Eurobricks Raffle and Mystery Treasure Hunt
fred67 replied to WhiteFang's topic in Forum Information and Help
I thought of that, but none of the usual search engines would search img markup content... some of them would let you search hypertext links to see if someone linked to a particular site, but none of them would search img tags. For the record - the Spartan was the hardest for me. The witch took a lot of time - I missed it the first time, and it's like on the last day of the game, which I read through twice from the beginning. Looked like a fun game, though. -
Trading Collectable Minifigs Series 1, 2 and 3
fred67 replied to danim's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
All the ones I have listed as "open, complete" are even still in the bags, just with the tops cut off so I could make sure I was reading the barcodes right. "assembled" means it's out of the pack and has been assembled, but all the parts (including extras) would be included... this would only matter if you wanted both, as I'll send the sealed ones first. Have: Series 1: Magician (assembled) PENDING Luchador/Wrestler (open, complete) PENDING Spaceman (open, complete) Crash Test Dummy (open, complete) Nurse (open, complete) PENDING [*]Series 2: Mimes (x2 sealed) Ringmaster (x2 sealed) Patrolman (sealed) PENDING Surfer (x2 sealed) Lifeguard (x3 sealed) x1 PENDING Skier (1 assembled) PENDING Weightlifter (x2 sealed) Disco Guys (sealed) PENDING Pharaoh (sealed) PENDING Edit: bounties withdrawn, but if anyone wants to trade anything (other minifigures or not... interested in Trains, Star Wars OT, Castle) for any of the above, let me know. -
It's hard to objectively determine the value of a set, although I have my schemes, too. While you've probably already realized this already, merely counting pieces and then calculating whether or not the set passes some price/part ratio is only a wild ballpark figure. For example, the X-Wing minis available at Target earlier this year were a fabulous bargain... I forget the numbers, but it was like 50 pieces for a couple of bucks. But then, every single piece in that set was TINY. I'd built them from instructions before it was even released out of my stock. What I generally do is I place a value on the minifigures... say, $3/each for a classic Star Wars character (I don't count "cheap" figures like battle droids), then take off, say, 5 pieces per minifigure, and then recalculate the price per piece. As an example, I was disappointed at Luke's Landspeeder being $25.00 MSRP (disappointed, not surprised), until I figured "you know what? you get FIVE classic, desirable figures..." suddenly it made it a lot more worth it. But even on top of that, you have to judge how many decent pieces you are getting compared to little common pieces... on top of all that, even if you miss your ratio, the value is subjective... some sets might be worth $0.10/piece to you, some might be worth less, some might be worth more. I'm not a big fan of the PT or Clone Wars, so demand a much better price to make me interested... OT sets, though, I'm willing to pay a lot more for. And my last thought: while it's a cool ship, I still have to laugh at $50 MSRP for the TIE Defender with all of 300 pieces and only two generic figures. I will never pay remotely close to that. It'd have to be a GREAT sale. But then, that's my subjective opinion.

... ... Not a big fan of Atlantis, but it looks like all you Spartan collectors are in for some pretty cool sets that you can use... but I think grooved round bricks to make a column sounds FANTASTIC!!!!

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 3 discussion

That still sounds awesome... Some people had their zombies or forestmen from series 1... Some had their spartans from series 2... I know what I want in series 3. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 3 discussion

Must be a "24" MOC! I'm repeating myself, but expecting the other thread to get shut down... I can't wait to see the baseball mace. I think that would make the game worth watching. I would love to see that, but I'm somehow doubting we'll see the White Tree on the shield unless TLG feels like getting sued. Maybe a tree... but not the White Tree. -
Sorry, I know it's just lost in translation... but I can't wait to see the baseball mace!

When I actually click through to items, the prices are correct, but I found this really funny.... it's still doing it as I write this, I refresh the page and get a new items on the bottom with x100 prices. Edit: here's what I got when I refreshed the page: Edit: Oh... they fixed it. Oh well.

D'oh!!! You got a witch! Glad to hear it... I ordered two from a BL store before I got any random figures from S@H, but NONE of my Targets (x4 now), TRU (x2) or LEGO Store had ANY figures. Outside the contest, I want to make a larger "Witches from Hamlet" vignette. To this date, I still have yet to see a pack in a brick and mortar store, the only ones I've seen I got online. That said, in the spirit of the thread, I tried to order 16 more from S@H, and so far they haven't complained. It's been a few weeks, so maybe they let it slide... but I'm not holding my breath. To bulk up the order so that I didn't have to pay shipping, I also got: Wizard (x2) Jester (x2) Prison Carriage Rescue (x2... to make a large wagon) Outpost Attack

Eurobricks Raffle and Mystery Treasure Hunt

With all the clues about the witch (did you see the extra clues?) I can't understand how anyone would still have a problem... the last post by DarkFang practically hands it to you on a silver platter... yes, there's still a number of threads you might have to look through, but it's there! -

My help is this... it's non-specific, so hopefully it's OK... use Google, and not the board search engine. Limit the search to eurobricks by using "site:www.eurobricks.com" in your query. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures General Discussion
fred67 replied to Nabii's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Me too... I actually have checked 3 Targets, now... and two TRU stores... nothing. One of the Targets is a "Super" Target and wasn't arranged like the others. Any suggestions in the Atlanta area... specifically close in Gwinnett, would be appreciated. -

I'd offer suggestions for improving your search, but was already admonished once in this thread... -

No, it just means cralegoboy seems to have gotten a lot of it... since I'm doing the witch, too, I thought I'd add my two cents... -

Not to jump on the bandwagon, here, I hope these are useful comments and suggestions, as someone who is also submitting a witch MOC for category A (I built it last night, but need to take pictures). First, while you're not allowed to use the witches hat (which is a new version of the wizard hat), you could use an older wizard hat (in black) sitting on the pile of goo... that shouldn't violate the rules: EDIT: Second, while I like your MOC a lot, it seems to me to not really be in the spirit of the competition... one of the site moderators might get on my case for saying so, so they should consider this as more of a question than a complaint... it seems to me the MOCs are something that, given the figure, you'd put it in and it would be "at home" in the MOC. IOW, with the witch already melted, there's really no place to put the Series 2 Witch in that scene. After re-reading the rules, it just must "relate" to the character, so I guess there's no question. EDIT: BTW, I think it's a really awesome MOC... when the dust is all settled after this, if you do have the witch, you could put the torso on the green and have her in mid-melt. -
Some people have all the luck...(non LEGO related)

I notice that, too. A lot of people simply panic when they see a police officer, or are too busy trying to see what's going on instead of paying attention to the road. Yes, people are idiots. My father was a police officer... he rear ended someone who just did a hard stop for no reason. Now, that's no excuse... he was following too close or not paying attention, but when he asked the lady why she stopped, she said "because I saw a police car behind me." No... no siren or lights or anything, she just panicked for no reason. -

I'd say a lot of them are really IDIOTS. -
It looks great, especially for something a six year old did... what on Earth is "forbidden" about it? Looks genuine to me!

Another good post that I completely agree with... there is room for high end - this is true in every market. Barbie's cost more than most competitors, some car brands, some electronics brands... they all somehow manage, and so has, and so will, TLG. IF, IF, IF they took the low road and tried to compete at a price point against Megablocks, that would be the end of TLG, and it's obvious to me (and vexorian, apparently), that TLG wouldn't take that route.

I've seen some pretty cool lamps done with translucent pieces without having to destroy them permanently... A lampshade like that one... well... first of all, the colors are terrible, but I think if someone created a nicer pattern it could look a lot nicer. Secondly, I would use trans pieces... but that's the problem, trans pieces are so much more valuable (IMO), that to destroy them to make a shade that might not look too good would be a travesty. I'd rather stick to something like these (pictures are links): or As far as mangling technic pieces... the problem there is if you bend a piece to a new angle, the outside edge gets stretched thin while you are likely to get a blobby inner edge. Now, what's interesting to me is the thought of twisting one 90 degrees along the axis... a long enough piece so that the twist wasn't too severe could be an interesting piece.

Interesting thought. I've been staying out of the debate, but the tracks do have holes (for screws, not nails... and get your heads out of the gutter). I hadn't given it much thought because I don't currently have a table, but coming to the LEGO hobby from a traditional train hobby, it doesn't sound like a bad idea, and you can always unscrew it if you want to. I'm planning on using the O-Gauge modification for LEGO for the bulk of my rail when I do set up a table - not just because it's flexible and you can make larger radius curves, but for the straight sections, too. I imagine the best way to hold it in place will be to screw it down, and using a cork roadbed doesn't sound terrible... I guess I'd have to experiment, although which size prefabricated roadbed would work the best? And is it close enough to some multiple of plate heights so you can cover it? Ultimately, I don't think roadbed is necessary, although I'm not adverse to mixing some traditional model railroad elements with pure LEGO.... perhaps a foam bed with real gravel ballast would look good.
