  1. You're absolutely correct; it's just that lego hasn't made a plane of that scale and caliber in a long time. I am really hoping for new ones; the old ones are expensive on the secondary market. And I won't be buying the Enlighten sets or any other knock-offs, I'm a pretty big purist.
  2. I would get the first set if Lego decided to make it. It's pretty slick. Hey, if these low-life companies can rip-off TLC's designs, why can't the reverse happen?
  3. It depends on the size of the ship for me. The smaller boats definitely look better brickbuilt. The bigger ships, such as the cargo ship, are probably better looking and more economical to have the one piece hull. The main issue that bugs me is that the floating hulls sit much higher than the brickbuilt ships, because the brick ones are cut off at the waterline.
  4. A binder with plastic pages, sorted by set number. I'd recommend a series of small binders. My single 3" binder gets unwieldy when handling pages near the back.

    New town

I like your town a lot, especially the design on the yellow and red building. If TLC made CC style buildings 20-25 years ago, the result would be that and most of the rest of your town. Two questions: are all the signs/stickers your designs, and can I see a few close ups of the smaller ones?
  6. Those are incredibly well designed. What other kinds of rolling stock are you planning on making? I'd like to see how you'd make a tank car.
  7. Pupils on the minfigs. Plus the overly complex faces for simple lines like town. I generally dislike the way the simple smile has been supplanted by more complex, less universal ones like the silver sunglasses one or the grey bearded guy.
  8. This site usually has new stuff soon after it's revealed. I generally don't look anywhere else. It doesn't always make the frontpage, so check the forums.

    Divers

Your ship is even better than the biggest ship in the original Divers line (set 6560). Great details in the living quarters and lab too. Your set reminds me of the new coast guard ship, which I think would be better as a diving ship than a rescue ship. Any plans to use the hull from the new town harbor? That hull is huge, but I could see a few disadvantages to it, like the large depressed center portion.
  10. The vertical banner that was mentioned is this piece. Unfortunately the only solid colors made are yellow and dark grey.
  11. I'd love to see the Ebon Hawk as a set comparable to the minifig Falcon. The games were popular enough to sell well as a one-time offering, especially if they ever make #3. There's not much else in the game that would be distinctive enough to be a set. The sith fighter, if included at all, could go in the Ebon Hawk set.
  12. Terrible. Why is that car ultra-detailed and then the helicopter in the same set has a huge <insert that tiresome argument> piece for the cockpit? The sets aren't even that inspired. As others have said, this looks just like another attempt at Alpha Team. And should this really be in Trains and Town? It it has a very limited link to those themes, even if the sets have cars and minifigs.
  13. I'm glad to see the mail van has the doors that used to be on the older cargo containers. I had given up on those older ones, but now that they're still out there, I may invest in the older cargo system instead of the new 6-wide ones. Both sets are good enough, I'll get both. I'm hoping for a postal building too, even though I have the smaller of the old post offices. A nice big modern one would be great. I'm not too hung up about the design of the plane; I've got the neat old cargo plane with the tail that swings open (one of the best plane sets) for big packages. The truck is goofy looking, but if I get sick of looking at it I can rebuild it into a classic looking one. Great review by the way, the pictures are some of the better one I've seen in a review recently.
  14. 160 miles is pretty far, even when you don't have to take a boat or plane to get to it. :-/ That's about how far I am to the Chicago Lego Store, where apparently all these new sets end up arriving first.
  15. Great review, just the white background made it sometimes hard to distinguish the edges of the set. That'll happen though, no big deal. Any chance of an underside shot of the nose piece for rocket? I'm curious to what it looks like. And I'm glad to see the wheels on the ATV are the same ones I have from an old Ice Planet 2000 set I got nearly 15 years ago (different color of course). Good to see TLG dusting off old moulds and reusing them, not destroying them like other moulds for certain elevated, motorized sets.

    7732 Review

This set is okay judging by those pictures. The lack of pilot is the biggest concern, but spare pilot figs can't be too hard to find. I know I have one myself from an unbuilt airplane I have. This set will look better when I buy at least two to lengthen it. Three sets might require larger wings and possibly switching to jets, so two will be a good size without adding extra pieces.
  17. Good question. This hieroglyph in particular is in the movie. Supposedly it's in the background on the wall as Indy and Sallah (why no minifig of him?) lift the ark up out of the box. Though I've never looked for it, I read about it in a Lucasfilm magazine. I really do wonder if you'd need the SW license to portray R2-D2 and C-3PO even if they appear in a movie you are licensed for.
  18. Several years ago, a poll of ~80,000 British people on the greatest action hero ever resulted in Indiana Jones placing #1, ahead of homegrown hero James Bond. While the licensing of Indiana Jones is far less than Star Wars, the cultural integration is almost on par, at least here in the States. The scene this set portrays is probably one of the most famous and most parodied scenes in any movie.
  19. I wonder if this new battery box will be able to integrate into old 9V trains with little effort. I only have one 9V train, 10001, so being able to switch it to the new system would be great. I would assume that means the box has to be only four-wide to fit inside it. Only time will tell.
  20. Wow, that would be an awesome model for the alternate models they put on the back of the box...if the set was anything but a garbage truck already ;-) Looks like you'd easily be able to modify your model to lift larger dumpster-style waste bins.
  21. A year or two ago, one of the German model companies that makes kits for model railroads had a drive-in that had a small LCD screen in it. So you attached a VCR/DVD to it and your drive-in played real movies. I thought it was an awesome idea. It was probably Faller who made that kit, they make tons of great models. I'm sure some of us more technically proficient AFOLs could cook something up similar. Frankly, I'm surprised no one has yet.
  22. The fact that LEGO is still making any planes in that style, albeit small ones, gives me hope that we'll see what we now have to call 'medium' sized planes again. It would make much more sense to make them now that we have the large planes. The medium ones can act as regional jets/private jets for people who have the big ones, and they will still appeal to people who only have and will only ever have 'medium' planes in their town (like me). I have the plane in your example. It's a great set, but I hate the way LEGO redesigned the logo for the new sets. I don't know why, I just do, though I like the logo on 6375 more than the earlier cargo logo.
  23. The screwdrivers that come on those wheels of 6 tools make pretty good drumsticks. Modern-looking handheld microphones too. Is the drum you want a stationary one, or one of those that is worn on the chest?
  24. As a huge fan of the Art Deco style, I am eagerly anticipating this set. Yeah, the colors on the theatre could have been a little better, but judging by the picture it is mostly generic bricks, so substituting them should be easy. It reminds me alot of the theatre in the town where I went to college. Normal, Illinois Theatre if you want to compare. I love the new gas station as well. I'm undecided on the town hall, I'll have to see better pics. I'll definitely be getting two of this set. It will be the first set I'll keep an unopened copy of ever.
  25. Nope. I did get some spare sticker sheets a long time ago. They were generic Octan ones too, so they were welcome.
