pirate! of course! X-D It is a tan brick spanish style turret fitted with cannons. Something you might see in the carribean.

First check Vahkimetru's Imperial River Runner thread for the background story. I'ld do something like this

My main peeve was with the dragon wing sails, not the castles. personaly I like that aspect alot :-P It's like a small cog. I may end up replacing wings for real sails entirely They would be too expensive too use as mere targets. I will honestly try to find some element to use in mocs, but not very optimistic. I was able to use some castle douplo to make thick walls, and the shield for some kind of wall decor.

Iv'e designed a vignette usefull for castle, adventure, or pirate themes. A secret entrance/exit for a castle dungeon, pyramid puzzle, or pirate stash. the outer wall inner wall push the correct stone to open door open sesame! or from the inside pull right torch to open. inner workings, closed inner workings, open side view Enter at your own risk... mwahahaha *skull*

I'm a bit of a lego purist. I don't normaly like mixing lego and nonlego elements even compatable bricks. I do however like to make mocs as realistic as possible. I may try to make this dock in lego form. It'll be fun :-D

Here are some brick built hulls both of junks. You can't tell from the pics but I'm not quite happy with the brown junk's bow (too much empty space). I designed the sails before the release of the orient ship or else I might have used that sail instead.

I'ld rather call it the Flyin' Ducthman than Jolly Roger :-P It's just a hobby, but I was into pirates and ships well before the pirates of the caribbean fad. I am by no means an expert but here are a couple of reference sites I use. on sails and natical terms

I wanted to show another detail. This is the windlass.

I'm marveled! you so rarely see land based pirate mocs. It inspires me to get going on my outpost turret.
-
It's based on a Revel model "Pirate Ghost Ship." The ship's escutcheon says "Jolly Roger", but I think that is a little clich

I ordered him on bricklink, but he had to have come from 4758 - Hogwarts Express or 4757 - Hogwarts Castle. it has a unique shroud, for possible additional undead crew members. The 4766 - Graveyard duel set skeleton is green but has a black skull. It is on my wish list. The Harry potter sets have some excellent parts for pirate mocing yet the drumastrang ship is almost useless for pirate mocs unless you like the +4 style *n*

I thought of that while situating the masts. the mainmast may not have enough distance to allow the foremast sails to catch wind and such. That is why the mizzen mast is angled back(one of my favorate features). The addition of of hull is a possibillity, however I'ld need to elongate the stern and forecastle sections to keep the look I want. Maybe a rebuild with longer wider hull would keep the overall morphology and allow for ample mast spacing but alas I have no brown wide middle hull pieces. Pirates would have valued a small multimast vessle for trust to weight ratio and ships were usually rather crowded places anyway.

This moc has potential. with more apropriot parts you can build something really interesting. Not that this moc is uninteresting it can still be fun to play with just not as realistic as I'ld prefer.
-
I made a minifig just before you posted this, with some tatterd cloths(it's the first matehere. it's made of a troll's loincloth. I for one want to see your version, even it if really was a blatant ripoff. If you can improve a moc or show different ways of doing things, go for it. As opposed to people who show their standard set collections, unless it's a set review, does it have real value to other people?

Megabloks Pyrates and Pirates of the Caribbean Sets
ghoulrealm replied to Akkhraziel's topic in LEGO Pirates
I would rather buy douplo pirates than MB sets. They seem to have a similar aesthetic style, but at least Douplo has good quality plastic. -
I would say doomed to endlessly sail the seas in a noncoporial state best seen at night. They are made from quilt or fabric backing with tea staining. It's translucent material, far more durable than paper. The main royal sail is made from canvas.

There are a few areas where I comprimised stability for appearance, but playable if if youre not to rough with it.

SuvieD suggested I posted my own thread when I finished the ghost ship moc. So here it is I'll add pics and descriptions on this moc as well as others as I create them. Feel free to ask questions, request details, and use my ideas for your own mocs. That's why we're here, is it not? anyway on with details: This is the "gastly crew." The cabin boy, captain, first mate(I suppose he forgot he was weilding a cutlass and sliced his arm while reaching for the musket,) the helmsman, and in the background is the quartermaster and some crewhands. aft view The unfortunate helmsman on eternal duty. *skull* a better photo of the bow. forward view of sails starboard view of sails closer port view I tried to photograph the glow in the dark skull and crossbones painted upon the main royal. This is what I captured. I imagine it is all you see of the ship on a moonless night. additional photos here Thats all for now. Let me know what you think.

My favorite aspects of your ship are the color scheme, sails and the stern section. I'm a sucker for those inward curved peices. btw. I had conceived of similar ways of making and aging sails, but not incense for burning holes. That was brilliant! I was going to use a leather hole punch.
-
Now this seems like an interesting idea! Here we have a single wrecked ship but a grave yard full of them could be really interesting. How many ships do you think you'd put in your graveyard, Mr Ghoulrealm? At least four, as many brown hulls as i can scrounge up. Within a cove of the the largest isle i can manage.

Thats right! My brother put a diver minifig with a dagger in his tank. It ate the chrome off the dagger and left perminate little black spots all over the figure. also slightly bleached the overall colors. .. Maybe stick a douplo pirate set in there. That way you wont regret it, if it's ruined.

Ok, I have some preliminary pics of the "Jolly Roger" ghost ship. No sails and removed some rigging for a better view. Some of the pics are blury, sorry. I'll work on some new photos soon. port side aft view starboard side and a few more images here.
-
I'll post some disassembly pics on brickshelf soon, although black pieces are notoriously difficult to make out even in high quality photos. The rims are 3x3 radar dishes you could also use the viking shield and make a custom sticker for it. I was glad to finally see a good use of the shooter piece where it doesn't look out of place.

I'm allways on the lookout for new sets with elements applicable to the the pirate theme including undersea decor: Spongebob for jellyfish and gary for a sea snail or slug , Avatar's hang glider may be good for lug sails , and all kinds of goodies in Harry Potter "Rescue from the merpeole" set. I still haven't built much with em yet but I was thinking a ship graveyard.
