Difficult to say as I do many things at the same time. About 10 hours. To answer another question, the vig is a part in the rear middle of the ship. To make a complete model that would take about 8 to 10 vigs for each side (port side and starboard). So a community project could be an idea. The other vigs would be on the same basis and members who would participate could help each other in the building. There's one big problem with connecting vigs it's about the masts. They would be cut longitudinally so very fragile!!!
-
Hi ImperialScouts, That's sounds great but I have filled this MOC with a lot of details because it's just a big vig (thx Berry) and I wonder if that wouldn't be too much for a complete ship, it would be encumbered?!

The poster is better than the movie X-D I love this picture too, it looks like an unknown episode of Six Million Dollar Man in Wild West. Next : the Bionic Bigfoot in medieval times???

Wild West: Ghost Town Images "leaked" (UPDATED #3)
BaronSat replied to Brick Miner's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Wow, Brick miner your customs are cool and the photos too. That's an idea I would have liked to have... too late. :-/ Ghostown would make a great line. Did you previewed to make a ghost saloon or any building that way? I hope. -
Hi Legeaux, Thanks for the information, I'll remember that. Hi Bonaparte, I'd love too but I would have to order a zillion of Brown parts :-D And use all the Bionicle and weird color parts that are generally useless X-D Hi 007, You're right that's an anti recoil cord. I noticed that on many cannons photos and drawing I saw and thought it would give more "realism" to the model. Mr Phes, I used technic ball joints. A little to big but I like them much better than 1x1 round bricks. Mr Tiber, I previewed to give it a Spanish name as I'm still in Puerto Brico mood but because of the uniforms that wouldn't have match. Finally I couldn't decide any name, but if someone has a good idea... Phew, that makes a lot of answer in just one reply, I hope it's not too big for the TOS? ... and I succeed not turn quote crazy... *sweet*

We're not too fussed about complete historic accuracy, in fact we don't require any kind of accuray whatsoever! You can make it totally fanastic if you wish, but from what I've gathered you're a well experienced MOC builder so you probably know a lot more about building these creations than I do. I do believe that Count Sneffy (Snefore1) is a historian with some (or maybe not) knowledge on this matter, or I could call in my friend UltraLux as he knows many historic facts. Branching out in other genres is a wonderful thing, but also a pitty since you do a wonderful job with these Pirate MOCs. Hi Mr Phes, That could be interesting to have an historian point of view for any of our MOC, as long as that don't stop us. My next MOC will probably be about Castle but I never know want I'll want to do. Making 2 models in the same theme very closely in time, as I did for the pirates ones, is something I do very rarely. But I found good people here and pirates will be recurrent for me now.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Mr TIBER *sing*

Hi Mr Phes, I must confess that I'm not an historian and I don't really know how things work on a ship. My use of uniforms is to suggest there are civilians and soldiers on the same ship. The officers wear epaulettes and a vests, the men at cannons have a military styled suits because they are soldiers too. And the guy who clean the deck is a sailor. This boat isn't a war ship but a commercial vessel with some armament and soldiers in case it met some pirates. Is this idea unreal? Does anyone here have an history diploma, that would help? I think my next MOC will be about Sci-Fi so I won't have to explain why my hyper-plasma-powered-universe-bender is made with trans orange bricks instead of trans yellow ones. Excepted if some Trekkie is around :-D
-
Hi Mr Tiber, It seems that capstans appear on lower deck on some ships too. That's what I saw when I make my search for this model. About carronades they seems to be weapons for the upper deck, that's right, that's why I just decided they were no more carronades but cannons now. See the technic tube used as a "muzzle" with a large opening place them in this categorie :-P
-
Hello pirates, A large vignette, or a small diorama (as you want) about a ship section. I build it to place the cannons (or is it carronades ;-) ) I made usind Admiral Starwind idea. More photos on my page. BaronSat.net Pirates page Now open fire!

Sorry, it's me. Eric Druon / BaronSat

Pipe as muzzle? Is it the technic tube that you don't like? Yes you can borrow the design as long as you don't forget to send me a case of bottle of grog *wacko* and of course tell all your friends (and the girls, don't forget the girls) how great I am :-D What I didn't like was the grey round plate. I first put it there to equalize the grey technic cam because I have no black ones (poor little Eric 8-| ) but I removed it for my new MOC that I'll post separately. Soon.
-
I found Admiral Starwind post very usefull as I was studying a cannon that would be made out of bricks and I made that : There a lot of possibilities, thanks Admiral.

She's not a soldier she's just wearing a soldier vest she get from a second hand store... or from her brother or lover or win it in a card game... or... who knows... not me, but that kind of things can happen. And by the way Mr Tiber you're right, the captain isn't a pirate but an honest merchant. He has no hook, no peg leg etc... Mr Phes is really a purist. :-P
-
That's quite the ship, Baron! You might want to consider posting your cannon design in this thread. I particularly like those sails. Very professional. We could always use another sails tutorial. ;-) The cannon is so simple that I don't think it need explainations. And the sails are just printed paper with coat my tutorial would be poor compared to one of Evil Willy :-( . But I'm searching some printable vinyl, if I get it I will of course post in the right forum.

I feel like an idiot I mixed an old file containing my old domain name. Just have to fix that. Thanks jipay, Ok, fixed, now it's like that has never existed... I feel like "Big Brother" >:-)

Oops sorry I forgot you Mr Tiber, that's right you noticed my special palm tree. I have problem with quotes too when I reply a message from Mister Phes? Probably because of super security system elaborated to protect the mod??? ;-) No to avoid any more problem with quotes, a brand new message. Yesterday, I shot the sheriff... er I mean the ship. I've uploaded them on BS but the folder is moderated again so I put them on my website and here are the links : http://www.baronsat.net/baronshop/Merchant_Ship02.jpg http://www.baronsat.net/baronshop/Merchant_Ship03.jpg I've inclued a close of the opening part with small cannon that can be used on both side. Now nobody can complain they didn't saw the ship well. I like to pretend to be bad X-D That must be a kind of punishment?! I try to figure how long that would take to me to modify my photo with Paint... Brr, it's scary. *wacko* In fact I tried to include a classic look in this model. But now I consider the model from a different point of view , I think the percentage must be around 5%. Is it a success or a failure? Ok, now it's clear, quotes turned crazy...
-
Certainly but I first "have to" make something military, still don't know what. Thanks. And congrats to Jipay, that was a "clin d'oeil" (how did they say that in english?) to Monkey Island one of my favourite game for the 20th century. BTW I created a correct flag for my spanish fort, here the same photo after correction and a close up of the flag Thanks to Mr Tiber and Bery Syedow (who noticed that the 2 baseplate can combine in different ways)and Ghoulrealm (who noticed the bird) for nice comments.

I like to build and explore different worlds, so it was time for a Pirates MOC. And summer is a good season for that, it's hot, there's a lot of sun and my town is largely made of 18th century building and was a merchant port in the old time. The town is not far from the Atlantic ocean and some days you can smell the flavor of salt in the air, see the seagulls flying over the river and hear the sea breeze... a very Pirates feeling.
-
Do you speak of the brown Nautilus, the one with the Disney look? It's really a great piece. My version is an old MOC and would need to be redone as I did for the ST shuttle or Bridge. I wonder if it can be considered as a Pirates ship? It's an attack ships and the crew is made with Pirates... but of course it's 2 centuries younger and doesn't requires wind to travel... definitively too modern for Pirates. Phes, No, they are the same. You know when I shoot my model I'm like a movie director, I say to my minifigures to do that or go there : "Now everyone go in the front of the fort - now you two the in fort - and you the red shirt go swim with the shark" and they generally obey, particularly the military ones :-D
-
Hi Bonaparte, And I wish (or you I say I dream, like one zillion of other builders) that Lego would buy my model and produce it :-| You're resourceful too, I saw you're army and it's impressive. Now stop building armies and build ... buildings. - This free advice was given to you by BaronSat corp. unlimited - BaronSat corp. is good for you - End of subliminal message------ Thanks for the invitation but I live in France in Bordeaux and rarely go out of my town. That remind me some Star Wars maniacs that can only build fighters, fighters and fighters. That must be a current symptom :-D
-
Hi jipay, Thanks. "Feeling", that what I tried to put in this model so I'm pleased it works. I love sets, vehicles are great too but I really enjoy building places. That makes me think that I haven't shot the ship alone!!! Not that is such a piece but it has opening part behind with a small canon. Let's hope there'll be some sun tomorrow for more shooting.

First I used Adode Illustrator to make the template from existing Lego sails. It an interesing software because it use vectorized lines. Then I imported them in Photoshop* to put the pattern and designs. They are printed on thick paper and I applied a coat of matt varnish. The sails look very good and I couldn't tell they were made from paper in that image. Were you going to make flags using a similiar process? You could make a unqiue flag for the ship or you could replicate the Imperial Armada Flag. Yes, I'm much more efficient with paper than with fabric... fabric terrify me *wacko* About the flag I'm not sure. In a first time I will use an image of the Armada flag to correct my photos but I really like to make my own design for later photos. As I wrote there's still some details that needs work but I wanted to post this model before I forget it in one of my stock boxes (that happened to many military vehicles and playsets). But I need to document on the 18th century spanish flags and logos.

Small ships are difficult to make, I was afraid that the smooth aspect of the hull would look to modern but finally it turns well. Thanks to the mast, sails and ropes. It's just the translation of "Port Brique" (a name from Lugnet if I remember well) into a poor spanish language (sorry I don't speak spanish) but I found it sounds good untill I understood why... I mean the song : "Puerto (B)rico - My heart's devotion - Let it sink back in the ocean..." as they sing in West side story :-D
