LEGO Collectable Minifigures General Discussion
vexorian replied to Nabii's topic in Special LEGO Themes
We know that each box will contain 60 packages and each box contains at least one of each minifig , and that there are 16 of them. The best possible probability for a rare minifig would be 3/60 (5%) and the worst would be 1/60 ( 1.66 % ) So, best case scenario you will need to buy 20 packages on average before you get the rare minifig you want and worst case scenario you will need 60. I really, really hope, rare figs are not that rare. -

Hence the reason this is a great thing. None of these guys is really undesirable and they are not far in content from the usual impulse sets considering the number of new molds. Even the least desirable figs have plenty of uses and are recyclable.Unfortunately, this is the same reason trading will get hard. If I had two robots, I would see no reason at all to trade them with someone who has 2 cheerleaders ( I am almost sure these are some of the rarest). Repetitions are desirable in this case. Huh at the end of the day, having to learn to deal with your own greed, envy and frustration is a great lesson ^^. Nothing teaches kids the value of money more than having to waste their own money on collectibles, and this comes from a guy that wasted tons on collectibles as a kid from my own money. After many failed attempts I eventually learned my lesson. Anyway, it seems that even the rarest fig will have a chance of at least 1/60 of appearing, it is not going to be very incredibly unlikely to meet a friend that has the fig you are looking for. --- I actually LIKE that you can't know what you get. You know what would happen if it was possible to know. The toy stores would end with tons of a certain fig few people want and all the good ones will banish the first day... My biggest issue is that some figs are rarer than the others. It was hard enough to complete the collection without that artificial difficulty. And my biggest worry is that they may actually use bad plastic which would suck, really, a lot. -

Also crossing my fingers. Well, wouldn't mind if they are made in China BUT with good plastic. -

That statement is false. Most bionicle parts are at least compatible with Technic. Plenty of the articulations are compatible with system. And all the technic base pieces which are used in abundance on bionicle can somehow be used with System. You should see my brother's half bionicle half system mech. Subjective. Not really, well, as for the first years there were plenty of changes. And as for the last years they did change as well. IE: There's plenty of differences between 2009 and 2008 sets both in style and parts... Subjective again. When you compare every pair of 2009 canisters, they are just as different or more different from each other as these figs. Same with 2008 sets and half of the 2007 ones. When I see these minifigs' differences, they are barely different in printing and molds used for accessories. Something which even the worst Bionicle lines that suffered from clone syndrome can beat. -

I wonder how many AFOLs out there are givin a serious consideration into buying the whole box. It is a safer bet than buying bags sporadically or buying from bl if you want many of the rare figs. -
Then they'd ask for a 18 years old, wouldn't they?

All we have of the bike is a pic of the box art, which is always a cgi...
-
I'd say the toy fare cgi pics (adverts towards consumers) are more official than these ones (prototypes to get deals with retailers). So, probably stormer's weapon would look more like the cgi pic than the fair pic. (Actually, I see no difference, only that they forgot to attach the electricity to the right hand) Which kind of shows that the electricity / fire / etc effects are detachable from the silver thing, which is great. Adding the more detailed foot decoration and all. I think that all that is needed for the heroes to go to my approved list is that the emblems were removable from the rest of the chest decoration. What they are saying is basically that even though there are apparently ZERO pins or axles doesn't mean the set has to suck (av-matoran/agori I am looking at you) and they still can provide a good variability/amount of parts. I just hope the no pin/axle philosophy does get added to the larger sets though.

It is just there so people that just buy the sets without caring about the story or web surfing continuously about them buy these things when they go to the toy store looking for ... bionicles.

Lego, bring back the alternate builds and "Just Imagine" slo
vexorian replied to Forresto's topic in General LEGO Discussion
BTW, I sometimes wish all themes would have a bucket set with tons of assorted bricks for that theme. I would really prefer it over alternate builds and I think it has the same 'imagine' effect. Well, it seems the focus groups do not agree. Kids apparently just want to roleplay and LEGO is also apparently trying to focus on it ... I sometimes get nightmares about LEGO becoming playmobil. -
Hmnn, maybe on the inside...
-
As far as I remember there was only one change around 2003. The 'special' pins (hybrid, triple) became blue ones. The loose pins became tan, the 2-axles became red and I think 3-axles became light gray. Was there another change in color?

9 Year Old Suspended because of "LEGO" Gun
vexorian replied to The Green Brick Giant's topic in General LEGO Discussion
While reading I was actually praying that it was a prank from theonion. Too bad it wasn't. -
I think the whole point was that young members, all of them that the staff are aware of are being watched closely since they originally lied. So, if you are not under their radar yet it is probably a good idea to avoid calling attention by making it way too evident you are under aged . I think it was more of post calling for these guys to be quiet and try not to be noticeable rather than a post explaining why the ones that admit their age are less honest than the ones that don't.

Well, Huw from brickset.com said that the bags are thick enough that it is very hard to tell. Here's a correct url: http://krisabel.ctv.ca/image.axd?picture=2...010creator8.jpg -
Is it me or do the villains use the ben 10 chest piece? I don't think it looks like the inika build, though I think I would have prefered it since at least it is two pieces and you can play with height by moving the hip bellow... Von Nebula and Rotor look like win as I expected. Though they are a little short and I hope rotor's color changes to yellow, cause it looks sort of funny with that tone of orange. Edit: Von Nebula's legs look strange, hope they get fixed before release. The rest are ok. I might get one of the lesser villains, or maybe I'll get two Von Nebulas instead. -- I can't seem to deduce how the heroes' legs work. I mean, is the decoration a different piece from the feet. I think/hope it is.

The parts just don't impress me enough to remotely justify the high cost. Unlike what their cost suggests, they are not really anything extraordinary or much better than what we have in bionicle or hero factory. Seriously, these things would be fine for 66% of the cost. But with the current price it is a very bad purchase. I think that in the last review the box suggested a combiner model and if I remember correctly this is one of the two that can get combined with spider monkey. If you plan buying another ben 10 set try getting the one that's left to have the combiner. The models are not any more flexible than what we've seen in bionicle since 2006.

There are two ways to get controlled by the crowd, one is to always do whatever the crowd does and the other is to always do the opposite of what the crowd does... Regarding your last paragraph, I think I did. It is not that strange, it is just a movie, and a good one with good 3d fx though the script is incredibly predictable. I mean, remember when you watched Titanic and you knew the thing was gonna sink? It is exactly like that...
-
Well, it is a line meant for 5-8 years old kids! Everybody knows that making their parents pay exorbitant amounts of money for their toy is one of the top priorities of little kids... Eh, wait nope, the age range does not help at all to explain the price, sorry... Seriously, if you were a parent, would you buy these things? Sure there is some build ability that is sort of interesting, but once the kid does the 19 connections, what else? it is not like these are the only option for a young kid. I mean, look at the sort of creator sets you could get for two bucks less: http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=5866-1 Even if the kid was too young for creator, then he would be better off with duplo or megabloks...

Lego, bring back the alternate builds and "Just Imagine" slo
vexorian replied to Forresto's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I wanted to point out that brickmaster is restricted to some few countries, so I'd prefer the fun wasn't exclusive to it, or that it was an online version, maybe? I think that even if alternate models in instructions were cool or not. it is always nice to remind the person that got the set that she may take it down apart and build something else with it... I think that if I was a parent nowadays I would buy only creator sets until the child is old enough to buy his own sets of the theme he wants... -
It seems to me the whole idea with getting rid of bionicle was to have a lighter story with less baggage that could be introduced to new fans and was lighter than Bionicle's. I think set-wise even in 2009 they sold well so it was unlikely LEGO would change that aspect.

From close look the limbs are not really that bad, the pieces are small and not much worse than for example the Toa Nuva legs... The larger ones actually have cross insertion points. The torso is definitely the worst part. Although it is good news that the blue part with logo can be extracted. It is still way too much of a piece that could be done by combining much smaller pieces. I think it would be a fine set if it had a much, much lower price. Edit: I guess the small holes in some of the parts are compatible with minifig accessory "sticks" ? (sorry, don't know what the official name is)
-
ARe toy story sets not normal good selling sets?I think that the whole appeal there was with LEGO board games was that you could also use the pieces for other things or replace the current pieces with other ones, or even modify them. It is also bad for image if they start to use this cheap plastic on things that are supposed to get sold outside their normal market.

Holy shit! This is the set that got me into LEGO! (and I am 25 years old). Thanks to the detailed pics I finally found out. What happens is that there was this kid in school (when I was 9) that always brought this set to school (I have no idea why would anyone do that) and I loved everything related to it. Before it, I was familiar with other building toy brands that were generic and not nearly as cool than this one and its trans-yellow parts... The figs were also cute, but what I remember was how it used a steer wheel for controls, and I also remember the fact it had four 'wings' on the back... I was so impressed that I ended up buying a small set from a similar brand on the street with my own money. Me and my brother used to fight for it. But that's when my dad noticed and said "but I know where there are good ones" the next day, my brother had a legoland white racing car while I got 6813. That one came with all and a spyrius advert so I was hooked for life. This set was very fun to play with even after more than 16 years. It is a great addition to any collection and I am shocked that I was able to play with something that is pure classic gold... Edit: I fixed some strange typos, I was actually sleeping while typing this. BTW: *Megabump*
