Grave digger would be sweet, but I don't think I have enough green beams to do the tubular frame. Have you seen the 1/4 scale (non-lego) grave digger being built on youtube? It's awesome!

The only one of mine that I have pictures of is this one; It features 4 wheel drive, live axles, suspention, powered by 2 ungeared 9v motors, custom 5f+r transmission (the one from the 8448 is just too weak, can't take any power!) and steering from the steering wheel. This was built like 10 years ago when the power puller first came out. I was happy with it then, it was very strong, the only weak part being the rods connecting the axles to the chassis, and the gearbox was bulletproof! But looking at it now, i'de like to build a far better one with a more tubular steel looking frame, a more american looking body, longer travel, more authentic looking suspension and a real fast top speed. Heck now that i'm board with my jeep hurricane MOC (works great, but the thought of doing the bodywork just doesn't exite me) I might start on it now. BTW if anyone is interested I might post some pics of the hurricanes working chassis.

Ah yes, the 8258 has alot of weight and feels solid, when "driving" it around the floor it feels like it could smash though any other technic set. This gave it a very authentic big heavy truck feel (would love to see a video of it smashing through an 8043 ) Weirdly I had the same feeling with the 8460, even more so than the 8421 even tho the 8460 is smaller and lighter. I guess it's mass was just more solid. 8880 can feel quite good in the corners I think, but it's suspention was just too hard. I guess this is authentic of supercars but it was still too much. 8448 was missing HOG steering, but i'de rather have a working steering wheel than HOG. 8880 and the Barcode truck (can't remember it's number) had both HOG and a working steering wheel, best of both worlds. Glad you like the topic Now it's probably well known that I don't like 8043, and i'm probably in the minority with that, but I think we can all agree that 8043, 8851 (as great as it is) and the 856 do not handle well in the corners

Sorry, but there are no top and bottom holes. In this picture you can see a bulge on the top. http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=techstr02 There is another bulge on the bottom. These bulges clip into the other piece holding it in place.

So, what technic set do you feel "handles" the best? What I mean is, take the 8865 test car for example. To me this is the best handling set ever. It has ackerman steering geometry and perfect suspention that is not too hard (like 8880) and not too soft (like 8466). Having the tyres visably bounce up and down over rough terrain and having the car roll slightly in the corners was always pleasing. Strange question perhaps, just curious as to what your thoughts are.

They do sound really cool. I connected a v8 to two old style, ungeared 9v motors with a 3:1 upgearing. That went soooooo fast! I always like to spin the engines fast in MOCs because it's more realisic, however in my latest jeep hurricane MOC (just got the bodywork to finish), so much mechanical power is required to turn it on the spot that there isn't much left to power the two v8s at a very high speed, so they run a little slower than my usual.

I think it's because on a standard gear, the worm gear only touches on a sharp edge of the tooth because the teeth are straight but on a worm they are at an angle. However the 24t crown gear has rounded edges, making for a nicer contact area.

I do find that I have not quite enough 24t gears at times in the newer dark bley colour. Quite what TLG should do about that i'm not sure

From memory and very unscientific testing, the maximum steering angles obtained seemed to be about the same, which I agree is pretty limited. However one big advantage with the new CV joints is that there is hardly any friction at all when being driven at it's maximum angle. I just wish TLG would modify the old hub part to get rid of all that unwanted friction between the hub and male CV joint.

I don't think Snipe has been vauge at all, he can't help it if Dluders keeps anwsering questions nobody asked . Only joking, I know Dluders tries to help the community every chance he gets for which we should all be very grateful . Anywho, from what I can tell it won't work. I haven't tried it for real, but the UJ is slightly bigger than the hole as it is in ML cad which is usually pretty accurate with these things. Secondly even if it did fit, in order for the centre of the joint to properly line up with the steering axis, the UJ is prevented from bending by the sides of the hole. Hope this helps.

Just use a tiny bit of skill moving the valve to lower the boom at a graceful speed. Works for me anyway

I got this set only for the new parts. The most interesting feature was the lifting suspension which as you say, isn't really that interesting.

That's cool. As I said before tho if the micro motor is too slow for the claw you may be better off using a PF M-motor. Happy building!

I prefere the 6 hole hubs as it kinda looks more like wheel nuts, kinda. I just think they look less weird anyway.

I love how the steering works in this. It not only points all the wheels in the right direction, but it also reverses the direction the wheels are turning on one side, enableing it to rotate on the spot like a tank. Would love to see it moving on the ground.

The most expensive sale I heard of was a MISB 852 helicopter being sold for £3000. Looking at the prices of sets on bricklink such as the 8868, 8880, 8480, 8865, 8856 and 8862 (one currently for sale at $1995) i'm glad i've got near MISB copies of all those sets.

Yup, so did mine. One cool feature that hasn't been mentioned is the ability to run the engines whilst having the model stationary just by running the motor(s) in reverse. I found that cool because it was like the engines were idleing like they do before they begin to pull.
