  1. Make it an old one with patches and all. Great way to combine by example brown with tan
  2. Unlicensed, no doubt! I second that! I would love to see a minifig version of the Dalton brothers , I wonder how they would solve the 4 different heights of those guys And of course a Lego version of Ratanplan
  3. My girlfriend never played with Lego as a kid because her mom thought it was a "boy's toy" (this is kinda true ). Prior to coming out of my dark age* I told her about my Lego collection which was (and is still) stored in my parents attic. When I passed my driving test she got me 8132 Night Driver as a surprise. This was so sweet, considering she never played with Lego but knew how enthusiastic I talked about it . Soon after that we decided to rebuild my Black Seas Barracuda. Come to think of it, I think it was her idea . Now we build sets together. Since they are usually rather big (modulars and all), we each build one "side" of the model. We put the main baseplate and the instructions in the middle and we each build what's on "our" side of the instructions/model. Love is... Building a Lego set together She only warnes me from time to time not to "overdo it" (in terms of money and available space that is ) Love is... To warn your boyfriend not to buy too much Lego, but still enjoy building it when he does *I always considered buying the 5522 Golden Anniversary Set and Cafe Corner as the end of my dark age. Now I think I never actually had a dark age, I never stopped thinking about Lego, I just stopped buying sets.
  4. When I was a kid, I eventually settled for town. I have castle sets and (a lot of) pirate sets (the 1989 "series"), but in the end I liked town (including 9V trains) the best. Ever since I came out of my dark age, I try to stick to one (sub)theme to collect: I (try to) collect all the modulars, which I consider town(related). But I also buy the occasional city set that would look great with my old town sets like City Corner I'm considering to start collecting the farm sub-theme, just because it would look great with my "old" city sets. This, however, doesn't mean I won't buy any other themes. I bought Medieval Market Village and the Imperial Flagship is still on my wanted list. Therefore I voted 80%
  5. You'll still have to dust the case Because of our cat dust is a real issue for my Lego collection. I try to dust as much as possible using a swiffer dust cloth, but this is quite tedious. I think I'm going to try the canned air idea as well.
  6. That is a funny story My girlfriend is (still) OK with my Lego hobby, but this is even cooler. OK, back on topic: You know you are a fan of Lego when... ...a friend of you points out that the money you've spent on Lego since you came out of your dark age is worth a nice city trip or a small vacation and you don't mind.
  7. I will stick to Lego; brand loyalty, image etc... On the other hand, purely speaking supply and demand, a competitor of Lego wouldn't be bad. TLC virtualy has a monopoly, which is never a healthy situation. What's that? It sounds like something from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
  8. Ah! One of my favourite sets ever I always loved to see a review about this gem; great job The entire "economy" of my Lego town was built around this harbor. Combined together with 4563 Load and haul railroad I created a true intermodal transporthub (even though I didn't realise it at that time ) BTW, who voted (above) average ?
  9. I never saw this exhibition, but I can remember seeing that Lego factory in the Toy museum in Mechelen, Belgium. It was one of the first displays in the museum, was incredibly large AND was motorized! . Or... it was a MOC done by the people from the museum instead of this particular exhibition. Anyways, it looked great
  10. Overall looks/design is the deceding factor. If it looks good with my other sets, I'll buy it. (Since the majority of my sets are broken down and stored in my parents attic I rely on childhood memories ) Oh yeah, I'll buy all the modulars because I collect that (sub-)theme... er i.e. looks and design
  11. My oldest set is apparently 140 Fabuland Town Hall (1979) My oldest non-Fabuland set is 566 Basic Building Set (1981) I recently discovered while sorting my instructions that my oldest non-fabuland set is 6821 Shovel Buggy (1980) Woohoo! Classic Space! Thank you Brickset
  12. Wow, Sweden seems to be a scarcely populated country Either that, or in Sweden the six degrees of separation theory is centered around Lego Seriously, with almost 50.000 Euro () to spent, I would go bananas on S@H! *sigh* one must keep on dreaming...
  13. I totally agree! That's what Lego is all about. You are right, although the sets I've bought since I came out of my dark age are all on display . The built usually took me just a little longer than 15 minutes though My kids (which, for the record, I don't have yet ) on the other hand will use their imagination TLG is contradicting itself a little bit. I would really like to see scenes like the 80's and early 90's catalogs. They managed to show all the sets in cool scenes without relying on "non-existing-sets". Ah well, it may just be the nostalgia taking over
  14. Nice one! I even wandered "backstage"
  15. Wow, nice gas station. To me it has a sort of 80's-looks
  16. Cool, what are you studying in college?
  17. What a cool creation! Talking about an original gift I love the way you put the husband-to-be on his knees
  18. This set was the start of my (rather large) Police motorcycle-brigade. I count myself lucky to own about 9 classic lego police motorbikes (I guess I was born at the right time ). As a kid I had trouble finding stories or adventures for so many mobile policemen
  19. Ah! What a beautiful set I always wanted that set, just because of the colour scheme, as a kid, I just it! Shame I never got it, it would look soooo nice next to my Stunt 'copter N' Truck. I always thought them to be part of the same daredevil "stunt team".
  20. Cool, nice MOC! I like the brick built wave! BTW shouldn't there be a lifeguard to save that poor girl
  21. I really hope TLC will NOT release LOTR sets. If Lego would release a LOTR series, this is a realistic approach. Then I would be broke
  22. Welcome to EB! I think everything is so very subjective when you compare classic town with the current city set. When I was young (born in 1982) it was the golden age of Lego town. I'm happy to own sets like 6394 Metro Park & Service Tower, 6542 Launch & Load Seaport or 6689 Post Station. Although I collect all the modulars and other exclusives like Town PLan, it's "obvious" I prefer classic town. Don't get me wrong, modern city has beautiful sets. I bought the new City Corner, but partially I think it's because it reminds me so much of classic town You are right about that! We want more houses! We want more houses! We want...
  23. Wow, this MOC is insane! Not only highly detailed, but motorized as well and the easter eggs , you're a genius!
  24. A beautiful MOC indeed! If I had built a MOC like that, I would find it very hard to part from it. I would never sell it, I would show off on EB
  25. Such a beautiful set... Just a few comments on the Market Street discussion: -The colour scheme might not look nice on pictures, but in real life the navy and light blue look fantastic together, especially with the grey accents where the "paint" peeled off. -It's fully modular AND you can separate the building from the "market". This offers plenty of ways to arrange your layout; I put the market next to the Green Grocer and I consider it the outdoor part of the store, plus the tan of the market fits great with the colour scheme of GG. -I bought Market Street in a "panic rush" on e-bay when S@H announced it as sold out. I paid more for the set + I had to pay extra to get it mailed to Europe, but I never regreted buying it... A few weeks later it was back on sale at S@H *** Anyway, as I was saying: Such a beautiful set... Damn: Fire Brigade, Imperial Flagship, Grand Emporium (at least one ) ; So many sets still to buy Must... safe... more... money... But hey, do we really have to eat everyday? Interesting question... Don't know if TLC is going to share this info though Anyhow, I'm going to do my share and add at least one Fire Brigade and one Emporium to the sales figures... in a couple of months probably
