Well i can tell you exactly how to make the holes for the sails if you like and it will be easier than you think? well? well alright i'll tell you, go down to any leather store or anywhere that sells belts and ask them for a belt punch this tool is made for punching through leather and as such the hole punching art of it is basically a blade wrapped in an O so you will get clean concise hole each time and it has several different hole sizes that you can use so you can get just the right fit for your sails and now ladies and gentlemen a link to what it looks like. http://i2.ebayimg.com/04/i/04/aa/ac/58_2.JPG

damn nice collection

1.Can you do it in studs AND mid pieces please? 2.how can it possible be 28 studs wide if a normal center section is only 18 studs? I asume you made a mistake in typin' Arrr Mr Tiber Sure shes got4 mid sections and the bow and stern as for the dimesions i go thtem right out of the program i'll convert them to CM but before i do that they are right because you are not taking into account the span of the masts. Oh and she uses the huls from the Imperial flagship. Width: 22.23 CM Height: 68.65 Length: 37.31

True story..... LOL love that but yes i realize thatand some ports do dock ship just more on the brig anf frigate side of things.
-
i like the cotton for smoke nice touch but for me the height and wheels make it in practical for a ship but it could be used on a fort or battlefield. sorry im a seadog not a land lubber.
-
yeah id say pirate port cause it's too small for me to dock any of my ships at lol
-
dunno yet i might build both and have mid construction pics of both in the dry dock but that dry dock just keeps getting bigger. Plus last night i had an epiphany about how to make a ship of the line all 60+ guns without it being tooo big but at the same time being reasonable. it's taking a while to design and if she goes through production good lord i dunno everyone prollly thinks im crazy here for building things so big but i dunno we'll see once im done designing it.

What do you think of the HMCS Starwind
Admiral Starwind replied to Admiral Starwind's topic in Pirate MOCs
my thoughts were back then they would use basically logs or something to that effect and roll the ship into the water but maybe im thinking smaller dry docks and the Starwind would definately need a big dry dock. -
Yeah the Starwind is meant to be the most heavily armed ship in the lego verse using lego cannons which take up a megablock load of space pardon my french plus the hulls don't have enough draft to support the amount of guns needed i suppose i could make a brick built hull but good lord it would take forever. Actually the most heavily armed ship in the legoverse would be the concept ship the andromeda i think her gun capacity was 34 or 36 one of the two.

Well some people have said that the HMCS Starwind was too big and not mavueverable enough to actually get an enemy in its sights, well i heard all that but in the back of my head i was laughing and now i'll show you why. The starwind is meant to me a mobile artillery barrage with it's 26 cannons but i knew when designing the HMCS Starwind that the HMCS Wandering ArchAngel was being designed so i now give you........ THE HMCS GUARD SHIP WANDERING ARCHANGEL Specs: Length: 87 studs Width: 28 studs Height: 41 studs Masts: 2 Sails: 6 Cannons: 4 pivot mounted rail riding cannons Basically this baby can do laps around any ship while reducing the hull at the water line of that ship to swiss cheese. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/toyotawo...arch-angel1.jpg And to give you a comparison of size here's a shot of the Starwind Super imposed with the Wandering ArchAngel and in formation. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/toyotawo...hips/fleet2.jpg

But also beware there is something coming over the rise that will answer alot of questions people had about the starwind. -
The deck of the Starwind will have white decks mostly just cause the second deck of the ship would be seen on the side of the ship so to keep the color theme going i kept the white and then it became mandatory throughout the entire ship. AS for accuracy no one builds their lego ships here to spec or realism that i can see cause they would have to lose the bottom sail holder, have the sails main boom ie the boom holding the top of the sail tied backwards and down to the deck, there would also be rigging dangling down about 5 feet from the top along the sail in about 1 foot increments to tie up the sail when it was rolled up plus the bottom of the sail again would also be tied backwards and down to the deck or railing area. Now these are all generalization and i'm sure someone can't wait to correct me so fly at er.

Sounds awesome! Don't forget to add the minifigs doing construction work during the photo shoot. ;-) Will this dock be anything major or just a backdrop sort of deal? I'm not sure how extensive the dry dock will be cause my thoughts are that when we all think about a dry dock we think of modern ones wheer in hte olden days im not really sure what they looked like. Lol i would add minifigs for sure if i had any to spare but i cant afford the blasted minifigs off of BL and thats the only place i can find imperial or the guys in blue. oh yeah check out this recent modification and youll see what you'd be starring down if you pissed off the starwind. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/toyotawo...s/broadside.jpg -

Well see here's the thing the desgin changed again on the ship but only in the sense that i added another gun to the lower deck which i will have illustrated soon but having said that the answer to your real world counter part question is very soon: I have ordered the bow, stern, mid sections, masts, rigging and some other pieces do i am thinking of doing a MOC of a dry dock and put the ship in there and show the progression of the ship in stages as i buy the parts and then finally i will christen her and set her out to sea. What do you guys think? -

So after much revision and what not here is the rvamped pictures of the starwind minus the rigging sails and wheel. Oh and before anyone says it yes the sails are different heights. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/toyotawo...starwindbow.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/toyotawo...starwindaft.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/toyotawo.../starwind3d.jpg noe the question is do the railings look better like this? http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/toyotawo...tarwindside.jpg or better in yellow? http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/toyotawo...indyellrail.jpg -
interesting well looks like ill have to order me up some lightsaber blades lol
-
Ok so anyone know if those light sabers will actually work to substitute in for the cannon pivot point before i go ordering 24 of dem ? can anyone actually mock this up?
-
Nope... but I may have to "confiscate" your lego....hand it over, I got a boat to build. :) Arrr yer welcome to try morse.
-
are you really gonna cry if i kill a few defenseless antenna? You arent gonna call the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Lego are you?

It's interesting i find the color scheme rather over done the red white and black that is but that's just me, in some of his other pics he uses white sails which looks good. The flags then of course don't suit the color scheme and sails. The strencastle is pretty nice but i think it's a little large given the size and lenght of the ship, which brings me to my next point the lenght of the ship i think doesnt suit it the sails seems crammed together and i think the triangular mid sail needs to be higher or not there at all. The cannons seem sto be a little excessive where you have 2 big ones on the bridge and the bow, in most cases these would have been 9 pounder rail mounted cannons. The life boats on the deck seem a little cramped. Now the good: I like the name of the ship. I like the expansions on the BSB and SES designs. I wish i could afford real cannons like he can but my design has left it open that i could still use real ones. I like the life raft lower system off the back though that is nice and sweet. Thats about it.
