  1. Ditto, same set, same age, same day, 1994.
  2. If his gearbox is better (more complex shifter) then why doesn't he sell that one instead for more money?
  3. Well then hats off to you sir!
  4. Probably didn't have enough pieces left over from the A-model. Must be difficult to build a model using most of the parts, and only the parts from an existing design. I wonder if grohl has done one of his amazing set rebuilds using above 80% of the parts.
  5. Wow, that's sweeeeeet! I like how you also managed to squash the original mechanisms to fit under the smaller bed. I don't thing you need editing software tho, maybe just a cheapo tripod, or even just a box! But the lighting is much better now
  6. That's well impressive, well done!
  7. Ah I see. You mean the new dark grey female CV part? If so how do you mount the unimog part, just on the axle?
  8. Can these be used with the CV joint then? If so, what is the friction like? How is it implemented?
  9. Well that was in depth, I almost didn't make it to the end!
  10. Just search though my posts and you'll see where I stand on this debate, but for a brief (and as unbiased as I can be) summary, Pneumatics are more powerful 90% of the time in real world applications. The reason for this is beacuse most of the power from the motor is lost in the drive train to an LA, leaving not much left for the LA itself. The need for drive trains also make it sometimes needlessly difficult to place where you want them (unless yopu connect a motor dirctly to them, which is just too easy and boring!). Pneumatics are also far more life like than LAs and require skill to operate properly which is again, more life like than LAs that have a more kiddies toy like feel. Pneumatics also look and sound better with their hoses and the cool pffft sounds they make. However LAs do have some good points. Once you put an LA into a postion it cannot easily be moved unless you turn the input shaft and also produce very precise movements. Personally I have never found these plus points to make them worth chosing over pneumatics which can also be operated very precisely with a bit of skill. If however I choose to make a CNC machine I will probably use LAs. Other than that, I hate LAs in any situation where they are used to represent hydraulics.
  11. I have tried searching for these but no luck. I really need the one from 8880. If I find one for 8868 in my search for the one from 8880 i'll let you know.
  12. I remember reading an interview with the designer of the space shuttle (can't remember his name) in the technic club magazine from 1996 (still searching for scans/copies). I don't remember much, just that there were a silly amount of prototypes built and that the design process for it took about two years I think. I also remember him saying that he had worked on a 5 speed gear box. So I guess he was part of a team already working on the 8448 3 years before it's release. They must have been given more time to design the sets back then.
  13. And i'm starting to think you're my best friend
  14. I'm fairly confident that we'll see pneumatics again pretty soon if not in 2012. They're just too awesome
  15. Well, with the same pressure acting on the same surface area, longer cylinders should not be any easier to compress or bounce than the regular ones. Plus, with the extra leverage advantage afforded by a longer stroke, heavy crane and excavator booms would be less bouncy, able to lift more weight and be even more controllable coming down. Also bear in mind that you would not have to use the full length of the cylinder meaning you could still use them for smaller applications. These would be ideal in addition to the ones we already have so that we have a choice of small, standard and XL cylinders.
  16. Yup, get both If ou absolutely have to get only one, get the 8110. If you can get one now then one later, get the 8258 first cos it won't be around much longer, then get 8110. I do not own 8110 yet (waiting till christmas, it's tradition) but from what I have read, 8110 does not steer that well as standard, but it's easy to improve and there are many places here in this forum that show you how. So, as they come, I would GUESS that 8258 is better to drive around the floor. But with simple modifications, 8110 should be better with it's awesome suspention setup, higher ground clearence and larger wheels, but someone correct me if i'm wrong EDIT: BTW you may like to know that 8258 comes with one of the newer type of diff (only one of the rear axles are connected to the engine), whereas 8110 comes with two of the newer style diff (one in each axle) and one of the older style diff (one in the centre).
  17. I think without the slots it would be too hard to assemble in the first place. You will note that the rear face of the clip has a completely flat edge, unlike a connector peg which has a rounded edge enableing them to be removed.
  18. Maybe he's too busy inward singing!
  19. I would say longer, a bit longer than LA's also. Right now they have a stroke of only 3 studs, which is tiny when you think about it. Speaking of the pneumatic ports, I don't know how easy this would be to mold, but it would be a nice added touch if the top port was angled 90 degrees to point down the length of the cylinder. These designs made by Barman on brickshelf are pretty much perfect: I'll do no such thing as give up, nevaaaaaaa! And sorry guys if i'm going off topic again
  20. Well if they make a set with longer pneumatics I wonder if it'll have AP on it
  21. Are you saying there were no complex designs before PF?
