x2 slopes (more accurate) and a lot has changed inside. Edited March 19, 2025 by anothergol Quote
dmount Posted March 19, 2025 Posted March 19, 2025 @anothergol Sad to hear you're moving more away from LEGO pieces, though in your quest to make it as accurate as possible it's fun to see the progression. I'll most likely move forward with your 4.0 version then. 5.0 looks stunning so far! Would love the base instructions whenever you're motivated to put those together. Looking forward to your next update an photos! Quote
FlicBoyz Posted March 24 Posted March 24 The new version 5.0 of the head it’s awesome!!! All your AT ST versions have something special, I have been doing yours walkers, my favourite is the 3.0 version! Please, if you make the instructions for this new head it will be great! thanks for your work and progress all doses years! Quote
anothergol Posted March 25 Author Posted March 25 21 hours ago, FlicBoyz said: Please, if you make the instructions for this new head it will be great! well considering that I've had to remove the current instructions from Rebrickable because the rules have changed there, the next one won't be there, as it uses every possible (& not always easy or cheap to find) non-Lego part now 21 hours ago, FlicBoyz said: The new version 5.0 of the head it’s awesome!!! Thanks! It has changed a little since then, because I've recently found a new 2x5 wedge tile perfect for the back! (A7V tank from Quanguan, for those who need that. Lego has started making wedge tiles now and they're probably gonna cover 2x3 & 2x4, but 2x5 I doubt they ever will) Quote
anothergol Posted May 13 Author Posted May 13 A few months ago the project got disabled on Rebrickable, where it didn't fit the new rules. Since then I keep being asked where to find it. So I've just put it there for everyone: AT-ST Project Guide It's pretty much the same files, including versions 2, 3 & 4. It does NOT include 4.5 as there are no instructions made for it (only a few non-LEGO parts, but still hard to make a proper manual for it), and there will not be one for the future version either (way too many hard-to-find parts). Also thanks to all those who had bought it over the last years. Quote
Daiman Posted May 15 Posted May 15 @anothergolI for one support the use of parts from other vendors, at some point in a designers journey into building satisfying and demanding models, the parts and techniques just become a means to an end. I remember some years back a builder presenting a model of a phantom fighter jet of such beauty and realism you couldnt take your eyes off of it. They admitedly cut parts, glued together, painted and created their own stickers to which no one batted an eyelid. It even featured on front pages of popular websites. That person had trancended to a model maker who just happened to use Lego bricks in their builds. I'd imagine a lot of people feeling they will never be able to build like that for the restrictions they put on their life. That said I do agree with upholding said restrictions on sites dedicated to TLG products and catalogue of parts after all if we cant share to others those platforms become rather unstable. Did I mention what a great build... Quote

That said I do agree with upholding said restrictions on sites dedicated to TLG products and catalogue of parts after all if we cant share to others those platforms become rather unstable. Did I mention what a great build... Yeah, well to me (& I used to be a purist) it has always been about a form of art with a set of rules. It has never been about the LEGO brand to me, just the set of rules. So what I did is just move to another category with another set of rules, because there's better to do in that category (and thus also higher expectations, when judging). I also see it as an extension of digital (bricks) design, where you're never restricted on the colors & availability. In my new set of rules however, there's no room for a shoelace or a bit of plastic from a container just because they are LEGO-branded or have once appeared in a LEGO set, as to me those aren't "in-system". But to each his own. I've definitely cut a part for this AT-ST (the antenna, for the railing on the roof), but I'm still looking for better options because I still don't like the idea. Also, I grew tired of having to do hacks for stud inversion & stuff like that that other brands make dead easy. Everyone can do stud inversion now, it's not a clever hack anymore, it's just wasted time (& space) IMHO, I've just moved on. As for the changes on Rebrickable, I don't know for sure the motivations behind it. On one hand, it's true that pretty much everything you put on Rebrickable, ends up on Ali. Well, all of my stuff did (and I never cared), and I assume it's the same for everyone. So it's a form of protection for its users I guess. But if it goes as far as having an official swearlist that censors *mentionning* pretty much any non-LEGO brands *in discussions* or even private messages, that makes me think that the intentions are different. I believe that the main motivation is to make it friendly to the LEGO brand, in order to be later acquired (because for the LEGO company, having full control over sites like this, is probably worth a lot more than their true value). And that I can't agree with. Another hint is that I can't spot "Sluban" in the list of banned brands, whereas all the other chinese ones are - which makes me think that this list might be coming from LEGO itself, as LEGO has already made deals with Sluban in (/out of) court (I learnt the hard way that Sluban sets are never seized by customs like most other brands are, and it was confirm by the/a law firm that works with LEGO). So that's suspicious to me. Edited May 15 by anothergol Quote
