Welcome to EB; if you like the detectives office, you should probably pick up the other modulars that are still available before they're discontinued. I know you may have other reasons for liking it, but trust me... you'll probably regret missing out on other modulars if you don't get them.

Ooohhh.... Pandorum is a very under-rated movie; it has a horror slant to it, though, so if you like something like Aliens you'd probably like it. Of the other ones, I've also seen Sunshine, and thought it was really good, too.

Yes.... you can make the search location permanent for wanted lists, but for some reason not catalog or other searches? It should just be one of you settings for searches that sticks.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 14 Rumors and Discussion
fred67 replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I don't care. We're talking about what we would like to see in a monster series, but also with the understanding that these are not being marketed to us. I don't like when people take that tact... we're just discussing the latest series and, in this case, the potential we think they missed out on. There are several figures I do like in this series, even if I will have to change out some parts. It's just the worst, IMO, since TLM... maybe even worse than that. With the exception of TGB and TLM (and Mr. Gold), I have the full collection of every other CMF made (including some of TLM), including the Simpsons, in custom displays - I like collecting them and showing them off. I'm allowed to be disappointed, and I'm allowed to discuss that disappointment in a discussion forum... that's what it's here for. I think it has more to do with different cultures.... some places just don't celebrate Halloween, and few places celebrate it like we do in the U.S. and some European countries; I think it's more like calling the Christmas sets "Winter" or "Holiday" sets when they are quite obviously Christmas themed, even coming with Santa and Christmas trees. But I think you're right - it's quite obviously Halloween, they're just not calling it that. -
I want two - one for me, one for my friend. The mansion as a way to get figures is not going to happen. TLG knows what they're doing - they always manage to leave one figure for the most expensive set.

This is an old thread and we've been through the discussion before, but this thread is not about what LEGO might possibly actually do - it's called "Dream LEGO Licenses" because it's what you'd like to see. And I want to add, after having a grand old "debate" on the efficacy of Lord of the Rings and it's "maturity," lo and behold, TLG released LOTR sets. So there you go - come up with whatever you'd like to see, it doesn't have to be realistic... it's "dream" licenses.

No... not going to happen. I was hoping to get a mystery machine for both a co-worker and myself, but wanted to flesh it out with Daphne and Velma figures (she's been Velma for Halloween before). Not going to buy two mansions. Hoping a second series has her in a smaller set - maybe even a polybag, but I somehow doubt it.

I haven't seen oblivion, but I liked "Moon" a lot. I just watched some dumb horror flick called "The Town that Dreaded Sundown." It can safely be missed.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 14 Rumors and Discussion

Agreed; they've missed a lot of monsters and, as you pointed out, side-kicks and other counter-parts, like a Van Helsing figure, Renfield, or even Dr. Frankenstein. Again, I understand why they went the direction they did, but that doesn't mean I have to be happy about it; and this is a discussion forum, so we're just discussing it. I've long since stopped asking why people like a series - there's always someone who feels like they have a use for the figures, either whole or in part, and some people obsess over accessories. While I've seen a few interesting things, I just don't normally see it that way. I want good, whole figures. But I realize that's just me. The only time I cannibalize them is when I'm using multiples and want, for example, different heads or hair. like the luau show in my signature. -
So the only set Velma is in is the mansion? I won't buy anything unless I can get the complete crew, and I'm certainly not buying the mansion just for Velma.

It's just that, knowing SQL - and only as a minor part of my job - it seems like a pretty ridiculous thing that different sets can't match up parts; like one hand doesn't know what the other is doing... which unfortunately happens in large, disparate development projects (a back end inventory system being linked to a sales system). It's just one of those things that should be better.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 14 Rumors and Discussion
fred67 replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Well, first of all, every series has it's detractors and fans, but really what happens is most of the comments here have been positive overall - sure, some people nit-pick about individual figures or features of a figure, but that doesn't mean they don't like the series, or even the figure they're talking about (just commenting they wish it had been done better). That seems like complaining when it's really just discussing. But when someone posts something negative, it just seems to stand out... a vocal minority. Also, for all the gripes, you go back and look at all the reviews with polls, you'll see that, one after another, each series was rated as either "above average" or "outstanding." Of course, objectively that's not really possible.... they can't all be above average. So there's a bias towards "new and exciting." I don't like this series - when I heard about it being a monster oriented theme, I had high hopes. I know it's LEGO, but I wanted more serious monsters (like the previous series vampire, mummy, Frankenstein's monster, wolfman - even figures like the minotaur and gorgon... even the "spooky girl" harkens to the modern era of horror movies). I don't like this series overall because it's just too cartoony. Well, they geared it towards the kids... that's what they do, so I shrug and accept it. But I keep looking at this thread, because I still see some potential; there are figures I will get. -

And the vampiress isn't a vampiress, she's a spider lady. Whatever that is. -
I bought a few bulk lots off of ebay and bricklink; also picked up a couple at garage sales. That gave me a lot of miscellaneous minifigure parts. I have rarely bought sets for sets and not minifigures (like the Toy Story and Lone Ranger trains, because I like trains), and then have some figures left over. I will trade them for wanted ones, but generally keep them and will maybe some day make a huge display. As for the miscellaneous old figures, I now consider this a fun part of my hobby; where others mind find it tedious. I feel like I'm solving a puzzle when I try to find in the bricklink catalog the bits and pieces of minifigures that I have accumulated over the years, and figure out what figures they are from and, therefore, what sets. I put the parts to make them whole again on one of my wanted lists, and as I shop for other parts I need I can bulk up my orders with these seemingly random parts. I have two smallish containers - complete minifigures from sets (which is now completely stuffed, I need a new one), and incomplete minifigures from sets (I have only a few left, as I haven't bought bulk in quite some time). This is, of course, completely outside the minifigure displays I've made - I have two displays for superheroes, 7 for collectible minifigures (2 series in each display). In addition, I have sealed sets of all the collectibles and a large sterolite drawer completely filled with various loose ones that I thought would be fun for MOCs. I don't know why I started collecting figures.... I mean, CMF figures were obvious, and then I started displaying them in nice display cases. But for some reason, a couple of years ago, I decided to start collecting superheros. Not all of them - just the ones I liked (I don't read the comics, so am actually unfamiliar with a lot of them). Then I decided to make a Hobbit display, so while I like keeping those sets complete, I bought a bunch of figures to make up the company (plus Gandalf and I threw in Gollum, for fun). Sandy is absolutely right - it became addicting, and completing the miscellaneous parts I had has become a nice part of the hobby.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 14 Rumors and Discussion
fred67 replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
My problem is that they need to choose: A) someone in a costume (like the skeleton costume), B) a "real" monster, or C) Ambiguous. Because of the torso (or lack thereof) of the specter, it can only be a "real" monster... but they gave it a cartoony, mask-like face, as if it was a costume. It just doesn't fit. I am a bit disappointed in the series, overall, but then I'm a grumpy middle aged guy, not a 7-12 year old kid, so I realize they are trying to make a "fun" Halloween set, and not a scary one. -
Oh, I think we could have asked for better. At least with no printing on legs we can make him normal height. I like my gargoyles like the movie "Gargoyles." This one will be OK as a building counter-balance, but not as a scary gargoyle.

Bats eat insects. Maybe spiders are her favorite. No, I mean, I don't know, but look at it like this - maybe it's just a symbol, like Vlad the Impaler wearing a breastplate with a dragon on it. -
You're link doesn't work, because it redirects me to the page where you enter your age and select the type of part you're looking for, even if I'm logged in (and they already know how old I am). However, thank's for the tip on looking at other sets. It's too late for this time, but now looking for the best prices becomes that much more complicated because TLG doesn't know how to use a database, apparently, so now you'll have to look up all the sets a part was available in and search them individually.

I have seen the preview site, and also the list of things they're supposed to be changing, and I think this might just be a first step towards actually improving functionality, like making it more usable on mobile devices. The site design (with due respect to Daniel Jezek) creates a fixed area in which he forces things to line up a particular way; one of the points of HTML is to allow content to adjust to the user, not force the other way around... have you ever visited a site that told you do use a certain resolution? "This site best viewed at XxY?" Daniel did a great job on the back end at the time, and the site is popular because it's useful, but it violated a lot of web design guidelines (which exist for a reason). As someone pointed out, even their forum is like first generation web forums, and clunky to use. The problem with the redesign is that they have not fundamentally fixed any of that. At the same time, even huge sites like CNN.com have fixed widths... terrible, but CNN also has a functional mobile version. But I also think it's just a first step, and I think they may have changed a few things - like when you're looking at an item in the catalog and have the tabs below for colors and price guide, that it's meant to help mobile devices. Some of the other design ideas that are coming I think are actually to help usability and not just freshen the look. Let's be honest - as a computer programmer, I'm taking functionality over form any day, but BL didn't just look like it was from 20 years ago, it functioned like it (and still does, for the most part).

Snapshot I JUST took, from US BNP: bnp by Fred Haab, on Flickr As I said in my first post, I did skim through the PAB pages and got a lot of the Market Street bricks from there - I never ignore PAB, especially for "interesting" colors in large quantities. This arch was sold out when I checked a few days ago, and it's sold out now. As an update to my first post, another change will be that both upper doors will be left. The BL store I ordered them from had a mistake in inventory, and didn't have the right one, just two lefts. So I went back and looked at the pictures in the review and thought to myself that on a building like that there's no reason the builders would do one left, one right.... so I just figured it not only wouldn't change the appearance, but would actually be more logical anyway.

It's OK once you set the dark background, although that unfortunately only affects the non-used part of the screen. Frankly, it's different, which is what most people have a problem with - even if it were better, most people would gripe because they're accustomed to a certain way. Trying to be objective, I don't think it's any better or worse, just different, but I like to think they made some of the changes as a step towards actual usability improvements.

Currently? That post is from over a year and a half ago. The U.S. site does not have them at all.
