Quite hard to choose but I still would go with the Beach House non only because it's that cheaper but also it has a sleeker design and is more compact.
-
Yeah, it is way shorter. Maybe, the coach is 15-meter long, but if so it would have had 6 wheels.
-
How come did you count 43 studs for the tram's length? The middle car is 8 stud long, the side cars are 12-stud longs. The gaps in between, say, are 2 studs. So, we get 32 studs. Now we add a bit from the front and from the back, +3 and +3, ok 42 is possible. Now, the coach. I see 5 (!) windows 4x4, which makes 20 studs. Then after the window line on the back we see 3 studs, right? Let's proceed to the front where we find a 4-stud door and 2 more studs for the windscreen construction. It totlas then 29 studs. Not bad, a bit shorter than a baseplate!
-
To me, the size of the wheels for the bus is ok, but for the car is terribly huge.
-
Very nice and realistic. Hehe, we cal it garbage truck in Russia.
-
I'm getting more and more sure that the tram is just a bit longer than a coach. And what we can see on the box? The tram looks like 2 times as much longer as the coach.

Well, what can I say out here - I'm a fan of LEGO train theme, but this set is I'd even say awful. LEGO is getting more and more greedy. They set contains NOTHING. But costs quite much. For what? A mini digger, 4 straight rails and several other pieces? No road plate, no small building for watcher. NOTHING. The worst crossing through LEGO history. The present set is VERY costly in my opinion because for such a price we get so little.
-
Sure, Metroliner, But I'm also much fascinated by yeallow and black Cargo Railway # 4558, probably it is even better than Metrorail, it is very futuristic and has always made me think of Japan. As for cargo trains my 4565 is definitely the best. The Emerald Night doesn't appeal much to me, I like it but I wouldn't say it is on top of my list.
-
I am almost 100 % sure there would be no train sets in 2011. We'd better expect them by 2014, I guess.
-
The truck is awesome, maybe LEGO designers should take this into account to change a bit the mainstream design of the present trucks. I really like the way you've reproduced the front part of the truck.

First of all, I'd like to emphasize the fantastic name of the citym the thread's author told us - "FLOORVILLE". Absolutely stunning! I'm continuing to by Creator houses to my city as well as they really fit there. I've got 2 Beach houses and 3 Family houses so far. I'm a bit disappointed that I didn't manage to purchase the Villa, red and white house and some others before. And thanks everybody for your pics. Well, actually, I've decided to give a more thought-out answer as the subject is worth elaborating. Yes, I'd say so. There are several reasons for this. First of all, nearly all of them are beautiful and nice. They are different. They contain lots of pieces and much detail. Moreover, the CITY series lacks residential buildings very much - if not to say doesn't have any... except coming 8403. Sure, the first goal is to put incorporate them into my layout. But as I've got several similar sets (6754), I'll probably use some of them for my MOCs. The strong point to CREATOR sets is that they are way cheaper and offer much more pieces in comparison with CITY sets. Like 6754, for instance, contains a bit less then 1000 pieces - 976, which is more than any other CITY set including the Police station (7744) or the Garage (7642). And 6754 is much cheaper. Sorry, I didn't understand the question. To me, the don't look ill-timed or weird. You just go out and look around. The buildings are TOO different in terms of size, really. I don't care how much floors they have, but let's say they imitate bigger structures and from this point of view they are well incorporated. Three cathegories of LEGO buildings to me, and in my opinion, they all can co-exist successfully. Definitely, for minifigs. Here in Russia we see some residential buildings (usually old, or new, outside cities made by those who live in them) that can have floors up to 5 - 6 meters high. No standards for the size, so, no standards for LEGO buildings!

The bkue and white female minifig looks quite strange with this typically male man. Probably, it is a man like Adrian Paul? :) P.S. The first-half-of-the-year special edition is 7206, isn't it? Or is it 7213?
-
I'm pretty sure in 2011 they will renew the Polices series. Maybe some Hospital sets will come along. Thank you very much for such an excellent photo.
-
Totally agree. And it is not necessary that they are huge modilar buildings...
-
This one is definitely a coacj or at least an inter-city bus, but not a city one. I like it. What I like most is the orange street-sweeper truck, so nicely worked out that it looks just real. However, I was expecting something more of the set, first of all hoping it would contain several baseplates 32x32 with some structures. The tram is OK, it's the first one and it's a success. P.S. I remember someone saying here the set would contain "LOTS of minifigs". I actually can see only 6 but for CITY series this is a huge amount. :(
-
Probably he meant that it appeared at the Brickset for the first time. But it's strange that there's a photo of the box there rather that that of the set.
-
The review is just superb. Yeah, the 90s was the best time for Lego town / trains... Now it's only marketing that counts - and every time a new series of trains is released we see a standard kit of sets: straight rails, curved rails, shunts, passenger train, cargo train, station. That's all. In the past, there used to be a wide variety of sets where we could choose whatever we want and combine them how we wanted. Thanks for the review, I really enjoyed it. And I really liked the way you delivered the ideas.
-
Even if it is so, to me, doesn't matter, actually. The rails could be bought as an addition. Why are you sure that the elevated train is 7938? To me, I doesn't seem very much alike. And, accroding to your logic, there is a bus from 7641, a bike from 8401 and 2 taxis from 7936, right? I'd rather see a tram AND an elevated train, be it 4-stud wide, no matter. Sure, along with a bus, bikes, cars etc. I've already commented on it above. Actually, this is not so important, because everything is focused on MEANS OF TRANSPORT. I'm pretty sure there will be bus stops and train stations, yet simple. If I am right, 7848 will be just the same as 3221.
-
Totally agree. I hope Lego will break this a bit stupid rule of providing 5 minifigs at most. I hope it would be yellow as it was in # 6420 that I have. Or black is was common for the 90s! It sounds as if the cars with doors and roof haven't been for a long time. :) I hope it will be a sedan. Here I do really hope it will be of the same livery but will be ARTICULATED. Maybe it will be a garbage truck or a delivery truck for a small Restaurant aside? I don't think it can't be red. Why not? A tram is not a train especially if we talk about a PCC and not an articulated tram. Probably it would be able to run on rail and I agree the rails won't be included for the reason of pricing... However, who said rails shouls be definitely put on plates like 16x32 or 32x32? They may be situated on smaller plates just aside. I am prettu sure there would be some of this stuff. The point of not telling about that is that the set is transport-oriented ;) There should be since this is a public transportation CENTER but not a set of "tram+bus+bike+car+truck" ;) Yeah, right you are!

lightningtiger, thanks for appreciating.

In Russia, 10184 for example was available everywhere. I justed wanted to show that for a CITY set this is too big. Normally, the number of pieces doesn't exceed 1000 and I've already said about minifigs. Here, as I can understand, there well be smth in the neighbourhoof of 2000 pieces.

All the mechanisms are just sham. The only thing that works is the drum that spins when the harvester is moving. The top opens, you can put bales of hay there but they will immediately drop out of the bottom. Посмотреть на Яндекс.Фотках Посмотреть на Яндекс.Фотках Resume. The set is controversial and in total my attitude to it is rather negative. If I am asked why I’ve bought it, I’ll answer that I’ve been making my City layout for more than 15 years and trying to get everything related to Town or City. I don’t like many sets but I get them. Moreover, this set was purchased in May as it was promo and cost only 1399 roubles. I think MISP is too high for such a functionality and playability (from the children’s point of view) and its sheer size (form the point of view of an adult collector or a layout builder). Even the Bulldozer didn’t seem that big as this Harvester. It would have been much better if it had been 6-stud wide, on standard wheels or at least on the wheels of Front-End Loader (7630) or Dump Truck (7631). Here we see huge wheels typical of Technic sets that are higher that a minifig, the hull is 10-stud wide (!), the lenght with no drum counted is 27 studs. The roof of the cab is a bit lower that the second floor of the Fire Station building. Surely, the harvesters should be that high but not that wide. However, probably those who like MOCs may like this set. Advantages: - appearance, general design, livery; - design of the threshing drum; - design of the cab that can open differently.. - minifig; Disadvantages: - 1 minifig for such a huge set. - price; - sheer size of the harvester (width, wheels etc.); - A lot of large pieces; - zero functionality for such a large model. In general, I wouldn’t recommend you this set unless you are a serious collector of CITY sets or you liked some aspects of this set or its elements.

Review: № 7636 Combine harvester. Year: early 2009 MISP 1699 roubles (when released). Pieces (officially): 360. The set generates some interest as part of a new Farm subtheme that has been neglected for quite a lot of years. Even in the 90s this theme didn’t gain much attention. The famous Paradisa series represented actually resort areas, beaches, villas etc. but didn’t have much in common with a normal rural life. In 2009 LEGO decided to please its fans by introducing a number of sets related to rural life, highlighting representation of agriculture. 4 new sets were released in the CITY series: 7634 – Tractor; 7635 – 4 WD with horse trailer; 7636 – Combine harvester; 7637 – Farm. The only set that doesn’t deal with agriculture is № 7635. Actually different version of tractors have been produced by LEGO, but the harvester has come out for the first time. As it is well known, many models in the CITY series are not well scaled, very often too large for the whole system yet much more realistic. The combine harvester was not an exception, you’ll see it well. The box is medium sized just like the same as that of the Bulldozer 7685. The price of the set, however, is way higher even if we consider that the number of pieces in both sets is nearly the same: 352 for the Bulldozer and 360 for the Harvester (in fact I counted 356 and 373, respectively). The box can be opened in a way usually small boxes are opened when you have to press two segments on the back but I don’t practice that method as it damages the box. Посмотреть на Яндекс.Фотках Посмотреть на Яндекс.Фотках The set contains the total of 7 bags (the second has 2 inner small bags). The large tyres and long axes of the threshing drum are not packed, the axes being bound with rubber rings. There is also a sheet of stickers. Посмотреть на Яндекс.Фотках Посмотреть на Яндекс.Фотках Посмотреть на Яндекс.Фотках Посмотреть на Яндекс.Фотках The set has only one (!) minifigure. I have to say that in the recent times we very often see a large CITY set of a huge vehicle and only 1 or 2 minifigs. This standard doesn’t appeal for me much. However, the minifig in this set is nicely made, you can’t find something similar. In fact, the Farm subtheme, as well as the sets of the Late 2009, are much more interesting in terms of minifigs, they are various. Посмотреть на Яндекс.Фотках Посмотреть на Яндекс.Фотках As it has been already said, I counted 373 pieces in the set. You can find lots of Technic elements. Two many slopes and bricks, which I didn’t like. Neither did I like the fact that some of the green 4х2 bricks have some rough edges. Moreover, the green colour is not always the same: Посмотреть на Яндекс.Фотках Slopes: Посмотреть на Яндекс.Фотках The first bag contains elements and bricks to build the hull. The cab and upper part of the hull are made from the elements in the second bag. The third one is dedicated to the threshing drum. Some pieces of the drum: Посмотреть на Яндекс.Фотках The design of the harvester is at the same time simple and complex. A great deal of large bricks doesn’t make it that fascinating, though some smaller ones manage to smooth it out in a certain way. By the way, the harvester doesn’t have the bottom. Some pictures of the assemblage: Посмотреть на Яндекс.Фотках Посмотреть на Яндекс.Фотках On the second image you can see that there are elements used as windscreen of cranes and street sweepers. The harvester has a trailer hitch assembled in the following way: Посмотреть на Яндекс.Фотках The wheels are too huge. How to combine this vehicle with the vehicles of the 90s, I don’t know. Very often a wheel of the harvester is bigger that a car: Посмотреть на Яндекс.Фотках Half assembled, the harvester boggles the mind by its size. In the background there are 2 tow-trucks, a pickup, a police car 7236 and a coast guard 4WD 7737. It is obvious that even a heavy tow truck from the Garage is much smaller than the harvester: Посмотреть на Яндекс.Фотках The cab is nicely worked out. It can open frontward and sideways: the windscreen can be drawn as well as the sides. Some pictures: Посмотреть на Яндекс.Фотках Посмотреть на Яндекс.Фотках Посмотреть на Яндекс.Фотках Посмотреть на Яндекс.Фотках Посмотреть на Яндекс.Фотках Now, let’s proceed to the threshing drum. I completely agree that it should be long and large, but not the harvester itself. The drum is 36-stud wide, which is a bit smaller that the length of the Fire station (7945) buildings, or 70 % of the Police Headquarters (7744) length. Посмотреть на Яндекс.Фотках Посмотреть на Яндекс.Фотках To assemble the axle we use different double-slider couplings and Technic pins. Then, five silver crimped pipes are put on: Посмотреть на Яндекс.Фотках Finally, the blowpipe loading the trailers is made from Technic pins and the following elements: Посмотреть на Яндекс.Фотках The yellow 3x2 bricks stand for bales of hay. Посмотреть на Яндекс.Фотках Well, the harvester is assembled. The exterior is interesting but the sheer size makes it unacceptable. To be continued.

Several reasons. 1. Size of the set. 2. Quantity of modules. 3. Number of minifigs. Now, there's a kind of standard of not giving more than 5 minifigs per set (with an exception of 7744). As described, this Public transportation center reminds me to some extent of 10184...

If so, then it should be numbered as 10XXX.
