There's a good chance that with the popularity of The Lego Movie, finally getting Warner Bros. a big animated hit that appeals to children and adults, you will see Warner Bros. properties more involved in the sequel. Just a hunch. Add to this, they'll want to get as much mileage out of their billion dollar LOTR/Hobbit properties as possible now that the trilogy is complete.

At this point, I'll buy anything from Lego LOTR/The Hobbit. In a couple of years these sets will skyrocket in value. Though I don't care, I won't sell them. Just glad I got them when I had the chance. It's really about the minifigs. You can build/modify the sets in the range as you like, which is what I intend to do. Just glad we got what we got.

Five set's Lego should've made for Indiana Jones
mrfootball replied to legomtron's topic in LEGO Licensed
Good thread, I would love to see the Hatay tank w/Indy on a horse....the German U-boat (and Uboat pen), as well as the Austrian castle from Crusade. -
Fyi, Barrel Escape is marked down to $25 right now at TRU.

Buy them now...you'll wish you did later.

Why so much complaining? Lego went through great lengths to promote the LOTR line with a great video game, a very nice microsite with video vignettes, posters, special edition figures, etc. A lot of work for a movie that came out over 10 years ago. I love all of the stuff they've released thus far. My kids love it too. It just so happens that there is a current trilogy of (Hobbit) movies that they're focusing on now...moreso...a blockbuster of their own making (The LEGO movie) that has far surpassed even their own expectations. Demand for The LEGO movie merch is HUGE right now. Stores around me are wiped out...LEGO makes more money off those items than they do licensed items...so you can't fault Lego for wanting to strike while the iron's hot, maximizing profits and fill those shelves with Lego Movie sets. The fact that the LOTR/Hobbit items are becoming scarce in stores should tell you that they've sold fairly well...Can't wait for the new Hobbit sets in October and I'm holding out hope that LoTR will come back in 2015.

Was going to try and hold out for the Extended Edition, however now I'll be sure to pick this up first. I wonder if this will be an exclusive like the one with the special Bilbo minifig that came with The Hobbit Blu-Ray which Target offered in the US?

I can see a scenario where the first wave LOTR sets and many early hobbit sets will become scarce and valuable with demand far outweighing supply....then new sets will arrive next year and the whole line will be reinvigorated.

Fyi, for anyone who still needs it...Lego 9471 Urukhai Army on sale right now at Amazon for $25.

What are the odds of a 10179 rerelease or a new Falcon UCS?
mrfootball replied to merman's topic in LEGO Star Wars
They'll never re-release it as is...they may create a similar set with different features. I imagine they'll look closely at sales of the new X-wing to see if they want to remake further UCS models. With that said, it works to Lego's favor to have an immortal, chase set like the 10179 out there that create in people's minds the impression that whatever set they're buying could be the next big one. -
"Where Eagles Dare" is one of my all-time favorite WWII themed movies and I'm also a big fan of the Wolfenstein franchise...Thanks for sharing your awesome MOC!!! Love it!

LEGO Star Wars 2012 Pictures and Rumors
mrfootball replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Lego has said they will be introducing a big new set at Brick Fiesta in Houston July 7th & 8th. I think it'll be the B-Wing. -
I recognize that. It's my hometown, Houston, Texas...somewhere near buffalo bayou and Memorial Park.

[UCS MOC] Escape from Docking Bay 327
mrfootball replied to spacepilot3000's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Great display btw. Are those IKEA shelves and curio cabinets? I was in IKEA the other day and noticed some that looked like that and thought they would be great for displaying Lego. Great setup, thanks for sharing pics of your outstanding Lego room. I hope to setup something along those lines. -
I've been looking to buy a UCS Star Destroyer and I like the 'bley' version. Would you take $400 (US)?

Lego Not Afraid of Mexican Drug War
mrfootball replied to mrfootball's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Sounded like a globalist propaganda piece to me. -
Article about Lego's new factory in Monterrey, Mexico...interesting quote: According to company estimates, production costs are about 20 per cent less than elsewhere. Meanwhile, the Mexican plant boasts just 43 defective pieces per million compared with 114 in the case of its Hungarian plant, and 350 in Denmark. http://blogs.ft.com/beyond-brics/2011/07/29/lego-is-not-afraid-of-mexicos-drug-violence/#axzz1Teg0zHjg

One of the finest MOC's I've ever seen. Incredible work!

Are these posters available in the USA?
-
Thanks for the review. I don't have a system scale Falcon that's 'swooshable' and haven't found a block of time yet to open up and build my UCS Falcon. I'll probably get this for my son and keep the UCS for me.

Seems like what this set lacks in it's overall execution as a true "Hoth" set is made up for by the parts assortment, minifigs and the potential for modifying yourselves (which is one of the cool things about Lego, right?). I have all of the other Hoth-related sets and will probably modify this along with the 7666 set to create the Hoth I want (complete with a Wampa rampaging through the tunnels). I'm picking this one up tomorrow. PS - Still want to see a Power Generator and ION Cannon.
