  1. Is this a new power miner set? Hopefully I fooled you. It's my latest moc. I was trying to do an alternative build for titanium command rig. But I was too lazy to keep track of the pieces. Still most of the parts used are from one of the power miner sets. The large hammer wasn't a part of this at first. But the side looked too empty, so I added the hammer I built a while ago. Maybe if I added some flick dynamites instead, it'll look more like a real set C & C are welcome.
  2. Blue roof is not my choice. I try to stick to the original set's color scheme. The roof decoration isn't my idea either. I stayed with the emperor's stronghold set choice.
  3. I try to buy everything ... when they are on sale. The cheap richie rich method.
  4. Great tutorial. I really like the jumper plate idea. I have so much trouble with it. Thanks
  5. I was inspired by all the set cross with modular house I saw here. So I decide to do one myself. Here's my Emperor's Hotel, based on 3053 Emperor's stronghold. I also referenced real Japanese castles and Imperial Palace Hotel in Vegas. A bit side view. Before doing this moc, I thought that I have all the tan bricks I'll ever need. How wrong was I. I used up all my 1x tan bricks and the top level is built partially with all 1x1 bricks. 3rd floor: VIP room 2nd floor: a bit empty ground floor: front desk "check in?" Our ninja princess is a fashionable girl. She looks a lot better in her tight skirt. The back Complete with a small garden Obviously ninja doesn't use front doors like most people close up of the ninja helicopter on the roof top All 4 pieces of the modular house together Residents of the Green Grocer meets their unexpected neighbor. This is my first modular house moc. After building this, I really realized how little brick I have. A lot of my ideas are limited by brick availability. Anyway comments and criticisms are welcome, especially constructive suggestions. I think there are a lot of room for improvements.
  6. In response to your comments: My rig moves back and forward just fine. But this set is a bit fiddly, a small misalignment can cause problem. I think the two crystals are suppose to be the power source. If you look at the stickers on the slanted pieces, it says fuel injection. The blurry pic was an accident at first. Then I thought it was a good idea, so I took a couple more to get a better result.
  7. I'm surprised to not find any review for Power Miner's flagship set. So I'm going to review it. It's my first review, hopefully you'll like it. Set# - 8964 Name - Titanium Command Rig Theme - Power Miner Year - 2009 Piece Count - 706 Minifigs - 5 (including rock monsters) MSRP - US$99.99 front back I'll go through the play features later. It comes in 5 numbered bags and 1 unnumbered bag and bunch of other things. Bag 1 has been assembled already. The minifigs. The miners are the standard crews. Not that interesting. The red rock monster's left arm can function as a catapult. You trigger it with the switch on the back. The catapult arm on my monster is a bit loose. Not sure if it's just mine. The small rock monster is in another bag. I'll show it later. All minifigs have back print. Pretty standard for PM. Two instruction books. It's weird that one is horizontal and the other is vertical. And they are different sizes. Inventory list If you can't see, it comes with 50 black technic pins, plus 3 extra. Just from this you can tell that this set is pretty technic heavy. DSS. It's pretty small for a set this size. Not going to apply. Bag 1 makes the frame. The printed keyboard piece is interesting. After Bag 2, those wheels are HUGE. Half way though Bag 3 and end of instruction book 1. You can't see very well. But I hate the way the hook is done. If you want to take this set apart, you need to untie the knot. Else the pulley is stuck with the string. After Bag 3, the crane is finished. And here is the blue rock monster. Interesting way to do inversion. Although I'm not sure it's necessary here. Bag 4 makes the tower. It's very sturdy with all the technic poles. And finally after bag 5, it's done. Leftover The best part of this set is that it TRANSFORMS. It not only transforms, after transformation all the functions still works. It's probably one of the best transformation design I've seen. The only flaw with the transformation is that the control room is slanted when it's upward. But it's not that bad. Now let's go through all the functions listed on the back 1. Transformation 2. Main drill spins when moving forward. In fact the dark gray section of the drill spins in the opposite direction, which is pretty cool. Here's how it works There are wheels beneath. When spinning the wheels pull another set of gear-like things... Which spins the black axle in the middle, which spins the drill. And in its upward position, you can spin the gear with your hand and in turn spins the drill. So the drill works in both formations. Clearer image of the wheel in the tower position. 3. The crane itself can be raise and lowered with a lever that controls a gearbox. 4. The hook can also be moved up and down with a gear. Again I don't like the way the string is attached on this section neither. 5. The other hook that I mentioned earlier can be used to err... hook onto things... Not exactly useful. 6. You can put the cage inside. And it's possible with both forms. 7. Throwing rock monster 8 & 9 flick fire stuffs (dynamite and net) Also the control room's roof comes off. I'm not going to give a score because I think it's meaningless. So I'll just talk about how I feel about this set. Design: I love its design. The transformation and drill function are just great. The whole set feels very technic. I'm not a technic builder. I never had any technic sets. But I think technic design works great here. It gives the whole thing an industrial feel. It is a little shaky when you pick it up. But you can't help it when it's bigger than a modular house and with only 1/3 the brick. Build: A little challenging, but in a very good way. It's not boring and repetitive. When you finish and see all the pieces and functions come together, it feels great. Playability: If I'm still a kid, I'd be playing with this all day non-stop. With all the functions, this set is very playable. Minifigures: Depends on what you have already. If you have all the PM figs, then it's just a repeat. I didn't have any big rock monster, so I wanted one. But after getting it, it's not as good as I thought. It's a bit unstable with it's tiny legs and large body. Plus the arms are a bit loose on mine. Parts: Some parts are interesting like banana and printed keyboard, if you don't have one already. But overall there aren't any parts that stand out as rare and useful. There are quite a few rare but specialized parts, like the big wheel, the drill and the crane. Price: I think $100 is a bit expensive for 706 pieces, especially when 50 are black pins . But I got it after a 25% discount. At $75, it's not as bad. Overall: It's a great set with lots of cool functions and playability. I'd definitely recommend it when its on sale. Some extra pics The new rock monster is bigger than it's predecessor. But I like the old one better. It's much sturdier and less cartoonish. Recreation of the cartoon from one of the magazine. The Power Miners have to face off with the Crystal King. Drill, Drill the hell out of the monster Crystal King: ARRRRRRRR!!! Any questions?
  8. How about something like this troll battle wheel? It's not technic, but it's a big wheel nonetheless.
  9. Why do they have to go somewhere with people? I think arctic or antarctic will be a good idea. I want to see some steampunk like icebreaker.
  10. Some of the new world race sets are rumored to have over 50 stickers. That's part of the reason why this theme is turning me away.
  11. After looking at the new world race line, I noticed the HUGE amount of stickers used on them. So the question is which set so far has the most number of stickers. I'll define it as most number of separate stickers, regardless of its area.
  12. I read somewhere saying it's 260 pieces which is still pretty good.
  13. Hogwarts costs 2.5X but also has 4 time more pieces. The tower is a bit overpriced with 360 pieces. I guess i'll only get it if there's a big discount.
  14. The transformed HQ sub looks better than I previously thought. I might get it if the price is decent.
  15. Too much PC. That's all I have to say.
  16. I like fantasy space, because real space isn't sci fi anymore. But if we are talking about a believable real (i.e. no aliens) futuristic theme, then i'm ok. It'd be cool to have a futuristic modular building series after the current modular building ends.

    Modular Buildings

Your GG is flipped around, which makes it look kinda weird to me. But that makes the setup unique I guess.
  18. I like moc that captures a moment like a photo. Here's a little moc that I tried to create some of that effect. Alien tentacles coming out of nowhere. In fact, it's from the alien dissecting lab downstairs. Both floors security guard on task murdered research staff topview Hopefully the story make sense.
  19. I think the best part of this city are all the tall trees. Definitely makes the city more real in a way and makes the city compact looking. One of the best city i've seen.
  20. Nice work. I see that lots of non-lego parts are used. I wish TLG would make a proper ancient chinese theme and introduce some new pieces. That pointy roof is a good idea for a new piece. A lego tiger would be nice too.
  21. Not too much that we haven't seen. The most striking thing for me is the number of new pieces that comes with this set. The green canopy, new curve, white almost t-shape poles, and some accessories. I'll get it for SURE.
  22. My bad. For some reason I couldn't find it a while ago. On the topic, this set looks very gorgeous, a sure buy.
  23. Nooooooo... Green grocer is no longer sold on S@H. I was planning on getting it this month before Grand Emporium comes out.
  24. I guess I'm weird that I like pretty much every theme out there now, with the exception of Star Wars. I can't say that I have a favorite. I just like LEGO. I was never really into star wars, and it's over priced. But I'll still get a small set for some interesting accessories and completeness sake.
