Heroica RPG - Quest #51: A Shanty for Science
-obelix- replied to CMP's topic in The Heroica Archive
"Well played master Melvin, that's why I don't gamble. That was my first and last time. Still, I would love to have tried your specialty..." Says Thalion with a slight sadness on his face, more then usual for an elf. -

Thalion looks surprised, "A game? Well, I not much of a gambler, but all right. Here's 20 gold." -

Thalion looked at Jules, "That is very poetic way to put it, but thank you, it answers my question." Thinking to himself, (To a degree...) He then turned to Melvin, "Well, you know how sailors in the taverns at the docks can be. I wasn't sure you were the man. Tell me, master Melvin, could you make us some of that famous dish of yours? I am willing to compensate your effort for it, how expensive are those special ingredients of yours?" -

Thalion bows slightly to each of them, "A pleasure to meet you! Master Melvin, would your specialty by any chance be sausages? We have heard rumors of a ship's cook that makes sausages of such taste that they prolong the life itself for those who eat them! Would you by any chance be that man?" Turning to Jules, "I am ashamed to say, but master Jules we didn't hear about you from the captain. Would you be kind enough to enlighten us of your position on the ship? We are not expert mariners..." -

"Greetings fellow passengers! Since we are going to the same destination, might as well get to know each other. My name is Thalion. What are your names, gentlemen?" -

Thalion follows his companions, quietly, with a worried look on his face. He remembered captain's worning about staying as short as possible in their destination. Has something already happened that he wasn't aware of? Has this place they were going to started working its dark magic? Still he didn't feel anything change. Then he remembered wise Nerwen's care for the well-being of others, and he made a silent wow to himself to look after his companions as best as he could... Thalion follows Arthur to the cargo hold. On the way there, he listens to De'kras explanation and replies, "Thank you master De'kra, that wasn't in any of the books or scrolls I have read. I have spent most of my time in our small, isolated domain, hunting and practicing the Art. Of course, we know of the gods and we worship them, but since we live in a secluded harmony with nature affairs of gods and even mortals are, WERE, of little concern to us. Recently more and more trouble seem to be appearing, and thats why we are encouraged to go out, and help the world in any way we can. We, elves, are sensitive to the suffering of the land; if it suffers so do we. And the more time I spend here, the more the land seems to be in suffering. So I am sure you can understand that I have to be a little concerned, but I will try my best not to jeopardize anything or anyone." With that Thalion bows a little and smiles to De'kra. -

Thalion remembered the initials B.D. from the logbook and asked himself "could those letters mean Babeleth Darklands or something connected to them..." He continued, "Well, I have to say, that will be my first time sailing that far away from Uland. Now, if you don't mind captain, I think we should go and check the cargo now. Duties and all that. We will talk more afterwords..." -

"Hah! That sounds convenient, and every time time they find something "harmful" they simply take it, right? We've heard that too. We too, seem to be getting less and less explanation each time we go about our orders, more then half of time it looks like we working blindfolded. Do you know who were you hired by to make a shipment this time?" -

Thalion continues speaking with the captain, "Yes, they do seem to be having a major hold of who or what goes out of their ports. Rumor has it that recent troubles in the Hovels happened because of them. It seems to be getting increasingly troublesome to work for them. Tell me have you had any, how should I put this, "unusual requests" from them? Fees running more then normal, troubles sailing out of port, special requests for shipping something for them, that sort of things..." -

"Thank you captain, I think we may chat for a bit, you know, get to know each other since we are going in the same direction. We can check the cargo later. Tell me, do you do much traffic through Bonaparte's ports?" Thalion tries to understand what the hobgoblin is saying, but he barely understood the mention of a fishing rod. -

"Your offer sounds very good, give me just a moment to see with my companions." Before he responds, Thalion whispers to De'kra, "Master De'kra does your compass point to anywhere other then this boat? To a warehouse perhaps..." OOC: I'll update Thalion's the answer as soon as Tanma gives his input, we shouldn't risk failing a quest. In quest time, should be no more then a few seconds. If De'kra says yes, then we are all in agreement and will go. This is just in case I cant reply formally. Different time zones and all that. -

"I can't tell you much, because we dont know it all, but I do know that this shipment is something important. Might be even off the books for all we know, but we do know it has been checked several times, and this was supposed to be the last one. Let me put it in another way, where have you received your cargo from?" -

"No, we are not Bonapartes per se, we are just hired by them, to help out with important shipments. And as for cargo, we would still like to check it, just to be sure. We are aware we are troubling you but we have our orders too, and you know how orders are if they go unfulfilled..." -

Thalion waits for Arthur to lead the party on board, meanwhile he whispers to De'kra, "Master De'kra, would you use that cloak of yours to scan the captain, the hobgoblin and the dwarf? Or other crew members, if there are any..." -

Thalion laughs, "Well, I guess all the taxes you paid have put you in high regard with the harbormaster. No, no we don't bring more paperwork for you to sign or demands for more payments. He simply sent us here to make sure that you and the crew are ready, and to check if the cargo is secure before you depart. May we come aboard?" -

OOC: You are right, sorry my bad, I thought I did, but I forgot to press the bald icon when I edited the post. Thalion picks up the dagger and the chest contents and hands them to Arthur, "Master Arthur, distribute these if you will, please." He then waits for Arthur to decide what will the party do next. -

Thalion's eyes opened wide at the mention of murder. "Master Arthur I am sure you must have your reasons, but killing a man just because he annoyed you is not a good choice. At least not one I can justify. This man did us no harm. However as master De'kra said there can be benefits to letting him live. If you think he can be a threat to us, then bind and gag him and put him with the cadets. Now lets get on with the task at hand. I could do it, but master Arthur you are our leader, please check the logbook. Meanwhile, I will check the chest and take that dagger (who knows when it may come in handy...) and its better to leave the harbormaster unarmed should he regain consciousness."
