We want the amazing 4999 Vestas Wind Power Plant!
Section8 replied to Klaus-Dieter's topic in LEGO Town
I will definitely buy it. This set is on par with the amazing Maersk Sealand and Boeing 787 models, which I own. -
Are we forgetting previous recent company-only sets, such as the Maersk Sealand? It was originally company-only, but I now have one on my bookcase. Lego will release this on S@H in time, I'm confident of that. The size and likely price won't warrant a full retail release, and like Maersk, few kids would know about the company. Now that the cat's out of the bag, Lego will have no choice but to release to stop the flood of inquiring emails we are sending ;-)

I wonder if other power plants are in the line up. probably not as most other green plants are massive (hydro dams, solar arrays, nuclear plants). Can't wait to see the pics. I hope this isn't another Europe-only promo, like the 1854 Velux house or most of the other great promo sets.

If you're keeping the current color scheme, I'd say do a flat white roof. I don't know what third color would go well with those two, and a flat roof would be fitting for a boxy government building.
-
that's a pretty nice build, would be better if you could manage a roof. But why does a post office need to track satellites?

Super-detailed castle sets would be nice. More modern CC style buildings would be of interest to me but we have town plan for something like that right now. A modern CC style bank would fulfill the two purposes of continuing the CC line and giving us a decent bank set. I hope System-style town sets persist though; the current CC buildings don't fit into my system-style town well.

LEGO Collector's Guide & LEGO Collector - Premium Edition
Section8 replied to Matija's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Hopefully this is available from Lego.com or an online book store; ordering direct from the publisher results in shipping charges of 25.00 Euros to the US, more than the regular edition book itself! This may be my only option for a premium edition though; I am more interested in the hardcover aspect of that edition than any of the extras. -
I also dislike the larger simpler manuals. And the colors need to be tweaked; dark grey and black look way too similar in these manuals.
-
I like it. It has everything I like about town buildings: no back walls, no stairs, simple yet detailed interiors. Just like older system-scale town buildings. Reminds me of the Main Street set, only I like your buildings better.

Since they picked a studio fig for 2002, why didn't they pick the Vampire (with cape)? That is perhaps the best figure ever. The monster would have been a good option too. Oh well, at least it wasn't the overabundant director figure. I view the Octan figure as a classic as well. 1992 was a landmark year for Lego with the introduction of the now ubiquitous Octan brand. The jailbreak joe fig doesn't really stand out from that year to me; the launch command astronaut with gold visor or imperial armada figs I think would have been good choices. For those who want SW figs, it's not going to happen. The reason why they haven't had a straight SW figure pack is because of the licensing agreement. Basically Hasbro whined that minifig packs encroach on their territory so Lego cannot make them. I'd imagine these vintage packs fall into that category.

With doors, of course. Unless it's a convertible where you're supposed to jump over the side to get in.

It's purpose is for me to mod into a offshore oil rig about 30 seconds after I buy it.

Dianoga!

You do make a good point. Lego does use far less packaging than a lot of other luxury items, especially tech ones. I hate those huge plastic clamshell cases that stuff comes in. A cardboard box with a few plastic bags is much better. A good side effect of that packaging style is you can shake your presents at Christmas time and figure out which ones are Lego sets!
-
My guess is that the average EB member's Lego Collection contains less oil than than the average American uses in their car in a month. And I realize that we tend to have larger than average collections. So keep buying Lego sets, and move closer to your job. The cardboard boxes are recycleable too, assuming you don't save them (I don't). They are also likely made out of some recycled material, though I haven't bought one in a while to check for that. Lego Bricks are far more 'green' than the latest electronic do-dad that uses toxic chemicals in its chips and batteries and that a child will get bored with rather quickly. I've still got every Lego Brick that I've ever bought or received; I can't say that about any of my other toys. And if you have bricks you don't want and are wondering if they are recycleable, I'll take them off your hands and determine if they are or not ;-)

I'm excited but a little skeptical about this development. The rechargeable battery is a good idea, and it looks like it is about the size of the old 9V box. I'm really hoping they use 9 volts with the standard 9V connectors because not only will that allow for integration into older trains, but use of the battery box in all the old 9V L&S models. The bigger concern is the receiver for RC. I hope it is integrated into the motor unit, so that old trains won't need too much modification. And while I grew up on 9V and Lionel, I welcome the shift from power through the rails. Two-rail has the problems of crossing rails and such that three trail or battery power don't have. Also, Lego never included a means of insulating connections so you could make track layouts that normally would short circuit. I am looking forward to new layout designs and running multiple trains independently on the same track system.

A decently good set, I do like the throwback to classic space. Though I do think that the price is far too high. It doesn't look like a 900 piece set; the 787 has more pieces that are generally larger but costs much less. I understand the high price is probably due to the limited run. I wonder if they got it down to a more reasonable price if it would be competitive as a retail set. Designs are cool, but the stickers are particularly bad in this set (different color for stickers and torsos? Come on!) but there's not much to be done about it. I really hate the new logo. After seeing the resurgence of the classic space logo in both town figs and the MM line, I was hoping it would be in this set. Oh well. Much like Cloud City and other high priced sets, I would only get this if I found it at a major discount.

that looks pretty neat. I know they make flasher circuits that aren't very big, perhaps you could try that on the roof lights. If you had a bigger model, say a fire truck, you could fit the circuit and batteries inside, which would be pretty neat.

I like the old cars, they scaled well with the old buildings which predominate my collection. Lego is still making town buildings at that scale, so I hope they'll continue with the cars too. The new cars and trucks are out of scale with the older sets. The same with the new giant airplanes, they're larger than either of my airport buildings. A line of super realistic cars would be nice, but not at the expense of the traditional system vehicles. Kind of like the thing Lego is doing with buildings with the CC and City sets. Super realistic cars would have the same appeal as CC buildings to younger kids, too complex and not enough playability. But a few sets might sell well amongst the older crowd.

Thank you so much for making that logo! It turned out fantastic!

Add me to the list of people who dislike the new doors and windows. Too BASIC for me, I'd rather have the old-style ones from the 80s-90s.

I have uploaded a higher resolution photo (.jpg) in my brickshelf folder. A .bmp is in there too under the avatar folder (link in signature). If you need an even higher resolution scan, it may be awhile because I don't have a scanner. I'm surprised you didn't know the line, though I didn't either until I discovered websites like Peeron (and spent a lot of time randomly browsing there :-D )

Yes, it is. 1772 Airport Catering Truck is one set with it; it's also in 1773, 1774, 1775 and 1818, amongst others. That logo was used by all the airline promotional sets of the 1990s and early 2000s. Probably in more sets than the classic airline logo now that I think of it. Good straight-on pictures of it are rare, I've found. My avatar is actually a photo of the piece with it from 1772!
-
Great work Oleth! Any chance of making the airline logo like in my avatar? There are multiple versions of it I've found, with the yellow circle (assumed to be the sun) either in front of or behind the green clouds. I consider behind the green to be the correct version as it's more common in sets.
