Rear entry door - its a bit more ATR based than DHC8-400

Major problem with Art Deco is that, in this part of the world at least, most Art Deco buildings are white. And only white. Its also a very minimalist style so very hard to represent in minifig scale. I'm pretty certain that this would be a contributory factor to TLG not doing a purely Art Deco modular. There's a lot more than just cinemas and massive office buildings though, these are a few from Dublin - a car dealers, a tyre factory (!) and a much smaller office. This one's a reproduction as the original building was knocked illegally, but it looks much the same Only a facade left and integrated in to a department store... starting to think we don't really treat them very well here! Kodak Ireland, as was

Aer Lingus still has these in stock, and likely will for an age too. They usually change over to the 'new' airline exclusive a few months before the *next* one comes out.

Is your computer 20 years old? Anything produced after about 1996 will be able to handle 2D images competently.

Would be accurate enough here - the City Council moved out to a new building in the 1980s and the old one is a museum! I keep intending to refit Fire Brigade as a nightclub as that also happened with the central fire station when the new one opened (next door).

Massive Steve Buscemi fan?

Got this today, think the back rotor/engine turret is a bit loose compared to the rest of the set being very solid...

Hospital is effectively a small GPs office with a helicopter... An actual hospital would realistically require two full 32x32s and multiple stories so I don't think we're ever going to get that in City. A classic style in the modular line, perhaps.

In a lot of Europe, the ambulance service is owned by the local or national govt. along with the hospitals, e.g. NHS Trusts in the UK and the HSE NAS in Ireland (Except Dublin where it's the fire brigade doing ambulances for history reasons).

Other post suggest the quota for a request for a reissue to be considered is 1000 not 10000. Lego doesn't benefit much from the resale price being high, as I doubt the number of gouger-purchased sets is massive. They would benefit from selling more. -
Its an EMD made in, erm, possibly Canada actually but the older Irish EMDs were Detroit

Much as I'm unlikely to buy the sets, a lot of larger cities do have something close to a forest, or at least a park requiring rangers. Dublin has the Phoenix Park which is very close to the city centre for instance Orange fireman = civil defence here. Might buy some for that seeing as I'm a former member...

What is your favorite Service Station in Lego City
Cian replied to lightningtiger's topic in LEGO Town
I still have 6378 in a modern town layout, its probably aged the best of any of them. I'm halfway through getting the bricks for a MOC of our large national service station brand which may displace it though :( -
A bit off topic, but I'm loving the 121 Push-Pull there! Pre dark ages I used had an 'underground' in the corner of my layout, which wasn't much lower than said layout (it was on the deceased top of a mini snooker table on my floor, so maybe 4 inches), had to build up the height of the station to make the 'tunnel roof' go over my single train.

This to me just screams of being 6543 with less stuff. ~200 less pieces (OK, 6543 had brick built boats) for a similar enough price here inflation wise - IE£45 in Smyths in 1994 for 6543, €90 for 4645 there now. Long core section with road area, check Pier off perpendicular, check Pickup truck, check Crane, check Big boat, check

The modular buildings are no more or less independent than the trains. Each is a standalone set.

Thanks, I'll decide what to do on the day as I've also now got my eye on the Maersk train....

Right, I'm going to be in the UK very near a Lego brand store, but without my usual car with me to haul stuff back. I've got nearly all my cabin baggage weight for a plane left free, though... What physical volume are the bags in the Grand Emporium set like? And are there any large bits not in them (I'd presume a baseplate - even if that did snap in transit, I have many spares!). I'd be deboxing the bags and dumping the box straight away, it'd never fit in in the box - I did try last time.
-
Its also available in supermarkets but not toy shops in Ireland, strangely enough.

Done a lot better than my quick hackup to the same length - I'm short the extra wheel arches and had to do some serious thinking to get a chassis that didn't break in half when you moved it! The shorter size is used for anything except main road service areas here, so for a small Lego town its ideal.
-
As I said: Need to get another set of white wheel arches, but thats a shunted version just using parts from the set itself. Looks and feels much more to scale for a home heating oil or standard petrol station delivery truck - the original one sems to be conflicted between a petrol station (the pump) and an airport truck (the box art)!
-
Might not be the place to ask, but seeing as theres a few that have clearly built it here - is it normal to have a MASSIVE number of spares left over when building the standard set (two instruction books). I've 6 2x10 tan bricks, a 1x1x5 tan support pillar, a 6x2 white plate and some other bricks - as well as the standard extra cheese, plates, etc. And a red minifig-compatible cup which seems odd for Creator? Are these for the other models or have I just managed to miss a massive step in the instructions - and still get a standing model!
-
Bought this today, agree that the trailer seems overly large. Most if not all of the parts are there to compact it down to to a rigid with two of the tank segments though - something I'll take a go at shortly!
