Whoa, a lot of neat solutions in there! Very well done! Love these mechanical solutions, especially in these days when any school kid can program an PLC. -
Trophy Truck - MOC

I'm not normally into cars but this I like! Clean execution too, looking forward to the video! -
Having another look, how did you attach the bunny head to the minifig torso?

On PDF-page 13 and 14 there's an preview of that article here: http://www.twomorrows.com/media/BrickJournal17Preview.pdf

Great work! Love it, very Mad Max! The mirrors are a nice touch. What is most stunning is that a fleshie is finally looking good!

I saw this on a Swedish LEGO-blog previously today and instantly fell in love with it, very-very well done! Good luck in the contest, I don't know what other MOCs are in there but I still think you should win. PS: It also reminds of this song: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_Pigs

Lego 8053 tyres
Tobbe Arnesson replied to martin1965's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Cool, did not know of that function before. Does not seem to list the Unimog 8110-tyres though. -
I also just Googled that crane (third hit when searching for lego crane monorail). Looks like all the weight is on the axles with the wheels: This would cause a lot of friction. Using just the rims w/o rubber and a flat surface under and over like T.J.'s harbour crane is superior. What about two rings of monorail turned to face each other and with rims as ball bearings in between? I still think it would be best to power the actual turning with a motor and turntable in the middle, but you could also experiment with motorizing a few of the "bearing wheels".
-
If you use the Monorail bogey it can roll around the track, and then you motorize a regular turntable in the middle. I.e. the weight is on the bogey and the turn is via the turntable. Another "ancient" solution for big bearings is to use two x784 Hailfire droid wheels stacked on top of each other and place some loose 3482 Wheel with Split Axle hole as bearing balls in between. Sadly x784 is rare and expensive, I regret not getting a few when the set was out.

I found it many moons ago, when the MOC was new. Nothing needs to keep it in shape, you only get downward pressure on the rims and the counteracting upward pressure. If the rims DO pop off you can attach them with something like 87083 Technic, Axle 4 with Stop or 6587 Technic, Axle 3 with Stud instead.

I had the same problem where one of the IR-receivers ports was not working. I detached the receivers from the Excavator and all was fine. Turned out that it would not work as long as the 32000 Black Technic, Brick 1 x 2 with Holes was attached on top of the cable (attached in step 17, page 60 in the first manual). As a work around I just removed the Brick 1 x 2 with Holes and figured that something was broken inside the IR-receiver (I tried swapping the motor cables around and the problem stayed with the same port on one of the IR-receivers). Then I forgot about it and has not researched it further. So try removing the bricks on top of the cables and see if it works after that. If so you might want to do some further testing to see if it's really the receiver that's broken. If it's broken you can request a replacement here, you might need to send the broken one back: http://us.service.lego.com/en-US/replacementparts/default.aspx While you wait you can do as I did and simply remove the brick 1 x 2. With the blue being the culprit you need to swap the receivers so it instead becomes the green.

Crane truck

Nice, well done! Gonna try that technique for putting the pneumatic pistons back to back, looks clean! -
I've heard from a pretty reliable source that AC is done, i.e. no more. Guess it did not sell that well to the kids, it sold well to me though. I'm gonna pick up a few select extras and then hope for clearance sales.

Turntable difference
Tobbe Arnesson replied to barti673's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That said it can be fitting with a warning: Taking the new mini turntable apart might damage the bricks (at least that's what happened to me when I just pulled them apart). 99010 Technic Turntable Small Base 99009 Technic Turntable Small Top
