And what happens then? Last year retailers sold out completely of LEGO train sets... and then we NOTHING until this past summer. I actually had to explain to the mom across the street why I had so many LEGO trains, and yet she couldn't go buy a set for her son. I think TLG is still "feeling out" the train community... I don't understand why it's so difficult, they keep either making way too much or way too little.

Agreed... I'd like to add that "stuff" happens... handling, heat (or cold) can affect stuff. If the BL seller has high positives, I'd give it the benefit of the doubt. If you are building, and the inside bags are sealed and it's complete, I wouldn't throw it back on the BL seller.

I don't know why broomhandle thinks it's junk; I've never used it - I don't know if it's junk or not, but it looks terrible, IMO.

Hope you had a great brickday..... uh, birthday! Hope you got some great LEGO sets!

The only time I had a problem was when I had too much weight in the back, or when I try to accelerated too quickly. But I've been pondering switching to technic coupling anyway, just to be more realistic (for some reason).

PAB doesn't work for me anymore. Well... that's not entirely true; I can look at ten items at a time, but I normally go straight to viewing up to 500, and now the page doesn't resize - the list of parts gets cut off at the footer on the page (which doesn't move).

I can't think of anything off the top of my head... I got most of the Fantasy Era stuff, so I'm pretty happy with the sets I have (although more minifigures.... soldiers, royalty, and towns-folk would be interesting); I'm also fairly happy with my Star Wars collection - I only like OT, and might consider a B-wing or TIE, but not interested in UCS (too expensive). It'd be nice to peruse what you have for sale. I'm looking through your other photos, assuming those things are for sale. Let me know if you come up with a list or something I can "window shop."

Pity it went so fast... I live in GA and am interested in the event the deal falls through, but I'll be a decent guy and hope everything works out for Notorious.

Yup... that's why, while I have castle sets, the MOC I'm working on is microscale... it's the only way I can afford to make it "substantial," (good choice of words), and the only way I have room for it. I do plan on combining a number of castle sets, but I don't have space... I have no idea when I'll be able to move, but I will never have the space I want in my current house. We've been planning on moving for some time, but conditions make it very difficult.

Ahh... it's not arguing, it's discussing... it's not like I'm demanding people not use any of these things, we're expressing opinions. But you don't use LEGO as a protective case, it's that the protective case has a place to attach LEGO... and people also don't wildly wave around their DSs (I hope) like they do a Wii remote, which actually has very limited build-ability, as Aanchir points out... 1x, and that it! And if you tried to put anything but a tile or plate, you really couldn't use it as a controller. I could build a whole vignette on the back of that DS cover (not that I recommend it, and it would have to be limited) and still use it to play.
-
I disagree, though. You don't take your Wii remote with, generally speaking. Now, since I don't carry a DS around or go to gaming parties, YMMV, but I think a customizable DS shell is a lot more interesting than a customizable Wii remote. And while I think the little Indy scene is cool, you could do any number of things and change the appearance at your whim. Now, you can do that with the Wii remote... but so what? It just sits at home on the shelf unless you're using it, and when you are the functionality is a lot more important than it's appearance. Meanwhile, I take my daughter to ballet or gymnastics, and before and after class they're all sitting their with their DSs playing Pokemon or something... and then your child (or you) could have a unique case. To be fair, I wouldn't buy either one, but I think the DS case is a lot less pointless.

Everywhere. Lately, while some people hate those collectible minifigures, they've given me the most inspiration ("What can I do with this one?"), and it's surprising how minifigures I didn't even care for while looking at the whole collection have become the ones that inspired me to make little vignettes. Official sets do little for me... while I love them, I'm usually not happy with the build (especially castle themes), and that inspires me to make better ones. I probably also do a lot of modding after building sets because I think they are lacking, or sometimes to just add something to make it more displayable (like the clear pieces to hold up flying quidditch players, since I don't really "play" with the sets). Other people's MOCs inspire me to an extent... I don't think I've ever wanted to duplicated someone's MOC, but a Eurobricks thread is what got me started on modular castles (and lack of space and pieces made it microscale). So... I don't know; I never know when something will hit me.

Well... I have Wii and PS3, and all I can say is I have to laugh at the PS3 motion thing. That said, having a Wii, and loving LEGO, all I can say about this remote is: pointless. I mean... really... pointless... what're you supposed to do with it? And then I'd be afraid pieces would come flying off when I was using it... it just makes no sense to me. But then I'm just an old fogey (who loves LEGO and owns a Wii and PS3).

Ahh... yeah... I just always go to "View New Content" so I never see it.

Any comments on the alternate build, yet? If someone got the alternate build instructions, could you post a picture of what it's supposed to look like?

I don't see a legend at the bottom of the screen. It would help me if the icons had alt tags so that when I hovered over them it reminded me what it meant.

Same stuff, different look... not impressed... indifferent is the word I'm looking for. Walter, the sales and deals is still there and still as crappy as ever.

Official Eurobricks Straightshooters List

Ditto for The Soup Nazi, +1; got my figs today, everything went great. Edit: +1 for Bunker, too. -
I have mixed feelings about writing what I'm about to write... while "griddy" is a great idea, and having been a programming hobbyist in the past (since it became my profession I don't do it much as a hobby any more), I understand the attraction to rolling your own because it'll do exactly what you want, and if it doesn't, you can make it do it because you're the programmer... But I hate to see what I consider wasted effort, too. The GIMP is available for virtually every platform. It's free. It's extensible, programmable, and there are tons of plug-ins one can find for it to do any number of things... while it's not photoshop, it's a very mature and well rounded image manipulation program that includes the feature of having a definable overlay grid. It has all the features of griddy - including measuring tools, zooming and panning, and includes so much more because it's a general purpose program - it supports many more image formats, layers, multiple windows... The standard height to width of a 1x1 LEGO brick is 6:5, so all one needs to do is edit their preferences so that the grid has some multiple of those values... or 6:10 for a 2x brick, or 6:40 for a 4x brick... 2x5 for a plate.... I could probably hack up a quick plugin to let one select the brick size and automatically adjust the grid... but honestly, this is where some programming hobbyist should spend his effort, not on reinventing the wheel. I could understand not wanting to write a plugin for proprietary software like photoshop, but not for the GIMP, which is freely available to pretty much everybody on every platform.

I feel the same way... I have one large display with one of each minifigure so far, but have extras of most of them to build vignettes and integrate into other themes. Realizing that I want at least two of each, and seeing how many I've had to buy randomly and then waste money trading (trading is great, don't get me wrong... but a figure here, two figures there, another one there... and I'm paying as much for postage as I would be to buy more random figures), so I will likely try to just get a whole box. I also want many elves. At least 10. A box will be a good start (at least three, and probably three since TLG gives you the least of what will obviously be the most popular).
-
I bought the four least expensive sets last week... built the quidditch match and Dobby's rescue, and this will likely be next... I have to admit that I must not have been paying attention - that Aragog looks terrible. I mean, I picked up the box, looked at it for a while, along with the others; I've seen the pictures for months and months... and I just never noticed how terrible it is. I suppose I was concentrating on Hagrid and the hut. Luckily I've looked up the old Aragog and I have the parts to make it, along with the newer brown parts as CallMePie suggests... The bonus is I get a handful of new swords to use with other themes! I want to thank who (whom?) ever at LEGO decided to make these sets... I missed them completely way back when.

When my kids were into Pokemon they each got a set of dice in containers that were PERFECT for displaying minifigures. The ones they got only had six sided dice, but the container was like this one (the card was an insert and not glued on): [ whiny website pic removed ] Holds a 4x4 plate on the bottom quite nicely. If I could find these boxes only for sale somewhere, it'd be great. I need to point out the obvious - these aren't "LEGO" compatible, they stack, but don't stay together like the boxes Fede78 is showing, but I'm not inclined to order from Italy, either. The kids gave me their boxes and I used them for a Chrome Stormtrooper and a Leia slave girl figures.

I agree. I never got the original set, and you have to ask how many of other ships have they made over and over again. But when I had the chance, I bought TWO TIE Interceptors 6206, with the intention of making one a regular TIE. I finally did it (years later), and really hated the blue sitting next to the latest TIE Advanced, so I pulled all the blue and make it gray and dark gray. I actually like it a lot... but an "official" set would be nice.

Finally put this together last night, and wanted to add my two cents (I haven't finished the reviewer academy, and I didn't want to do a complete second review anyway). First, for the most part, this set should be called "Five great minifigures with capes and brooms and a few other bits." Ok, just kidding, but it's quite obviously a minifig set. To be sure the goals are kind of neat... but it's not a complete Quidditch match because you only get one set of goals... another three would have been nice. Anyway, a few pictures: This cup is kind of cool... it's got a nice spot that a decal could go on, so it's surprising they didn't bother: Comments: What would have been nice? Three more goals. Yes, I know, there's not enough players, but I would have appreciated it anyway, as I display my sets and I think it would be cool. I will end up doing my own, but the colors won't match. I was actually considering buying a second set for more goals, to build a taller observation stand, and I figured the minifigures would probably return quite a bit at some point... I probably won't, but it's a thought. What the heck are those launcher things? I don't recall them from the movies, although I may just be daft. Yes, I figure they're the things that launch the bludgers, but for a playset it's pretty useless, and as a display set they're completely useless. I think they could have done a better snitch. Perhaps a 1x1 modified brick with studs on the sides and plumes... something like: with (different colors, of course) Overall, it's a great set for five classic figures. I'm glad I went ahead and got it (I wasn't going to). It's the first of the new HP sets I've put together, and I'm pretty happy with it. I showed my manager at work some of the little vignettes I made for the new collectible minifigures, and she offered to get me some new shelves to display them in my office... I think I'll take her up and display this set as well. I bought some dark green felt for the pitch, I think it works well.

I think the thread title got cut... and the innuendo possibilities are endless!
