I can't wait to see more pics, and I love these last MOC's that are building smaller ships. The Damnations of the Sea and The Red Peril are pretty much awesome for MOC's IMHO. Once more pics are up, I'l give you more feedback, but right now I love this ship!
-
I like it, though hopefully once the folder goes public, there will be more pics. On thing that looks kind of odd to me is the sterncastle, it seems a bit high, and from the pics right now, I can't really see if there is a way to get up. Otherwise, a great ship. I love the sails. *y* for playability *y* for design, provided there is a way to get to the top of that sterncastle.

I'm sure there is someway to force them to work with lego, but the peg and brick height are not the same, so it might be a rough go. I haven't actually tried to combine them with me lego, I don't really feel like tearing apart by BSB just to add bestlock to it. If that bestlock ship is the older, large one, you should be able to get a pretty penny for it on eBay. I almost bought one, but the shipping from the UK was a killer!

I've built two bestlock ships, and they arn't the best. They've been on display for about 6 months now, and the bricks are starting to seperate from each other. As well, they don't fit together all that well, and the masts are done just horribly. Also the minifigs look stupid! Other than that, they arn't too bad, espically for target pratice for superior Lego ships :-)
-
My initial reaction to a project this size is that its too big for my liking. This ship, however, shows how a large ship can be made, while still keeping it playable. Unlike that massive Galleon in another post, this ship looks great and has open access to most areas of the ship. So far, I like it, and I usually hate bigger ships! *y* for playability *y* for design and look of the ship. Keep it up, I can't wait to see this thing finished. P.S Love the homemade cannons
-
This ship looks great. Not too bulky, and only one gundeck, which I like a lot better than larger ships. It looks like, to me, the sort of large ship TLG would release to the Imperials, with a slight reduction in guns, finally giving them a proper ship. *y* playabilty, *y* overall design of the ship

Well, my vote is for realistic. It might just be my history-major mindset, but I can't really think of good "monsters" to use in a pirates theme. The Kraken is more a viking theme, skeleton crews could go anywhere, there isn't really that much, other than mermaids, and as was stated before, the lack of any diving gear for those poor old pirates limits that theme. On the other hand, expanding into the native theme, could bring about some fanatsy elements. Toned down for playability, the Aztecs and Incas would be a great addition, and allow for some great expansion. I'm thinking El Dorado-esque large set, with temples and others as well. An expansion into the major powers in the Caribbean would also be a great boon, as there would be expanded Spanish sets, Dutch, French, etc. (In my book, the blue coats are British naval personal, while the red coats are British army :-) ) While, thats my 2 cents :-)

Pirate support in the lego.com board
texas_jack_can replied to texas_jack_can's topic in LEGO Pirates
In a word Mr. Phes, yes. That doesn't mean Lego will never release any other pirate line, but I don't see it happening anytime soon. In my mind, its pretty pigheaded of TLG, if this is indeed the reason they won't. Hopefully it isn't, and all it will take is seeing the sucess of Megabloks etc, and Lego will head back in the right direction, as long as their pirates arn't like the jellybean knights of KKII. -
Hey, yeah I did buy 6277 off you. Thank you again, I am really enjoying it!

Pirate support in the lego.com board
texas_jack_can replied to texas_jack_can's topic in LEGO Pirates
I am with Phes on this one. I've always felt movie themes and lego should be left to MOCing. I could just see The Black Pearl and The Flying Dutchman with 4+ hulls, those ugly cannons they have now, and all the pale minifigs, it just wouldn't be right. Hopefully Lego will follow Mega-Blocks move, and develop a new pirates line, but I'm almost thinking TLG won't, at least not right away. For a company that invented the plastic building toy, I can't see them following the lead of an "upstart" competitor! :-) -
I can see how much work went into this ship, and I am trying really hard to like it, but it is just way too big. I know Galleons are massive, but this is too big for a lego ship in my mind. The playability of TLG ships, and other MOCs, combined with good looks, make for a better ship IMHO. I would think access to the lower decks on this MOC is very, VERY limited, and for me it loses a lot of what makes Lego, Lego. Props to the builder, don't get me wrong. This person has serious skill, but I think its too much for lego. *n* for playability, *y* for the massive amount of bricks, time commitment, and skill for building it.

Pirate support in the lego.com board
texas_jack_can replied to texas_jack_can's topic in LEGO Pirates
Berry, the way I see it is that TLG is concentrating more on other sets, KKII for example, than have a real go with the Vikings. I could, and hopefully am, wrong on this one, cause Vikings for me are the new pirates. It just seems after last year, with a full line release, TLG could get a sense of how sucessful the line was. This year with two sets, it doesn't look promissing. Of couse, it is still only July, roughly half a year left, and I am hoping you are right, but I just have this feeling deep down in my stomach that Vikings won't continue. That last sentence had WAY too many commas in it. And speaking of Star Wars, I'd really like to see how *vader* and *yoda* would actually do trying to survive on the Spanish main. Probably not too well if you ask me. *skull* -
Pirate support in the lego.com board
texas_jack_can replied to texas_jack_can's topic in LEGO Pirates
I like the Viking line too, however it looks like TLG is going to let it die out rather than develop it. Words can not describe the joy I felt when I open the Viking ship box, and saw the classic old hulls in there. It almost felt like building a systems pirate ship, aside from the the fact it is a galley and not a ship. I got a real kick, and a headache, reading that thread on TLG message board, the argument about the imperials went on forever, even after many people explained the difference. Oh well, to be six again I guess... :-| -
Pirate support in the lego.com board

Indeed, reading that message board was a chore, but the school computer labs are pretty dead today, and its not like I have anything else to do, studying aside of course, but that is best left to the last minute :) At least there is a general intrest in pirates, thank you Pirates of the Caribbean. Even the young ones raised on Jack Stone and Alpha Team think they would be a good idea. -
Wow. I was reading a post by Phes where he was talking about posting on the lego.com boards, and decided to check it out myself. There is support for the return of the pirates line, but thankfully some of those posters don't post here. For three pages there was a dicussion about how the Imperial Guards could eaisly beat the pirates, because they had laser guns and their ships could fly! *wacko* Anywho, just thought I'd let everyone know there there is support for Lego Pirates aside from our small group, but most of it isn't the kind of support that would be helpful to reaching TLG in any way. And now for everyone's reading pleasure, a quote from Lego.com's message board " THE IMPERIAL GARDS R BACK!!!!!!! IN THE new STAR DESTROYER AND THEY HAV THEM IN THE IMPERIAL SHUTTLE!!!!!" " well how about that there was a IMPERIAL ship then there was a PIRATES so the PIRATES fired there cannons hit the IMPERIALS then the imperials are so mad that the imperials fire there laser cannons"(I removed all the smiles from this one) Anyway, if you do go decide to read/post anything there, be warned, basic grammer and spelling are optional, and anything "Imperial" is Star Wars related!

Buying Pirate LEGO - where to buy, advice, tips and questions
texas_jack_can replied to Mr. Smee's topic in LEGO Pirates
I can see it now: "Hi, just saw you spent $450.00 on pirate lego, please come to this site" That could cause some people to think it is spam, and just ignore it. Too bad there isn't a way to advertize on eBay effectivly, cause we could really open up the fanbase. Of course, for all we know, its just us buying up all the pirate lego off eBay. I doubt it, but you never know.- 502 replies

An Offical Hello and thank you eBay

Ironhook, Don't worry about it. Typing doesn't convey meaning very well, and on my part, I've been stressed lately. All I need is a good, large lego set to build, but alas, can't find any good ones on the shelves. :) Thats pretty interesting that TLG actually has someone who looks at these boards, most companies could care less as long as their product gets sold. Congrats TLG for doing something right, reading what your fan base is saying. Now bring back system Pirates! *sweet* -
I'll rush out and buy my lotto ticket too! Two tickets are better than one, right? Although some of that should go to student debt... nah!
-
I notice the Krakens Whip in the background of that shot, what you could do, although it might involve the dismantling of the rest of the fleet, is build two 2nd or 3rd line ships. Two sister ships patroling the seas etc etc, I'm not much of a story teller :) Just a thought, although I think either way, the project would require a ton of brick investment.

Actually, I had two term papers and two finals this past week, sorry, but real life got in the way >:-( I'm here, but not really sure what it is I can actually do. Does TLG read these message boards, looking for what their customers want? If so, I'll do my best to post more, time permitting. -
I got a 76%, I think I need a life!

The sheild in question is actually from the set, not a custom add. There are two of them infact! I hope to be posting well into the future, and indeed the first step is a camera. Does anyone know how to take shots with a webcam? I've got one of those kicking around, and could use that in the meantime.

Well Phes, count me in. I may be a poor university student from Lethbridge Alberta, but whatever I can do to get SYSTEM pirates back on the shelves, I will. -
Well buying lego is taking a fair chunk out of the ol' student budget, I am defiently not rich enough to go about MOCing a larger ship. Cutters and small bases are pretty much what I can do right now. Give me a year or two, and you never know...
-
I would love to Phes, but the ship parts count is pretty low right now, I don't think a dino attack helo would do a 17th galleon any justice. I have some ideas, and will take a look at her once I get home, see if anything comes to mind.
