  1. That's a good solution for holding tools, for when you run out of clip plates.
  2. I think a "panoramic" photo of the entire street would be pretty cool so here is what I'm proposing. Once I figure out the measurements I'll post the height of the camera and distance from your entry. That way if everyone submits a straight-on photo using those measurements I should be able to shop together a really cool photo of our modular street. I'll figure out separate measurements for the micro street. You don't need a fancy set-up or camera, use a stack of books for your tripod, place some white paper/poster board under and behind your entry, and try not to have direct sunlight shining on your entry. Morning, evening or a cloudy day should work best. If you can't manage these things I'll make do with what you have, and I promise not to say your building is in the ghetto. I'll figure out a public folder everyone can upload to, probably DropBox or some such. Cheers
  3. Nice Parts Usage on this and the beetle.
  4. That looks great, and having a few of those 2x2 round plates is a good accent. I never felt you needed to change the back alley.
  5. Convert your photos to black & whiite/greyscale and it solves your problem as well. LOL
  6. BrickCityDepot, who also post on here, have a huge number for buildings with a variety of bathrooms.
  7. Excellent, I love it.
  8. Hopefully something named after a dog:
  9. The haunted house shown in the video might have removable floors**, but since it doesn't use the established standards to join up the other buildings, its not going to be the next "Modular Building Set". I think the Haunted House will be the Monster Fighter theme's Daigon Alley set. **Its unknown whether it will have removable floors, or whether it is hinged, to allow access to the interior.
  10. I disagree, your model perfectly sums up the excesses leading to the French Revolution, or some of the public works programs (Bridge to Nowhere) we currently have in the US. Its easy to switch from bad planning to "I planned that". Just put a door and part of a bridge on the other side of the tan house structure. That way it looks like you planned to have a gate for the carriage to travel through. I also like the precarious nature of the really tall tower.
  11. Good for you for using old bricks and making do with the colors you had, red, yellow, white, and blue, to build the base. Its a neat design and I dig it.
  12. I love it and only two things stand out. The first is that its kind of slab-sided. I think it would be great if there were some difference to the bridge side of the tan house. Maybe if it hung out further than the grey area or something else to break up that big vertical surface. Something as simple as using a brick with one stud ont he side to attach brown tiles to the timbers stuck out a little further. The second is more complimentary. I like the ground area so much that I wish you have developed that on all sides of the buildings. Is there an exit from either building, or does the carriage just go a short distance back and forth? Bunch of lazy people live there.
  13. Nothing about "It completely baffles me why Lego uses stickers as a crutch so often these days." indicates a knowledge that stickers cost less than printed tiles, or that having printed parts would mean sacrifices in other aspects of the set. As far as there being 30+ stickers, well if stickers don't bother you that much, then having 30+ is great. It means you have a lot of cool details as opposed to very few. Its probably for consistency sake. The 2x4 wood sticker tile and 1x4 wood printed tile would look different and inconsistent. Then there would be complaints of why there were some printed and some stickered wooden planks. Would I prefer all printed parts? Yes, but not if the sacrifices I listed were made to afford them. ----- Something else to consider is that not everyone has a massive pile of bricks to MOC with. Having all those parts printed can limit what you can build if your collection is small. This reminds me to hop on BrickLink so I can replace all the stickered wood in my Burrows set with printed pieces.
  14. Why is it baffling? Printed pieces cost more than stickers. Keeping the price the same, here are some of the sacrifices Lego could have made to avoid stickers: Mediocre figs -- No back printing, no leg printing, only a face on the troll, a troll that can't move its arms, no shield printing, no new axe piece, etc. Not as many extras -- There are a lot of extra loose bits they could have removed. Fewer pieces -- they could have reduced parts by using larger single bricks. Or they could have used single door pieces instead of the brick-built ones. They had a price point they wanted to hit and I think stickers were the best sacrifice to make. Sure they could have raised the price to cover the cost of printed tiles, but then think how expensive it would be in Europe, let alone Australia and New Zeland.
  15. Amazing. Imagine the cost of all those bricks. Now imagine if he spent only a little more on a decent camera.
  16. Better photos would make it easier to see. Take them outside in the morning or on a cloudy day, and place them on a white background.
  17. Fire Brigade is a harder build than the Pet Shop. Since it will be discontinued first, follow that advice and get it secretly. If she does well and really likes PS then she'll like that. If not, you will always make your money back selling a modular after its been discontinued.
  18. It will probably resemble the UCS Sandcrawler comment. Somehting about it being a great model, how they love making big sets, and good luck on your way to 10K. All these things are true.
  19. I pretty much agree with this. I don't miss the Model Team sets because Lego keeps releasing sets like the VW Van and Sopwith Camel, and its pretty easy to build them. I'm just as happy building a Cafe Corner as I would be to own the original. If there was a particular old fig I want, I just get it second hand, which is still cheaper than buying the set itself.
  20. They don't have to, it's called he Internet.
  21. I hate to say it, but that's probably the best thing you've done. I love it. I've been planning on getting a couple of those BrickForge scooters.
  22. I like the wings in the rear, but think the should have some kind if thickening or details. Otherwise they just feel kind of basic. I like that they have the same angle as the two main engines. The missile pods should be open in the rear. There is a Star Wars imperial troop carrier that had rear wings as well. Cheers
  23. They mean it must be a similar size and style to the other modular sets. 1x light-bley curb and at least five studs deep dark-bley tiles, usually 2x2, for the rest of the sidewalk.
  24. They're all quite nice.
  25. I like it a lot. I think there is too much dark-bley on top. Maybe make the bits on the flat roof, and the curved slopes above the dormer windows black.
