Well, it might at least kill the theme, seeing as Jack Stone was a considerable failure. The Juniors plates and wall panels generally seem designed to prepare kids to use basic LEGO construction techniques — compared to Jack Stone, there are fewer walls panels that you "slide in" via grooves, columns that lock onto pins mounted on the base, or vehicle parts snapped together using built-in Technic pins. The base parts also make it VERY easy for kids with no non-Juniors sets to join bases together in a sturdy manner, as opposed to Jack Stone bases which might require Technic connectors or traditional baseplates that have to be carefully locked together from above.

The kind of parent who has a lot of disposable income and spends a considerable portion of that on gifts for their child. One of the most profitable kinds of parent as far as LEGO is concerned! Additionally, any LEGO video game release, even on PC, can potentially demand a lot of up-front investment from parents, since PCs that parents own for personal use do not necessarily have the same graphics processing capabilities as a dedicated game console. It's also worth noting that LEGO City Undercover was actually published by Nintendo. As I see it, Nintendo and TT Games probably saw it as a very beneficial partnership, since both LEGO and Nintendo are incredibly popular with children, and LEGO games have been incredibly successful on Nintendo consoles in the past. The opportunity to have early access to the system hardware (and be able to devote all their development time to optimizing the game for one system that they didn't have prior experience developing for) was probably a big incentive for TT Games as well. CM4Sci, according to the original tweet, this was a "sneak peek" at E3. No mention of them being for sale or distribution there, though.

I'm actually not terribly bothered by the placement of the Toa's shoulders. It's not actually that unusual for a figure's shoulders to be set back from their hips, which is one of the things I really liked about this torso. I suppose the Toa would be more realistic if the shoulders were set back just one module from the hip and neck joints rather than two modules, as with that Hero Factory torso beam, but I'm not sure it's a huge enough issue to warrant a new gearbox design so soon after we got this current one. From a practical standpoint, nesting the gearbox and the torso beam would have its own limitations anyway. The current gearbox setup is a lot more practical for sets like Lewa, Kopaka, or Onua who need their shoulders raised and/or need to make use of the torso beam's natural shoulder joints, for a character like Skull Slicer who needs an axle to pass all the way through the center of the gearbox, or for characters like Pohatu, Gali, and Kopaka who have one shoulder joint "locked". And armoring a character's lower back would add the same amount of thickness to the torso anyway unless you integrated a ball joint into the gearbox itself. And as for increasing the length of the neck, LEGO generally doesn't do things "ever-so-slightly". The fact that the connection points of all the current CCBS beams can be mapped to a full-module grid does wonders for their versatility, and so if you wanted to increase the length of a torso's neck joint it would have to be by a full module, which I think would be overkill. The neck of the current head piece is already a half module longer than the neck of a Glatorian head or Brain Attack head anyway. Lengthen the neck any further and you'd pretty much NEED to raise the shoulders on every set that used that torso beam just to keep it from looking silly.

I'm not sure what WB Games' reason for not releasing this on PC is (or what the reasons of the other toys-to-life manufacturers are), but the fact remains — if this game is anywhere near as popular as Skylanders or Disney Infinity then it should be able to survive just fine without a PC release. Will it reach peak sales potential? Perhaps not. But there's no reason to think it will flop without a PC release when that hasn't happened to either of its major competitors in the toys-to-life category.

I'd honestly prefer if he did have the scar, since that's what the sets so far have established and I'd rather that the minifigures stay consistent. But a new expression is great. I think Kai's constant scowl in the sets is a lot more off-putting than his scars. This will also be a great asset for people who want to make Ninjago brickfilms.

Well, I got the link from somebody in the BIONICLE topic, but Ameet is a pretty significant publisher since they do a lot of the illustrations for LEGO activity books and chapter books around the world, not just the ones published in Poland. Cool! This is our first time seeing Aira's workshop in any of the animations! And Enki too! Those birds Aira has are really cool, wonder if they'll ever be made as LEGO parts. I think this is my favorite of the webisodes so far! It certainly has the most world-building.

Yeah, I'm surprised how much different Basher's function is than I had expected. Using a 3.2mm aerial instead of a 5M axle with stop and a piece of corrugated pipe instead of rubber bands makes the function more wobbly than what I had envisioned, but that offers slightly more freedom as a result, so his arms aren't forced to swing forward in perfect unison. Whether this is truly advantageous I won't know until I have the set in hand. But it definitely makes the function more unique than I had considered.

I think Path of the Ninja was just a preliminary title for Secret World of the Ninja. Every Google search result for it has the same ISBN listed, even the Brickipedia page.

Bionicle Skull Villain Alternate Builds

Hmm, your Slicer modifications are simple, but I still greatly prefer the sets with the Tr. Flu. Reddish Orange accents. The color schemes feel a lot less dynamic and "evil" to me without them. I'm glad you seem to have kept them for Warrior, at least. I can't say whether I prefer the old or new gear setup until I actually have the set and can try its function out for myself. -

Yeah, I also thought it was a lot of fun. And in spite of all the silliness they even managed to work in a nice, poignant friendship lesson at the end. It was a great little love letter from the creators to the fans who have supported them for the past 99 episodes. I wouldn't call it the best episode in ages upon ages, though. Season four had a lot of winners, and I loved "Twilight's Kingdom". Though I guess that WAS over a year ago (yikes)! -
Interesting. I was expecting the instruction booklet versions of the comics to be longer than the ones on the boxes (as was the case with the Toa and Protector sets), but in fact they seem to be the same number of panels.

Bionicle Skull Villain Alternate Builds

Not a bad-looking mod/revamp, although I miss the Tr. Flu. Reddish-Orange and am not totally digging the changes to the head. The pincers are nice but I feel like the grey parts used to attach them are a bit obtrusive. -
It's already confirmed that the Transparent Blue Gali mask distributed at the LEGO Inside Tour will remain exclusive. Only 250 were produced, 200 of which were reserved for distribution to Inside Tour guests and the other 50 of which were kept for internal use. Now, whether there will be any OTHER type of transparent Gali mask release yet (such as a blended gold mask like the ones in the Skull Villain sets, or a Transparent Light Blue one, or who knows what else), we don't know, but don't get your hopes up for that particular one to get a wider release.

Not a single thing listed on that page is a Scholastic or Ameet activity book. In fact, not a single thing listed on that page is an activity book at all. The only books listed there are the deluxe Dorling Kindersley reference guides which, needless to say, cost a lot more than any activity book of this kind. The mask being a "selling point" is meaningless. The bricks and minifigures in these activity books are ALWAYS selling points, but not one of them has ever been exclusive. Even saying it's "possible" is making some big assumptions about what kind of budget LEGO has to devote to a freebie in a $9 activity book. Sure, a lot of things are "possible" for a company LEGO's size, but that's not reason enough to shape your expectations around that possibility, especially when it flies in the face of all precedent.

The one in the activity book cover, you mean? That shouldn't be a surprise — anybody who expected any exclusive part whatsoever in an activity book cover was kidding themselves. LEGO has been doing these kinds of "activity book with minifigure" or "activity book with model" sets for years and the contents are always parts or figures from other sets. In any case, at least they did go with a mask that's relatively hard-to-get, seeing as it only comes in the largest set of the wave.

The Ameet 2015 LEGO book catalog has pictures of some Elves books coming out this year, including a pic of the brick-built bracelet that comes with the Elves activity book! It's really cute and stylish, not to mention reasonably sturdy-looking! I was curious what the bracelet would look like, and I'm really impressed with what LEGO came up with.

From what I've heard Pridak's waist articulation has not aged well — many people had issues with their Pridak sets' upper bodies sagging shortly after building them, a problem that only got worse with time. Maxilos had a much sturdier design, but of course, that was a large enough set that it could integrate actual working pistons into the torso. Maxilos also had much more shoulder articulation than a typical set.

Ninjago: Masters Of Spinjitsu TV Show Thread

Maybe my wording was a bit unclear, but I was speaking strictly for me and certainly never had the gall to pretend I could speak for the target audience.- 4,591 replies

I'm quite surprised to see so many System parts (including the System spring shooter) in a constraction set! Not that I'm complaining. The new barrel element for that blaster is quite interesting. It'll be interesting to see how people use that.

Ninjago: Masters Of Spinjitsu TV Show Thread
Aanchir replied to Lance's topic in LEGO Media and Gaming
I'm 24 years old and I have found most of the jokes hilarious (on par with many of those from LEGO City Undercover). Don't presume to speak for everyone just because you didn't find them funny. We found out how Zane got to Chen's island. Is that not something of importance? You're all the time talking about how nothing outside the show is canon, but you never give any kind of source for that — you just expect people to take your word for it. I'm not under the illusion that every Ninjago story is fully canon (there are some that obviously contain huge contradictions), but just as in Star Wars or Bionicle, something not being fully canon doesn't necessarily make it completely non-canon, particularly since some of it might very well be based on material from the story bible (which we, as fans, do not get to see firsthand).- 4,591 replies

Ninjago: Masters Of Spinjitsu TV Show Thread
Aanchir replied to Lance's topic in LEGO Media and Gaming
I'd say it's what we might call "semi-canon". As in, the STORY is mostly canon, but there are some breaks from canon, mostly for gameplay reasons (like how Kai has his Blade Cycle back in one vehicle level, which I presume he can't do without his Dragon Sword of Fire, and then it transforms into the Kai Fighter for a flying segment in that same level). My brother got Shadow of Ronin recently and we've really been enjoying it! Even if the voice actors they got sound different from the ones from the show, the characterization in the script is so on-point that at some points you hardly even notice (though the spell is broken a bit when somebody mispronounces Nya's name or something silly like that).- 4,591 replies

They probably did what they did because those parts click pretty securely into place, while ones attached by axles can easily pop right off the ends unless they are axles with a stop ridge at the end (like these).

Lego Elves? Where should i talk about my shame....
Aanchir replied to kalioon's topic in General LEGO Discussion
There are plenty of women who enjoy primarily boy-oriented toy lines like Transformers, LEGO City, or LEGO Bionicle, and society doesn't shame them for it. Why should men enjoying a girl-oriented toy line be any different?
