  1. Haha I never forget that it's for kids, the instructions of 10 to 20 years ago was hardley only 4 pictures, the test car was 24 steps and the 8868 was 36 steps and easy enough for me to build when I was below the target age. But Blakbirds point of broadening the demographic is a good point. It could also be that the change to studless had something to do with it. Anywho, I think we're too far off topic now . So where's the pics of the same mechanisms and builds as previous years only in the shapes of different vehicles?!
  2. Attention spans have changed I think, and maybe they got complaints from older sets being too hard to build but yeah, it's very boring now, each page of the instructions looks very much like the last with hardly any noticeable progress, and no brain power required. It was cool to turn the page and on one page in the first glimps you would see a big leap forward in progress and it made you wanna get there. Thinking of it that way, maybe having bigger steps where the progress is more noticeable would actually be beneficial to those with smaller attentions spans?
  3. Oh right, in that case I guess you could use lego airtanks for a tank.
  4. Wouldn't having a motor pump submerged in the tank be simpler?
  5. Not really noticed it in an official set to use ungeared motors, the one time I do remember seeing some white dust in an official set was on the the two 24t gears on the unimog which uses a geared motor. To be fair tho I never kept my models built for that long.
  6. No they don't, however it's a 1:1 ratio, so just one pump of the....um...pump...will give you the full extention of the cylinder.
  7. That's the idea! I have tested motor pumps (the older, shorter version) and when they are submerged they seem to pump water just as effectively as pumping air and I wasn't able to damage one by doing so.
  8. Well why didn't I think of that!  But yeah that's the best way, you get ungeared motors that are easily converted to geared motors, so everyone is happy and you get more options as well as a gear unit that can be used anywhere and stacked many times if you like.
  9. All you really need to do to have a closed circuit is have the valves either submerged or directly above the tank so that the fluid goes back into the tank, and have the pump submerged in the tank, with drive axles going down to the pump and valves.
  10. Well guys, in order to not offend anyone this time i'm currently practicing how to sound joyful and happy when the first pictures start appearing. "YEY, yet more un lifelike gearboxes and LAs, that's exciting isn't it!" "Oh look, is that a knob wheel right next to the function? " "Hooray, look at all that colour vomit! I've always said everything needs to look like a sick pizza to counter the fact that 1 part per step maybe 1 part too many for the target demographic!" Yeah, i'm working on it, pwomise
  11. Not only the outriggers, but every other cylinder, especially the one that telescopes the boom. However I don't think we can expect them to make them as a one off to see how much appeal they have. To make the molds for any new part is a big investment and they have to be sure that it will pay off before they make any new molds. I think part of the problem is that to build a case for any one isolated and complex (expensive) new part that ends with "will make you sell more sets" is difficult. For instance the introduction of LAs was not an isolated thing, it was introduced as part of a much bigger shift in technics overall direction which involved power functions and remote controlled play and so on. I would argue that that change in direction, whilst increasing play value in one way has decreased play value in other ways, reduced authenticity, reduced learning about how real machines work and also reduced a certain coolness of owning a smaller version of the real thing as opposed to just another toy replica. So I would like to see a new change in direction towards technics core values of authenticity, challenging building and so on and to do that, new parts are needed such as gearbox gears of various sizes and so on, as well as an overhaul of the pneumatic elements so that they lessen whatever weaknesses the current pneumatic system has, such as a perceived lack of control and lack of ease of remote controllability. Introducing longer cylinders is a big part of that as well as impoved pneumatic valves, or even a valve with an inbuilt, proportional (7 step) servo motor with finely adjustable limit stops but that's probably wishful thinking .
  12. I think he means these: The files are in SLT format and the profile of the teeth match those of Lego gears pretty closely but i'll need to check the dimentions. Some of them are off and I should also make the center hole slightly undersize so you can drill them to 4.8mm exactly. I also need to model a 10 tooth and a 14 tooth standard gear.
  13. Yes you can use those rare and expensive brackets but it's ugly and unrealistic. Molds wear out over time, so when they have to make new ones for pneumatics, they might as well make them how we want them right?
  14. Such a valve would help alot. I think making the pneumatics longer would help alot as well because of the leverage advantage you would gain.
  15. I don't think they are very low Yeah TLG, so what you gonna do about it, HUH?! They ain't that expensive compared to many other parts such as LAs (which usually require many more parts to work than pneumatics) and servo's which so far has only appeared in one and a half sets! If they were to make pneumatics a more suitable size they would become more useful, and so more used. I think I have done that, tho it's kinda spread out all over Eurobricks Pneumatics are easier to motorize. To motorize a pneumatic at the end of an excavator boom would have been easier and better than a long line of axles and universal joints. If you are talking about easier to make them remore controlled, that's a different thing however, this too is not a problem as a valve can have it's movement mechanicly limited in either direction, meaning all that is needed is a short motorised side to side movement for operational RC pneumatics, of course better valves would make it even better. Besides, just because they have gone in one direction (endless gearboxes and LAs) doesn't mean they are stuck going down that road, in fact they would do better to change things up a bit and end this stagnation IMHO.
  16. It has been talked about before, but no need to apologize, keep telling TLG we want these guys! http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=62225&hl=+longer%20+pneumatic#entry1116926
  17. The 2838 motor has more power than the barcode truck motor and almost as much as the pf-M motor when geared down right. That and the buggy motor are my favorite motors.
  18. Of course, you can always go completely overboard with the epicness, so epic that it makes whatever it is you are filming totally epic, like so: Tip: Slow motion helps alot. Wonder if that's why there is so much slo-mo in Michael Bay movies
  19. You could always use some of mine, but it's more like standard rock music, not sure it would really fit well but it's a shameless plug anyway! https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/a-collection-of-experiences/id694935023
  20. The only times i've had some wear on an axle is when i've geared up an ungeared motor. True.
  21. Yeah, the epic scores don't really fit too well, or heavy metal which there seems to be alot of. I know what they were going for, but it doesn't work most of the time. It's not a MOC but this is I think is the most well done technic video with perfect music that is just epic enough in it's own way. Is that cheating Yes yes yes, that music is perfect.
  22. Well that hasn't stopped them in the past, but then technic has a new moderator ie Blakbird, so whatever he decides we should respect that. But i'm still on the fence as to if the so called "leaks" are intentional or if TLG are really that concerned.
  23. Haha, i'll have to ask the guy who wrote and sung it but you could be right
  24. I helped to produce the album by the good horizon called a collection of experiences so, a bit of shameless plugging here http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00EVMI19K/ref=dm_sp_alb?ie=UTF8&qid=1378064177&sr=8-3
