  1. That'd be one way to make sure you're remembered anyway! Ultimate sales/medical rep toy if they became generally available.

The "Jan 2010" sets are on smyths.ie finally (Smyths are Ireland's only first-string Lego retailer, what with having neither Lego stores nor TRU) and the ones I've checked are showing as in-stock at my local branch. AND I got paid tonight, which means I should have the utility repair truck, Octan tanker and city car (to be rapidly MOD'ed to look more like my own Panda than a Smart) tomorrow The fire helicopter is already being shown as reduced to 25 euro from 40 euro, which is a much more realistic price. Repair truck is 11 euro, city car 4.50 euro and tanker 18 euro which I think compares well to other European prices? The new fire station is 75 euro, so its definitely getting ignored!
  3. I assumed I was the only person who went to the bother of right-hand-drive'ing all their Lego vehicles, including the bus (probably the most fiddly set to do it to so far). Clearly not! Intend to MOD mine to look like a Dublin bus at some point - take out the middle door and put blue around the base. Our buses are mostly yellow as is thankfully!
  4. Ew, modern technic.
  5. Automatic crossings on narrow back roads in Ireland (as well as some of the 1980s automated ones along Dublin's main high capacity electric heavy rail line) are full width single boom, with advance warning lights. Double-sided half-boom with much bigger light arrays are significantly more common though!
  6. Hello, my name is Cian and I'm an AFOL, it seems. 22, live near Dublin, Ireland. Had a massive Lego layout when I was a kid, mostly very square, colour-mixed MOC houses/shops made from 70s/80s sets my siblings had had where I'd lost the boxes/instructions and 80s/90s sets alongside them. Some passed down, most bought myself including getting brought to Windsor just after it opened. Also had a rake of classic Castle (including 6805 and 6080 with lots of additional modules for each castle), but this was all my siblings originally and I never used it much... and I had a fair bit of Technic, again all passed down from siblings and a family friend. "Grew up", gave them all away. Got back in to Lego a few years ago, have managed to get most of the 07-09 City sets at this stage and I've started eBay'ing the odd set I used to have and want again or some of the ones I wanted from old catalogues but didn't have the ability to get when I was 11 and eBay didn't exist! I need to get over the pyschological hurdle of taking sets apart (noooo!) and start doing MOCs again, not having a massive pile of set-less parts anymore and also not having a Lego store for raiding PaB is a bit of a problem here. And I still remain convinced there was a bigger Shell station than 6378.... either that or sets looked much bigger when I was small!

I take it from the posts above about minifig design I'm the only person left who prefered when all minifigs had the same "taken a few Es" smily expression head? I bought the Community Workers set to ensure I got plenty of those a while ago...
  8. This sounds tempting, the only problem is I'm allergic to Dublin Airport AND Ryanair. And its 1850km, one ferry and one car-train to Billund from my house! Is it going to be worth a 3700km round-trip?
  9. Has anyone tried MODing the two "RC" trains to use Power Functions like the Emerald Night? I've got both of them here and seeing as RC could easily have started and ended with them, it'd be interesting to see if they work on the newer gear... The massive solid chassis are, I suspect, going to be a serious hindrance for doing this.

Oh well, not as big a nostalgia trip for me then! That said, I'm a hypocrite on that cause I hate one-piece chassis on 6 wide vehicles.
  11. I had my first missing piece in 19 years of getting sets last week - a sticker set; have one on the way from Lego now. I've received more than a few random extra pieces - I've managed to build a frankenstein minifig or two from leftovers!

Is 5899 using the classic one-piece car chassis I wonder - can't seem to get a parts list online for it. Lots of classic parts I didn't think I'd see again in it - the old wheels/tyres, the window in the house, etc.
  13. A quick flick across my bank statements online finds nearly a thousand euro to Smyths in 2009 alone. Then theres previous years, sets I bought in Hamleys, Tesco, Lego retail shops, Argos, Irish Ferries, got given... Theres probably 3 thousand euro RRP, not many if any of the sets have any special collectors value yet though.
  14. Red tractor would be everywhere here, even supermarkets. Ireland is *relatively* good for set availability. We have a big indigenous* toy shop, Smyths, who usually have all the common sets in stock, from every theme. Good luck finding anything unusual from City though (like, ooh, road baseplates...). No Toys R Us at all; and the usual limited selection of sets in Argos and Tesco. We've got Toymaster's like the UK also has but they vary wildly. Prices are generally very, very good. Smyths is cheaper for mainstream sets than the Lego store in Brighton - which the staff there found hard to believe! *Smyths have a handful of stores in Britain too, but they're from Ireland, HQ in Galway.
  15. Old fire station is in plentiful supply in Ireland still, should anyone be seeking it out. I found 7732 Air Mail in the onboard shop on the Ulysses car ferry last week, not seen that one *anywhere* except S@H. Was 2 euro cheaper than the Irish S@H price also!
  16. Back when I was a kid, I just assumed my town had spent all its money on police services (seeing as it had two stations and a mobile command centre for its 7 houses...) and that everyone had to go off somewhere else in the 6666 ambulance. With no paramedic. However now that I made the mistake of giving away ALL my lego when I was 13 or so and having to spend a few grand to get back to where I was, there's a bit of a problem brewing. Anyone think there might be a need for a minifig graveyard if theres no new hospital soon?
  17. http://www.smythstoys.com/lego-city/lego-c...cb-06f973de7942 Bought it in one of their physical stores (Blanchardstown Dublin) a few weeks back. That site delivers to the UK.
