  1. It would be interesting. It's a bit off topic in this thread, but seeing the popularity of elves, seeing elves and dwarves as the main "groups" in a new theme would be very interesting indeed.
  2. I know you were teasing, but I always wondered why a woman would want to go out of her way to identify herself as a woman, as if on a mostly anonymous internet bulletin board about LEGO it should really matter. I feel the same way about the female AFOLs they highlight in brickjournal. I guess the thing is that you don't reduce racism/sexism/classisms by highlighting how someone is different as opposed to highlighting how someone is the same (sharing common interests). In other words, it's a big deal because we make it a big deal, which only makes the divide seem larger.
  3. I would (I used a bunch of Sumos for the Luau), but I'm in the U.S. Damn LEGO for not giving us extra pieces.
  4. It looks great, but it seems while most people are complaining about the "cinched" waste of female minifigures, the reason it works so well in your picture is because of the white background. Otherwise, in a MOC, I would imagine it would look odd. It's not that I don't like it or think the design is fantastic - it most definitely is!
  5. I LOVE THE SAILS! Nice job, Tomcat. Unfortunately I'm not an experienced shipbuilder and can't offer help.
  6. Updated: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=41736&view=findpost&p=911713 Traded some, added some...
  7. Now that you mention it, the monopods would make sense (and probably be practically useless for you without the brown guns). Yes, two of those grenades, exactly. Will take the rest of the conversation to PM...
  8. I went through my heads and don't have that one. For the Fisherman and Tennis Player, though... I can tag photos, but it would seem more appropriate to make notes, and I don't see that option with your pictures (where I can actually throw a box around what I want.) Large Arms: I would like the two brown rifles. Small Arms: I would like both the large revolvers and the small (lower right) ones. Other: The knife... and two of the hand grenades (not the potato mashers, the "American" ones). Let me know. Edit: I've never actually done notes; do I need to be in a group you're in? Is there an EB group?
  9. Here's my thoughts... they're awesome, and a shout out from TLG for disappointing all the castle fans who were awaiting the elves only to have the theme updated to completely eliminate the possibility of getting elves. Remember the map with the elven territory on it? It was the only one missing. So I'm glad they did it, and it seems like no mistake they waited until after the first year of the new line before putting the elf in the CMFs to let the line get settled. Quite simple... have more than one. I've got about a dozen so far, and will keep trading for as long as people don't want ridiculous amounts for them. On top of that, I have many brickforge elf helmets and weapons, and enough heads and variations to make them unique. It's unfortunate to not have an official set, but I won't give up on the LOTR theme. It's true they perhaps don't belong in the list of factions (and neither do elves, really), but I will definitely have a faction of Samurai and Ninja as part of my medieval layout (that "some day" dream of having enough space and time to build one).
  10. You should reread the posts, then, because a lot of us are. Edit: quoting myself: "...what's that one on the left? Cleopatra? That's awesome!"
  11. No, not necessarily, the smaller guns in particular are not really worth all that much. What I really want is the revolvers, but I don't mind trading for a larger lot to get you what you want. I was more hoping to give you a selection of things to choose from.
  12. I noticed bricks tend to "creak" after being retrobrighted. It never bothered me, though... the connections always seem solid and the bricks are a lot nicer looking.
  13. I wonder if the gauge is compatible.
  14. I'm interested in the small arms. I have: S3 Tennis Player S3 Fisherman I will soon have a: S3 Hula Dancer I may have that minifigure head, but I'm at work and will have to check.
  15. Fantastic implementation. I've been arguing for some time that 9V could be modified to get the best of both worlds without requiring the complexity and expense of DCC, I've just never had the occasion to try it out. So, a big THANK YOU and congratulations on an excellent job... it's WAY more than I would do, frankly, many steps ahead of what I had in mind.
  16. The Length (in "LEGO" Units... studs.. 5L is five studs long).
  17. Got a grab-bag for the first time ever at my local LEGO Store; I could tell there was a pirate sail in it, and thought that was pretty good for a whole bag of stuff plus a sail, so I got it. When I opened it, the first minifigure right there on top (you couldn't see it without opening it) was the Squidward with the molded head. Quick BL search shows it's worth more than I paid for the bag (even used). The second figure was an astonaut from the Space Shuttle set... also worth about the same (over $8, although no used listed). There were a ton of pretty good pieces, too, I was pretty happy, although it's not the greatest find I've ever had.
  18. No, it was the manager, but she wasn't there this morning. So I got a box of 2x4s... 645 for $70, just under $0.11 per piece beats BL in quantity, and that's for brand new, so it's a decent deal.
  19. I think the thing is there's a "regular" version and a "limited" version, the limited has the numbered certificates.
  20. Having a 9 year old daughter, the first thing that comes to mind is... don't push. If she wants to play, she wants to play. The majority of LEGO in the house is mine, but the kids have some of their own, too, but only when they ask for it. When she was younger, my daughter would pick purple and pink bricks from the PAB wall at the store, so despite me not interfering with what she picked, she still liked pink... but not just pink. She likes the sets with horses and animals, and every once in a while comes into my office at home, takes a big plate (usually the 48x48 gray one), and just builds on it... geometrical designs and buildings. A couple of weeks ago she did this for my birthday: Happy Birthday, in LEGO. by FredJH, on Flickr The fact is, there are differences between boys and girls, it's not simply a matter of gender typing. We let her do what she wants... she refused to do martial arts, but wanted to take dancing and gymnastics. I didn't argue one way or the other over dancing and gymnastics, but my wife and I both told her we thought martial arts would be great, but she simply didn't want to (my son had been doing it for several years). So... I think LEGO can certainly appeal more towards girls. I would bet things like a Veterinarian set and a lot more animals would be great. I recently got several pig farmers and she just wanted the pigs. Like others, she also liked the CMFs, but not limited to the girl figures - she got the Zombie, Mummy, and Ape Suit Guy, too.
  21. I've never bought one of those boxes. As it is right now, I've still got 4 "free" boxes from before Christmas, so it makes little sense to pay when I can fill those for free. However, last time I was there, the manager took a real disliking to me. I don't know what I did, I was just standing there filling my box. Of course I was putting pieces together to try to fit as many as possible, but I'm sure that's very common. Before a word was even spoken, I was helping her pick up some pieces that had gone on the floor from her dumping the box into the holder on the PAB wall. At one point I asked if they sold the boxes separately, because I'd heard that some stores don't, and she said "yes." So as I was going around the wall I asked if she had the 2x4 brown plates they had in a box... she didn't even look, she said "no." Ok, how about those 1x4s? No. What about these? No. Those? No.
  22. With over 1000 responses, it would be cool if the links to "allowed" images be edited into the first post.
  23. "The Runes of the Earth," by Stephen R. Donaldson. It's the first book in the third (supposedly last) trilogy of "The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant."
  24. What retailers received the picture? I thought it was on S@H Website... it's just the one picture, and it's not a photo of a catalog, like we see with other sets. Of course. I was even getting them from LEGO Education before TLG started selling them separately again (although you had to buy a bunch of other stuff to get one).
  25. We're still not sure we'll be able to buy this, are we? The Maersk Ship is just awesome, and I'd love to get it except that in considering finances and the themes that I like the most (and what else is coming out this year), I was going to pass - but if I know I can get the train when it comes out, I would really prefer the combo to have on a layout.
