Update: I've added the left and right wing. Changed the color scheme (not entirely happy with it, but it's getting there). I had to alter the two arches because it didn't line up with the seven smaller arches on the first floor. I know it's an upside down build, but I wanted the arch where the train goes to be in proportion with the train. I also added the LXF file if someone want to take a closer look. I still have to lower the brick count, but that's for later. montparnasse crash.lxf

I'm sorry, I didn't know it belongs here. Thanks for the move. I'll post the LXF later.

This car is based on several vintage sports cars. It doesn't have steering, perhaps in a next model it will. The headlights are samurai helmets. I hope you like it.

This is one of my first MOC's I made with LDD. It's a brandless motorcycle with springer fork and airplane engine. I hope you like it.

I thought this was a working model of a vintage typewriter, you know, with typebars hammering. But this is cute. I like it!

@Anticyclone: that must be awesome! @alois: This is Scorsese's trainstation: This is the traincrash from Hugo: When you look at the first picture I posted, of the actual crash, you see one arch where the train went through and another one next to it. In Hugo there is just one arch. When you look at the etch in the PDF someone posted earlier, you see the other side of the crash. No clock tower. You can actually see appartement buildings across the street. Reading your post back, I think there is a misunderstanding. The station IS called Gare Montpernasse but the building in Hugo is fictive (although based on Gare Montpernasse). For my build, I'm this far right now: It's the double arches where the train went through. I've put two double tracks behind it for size.

You do that to? …when your feet are hardended from stepping on bricks. (I hate that feeling)

Long story short. About a year ago I perchased a DSLR camera. Through a friend, I joined DeviantArt. A website to share and appreciate all kinds of art. From sculptures to photo's to paintings. It's there that I saw a 3d rendering of a LEGO quad. The maker added text to the render, where he explained what programs he used. The first one was LEGO Digital Designer. It's free software so I thought:"why not." and downloaded LDD. I used to play a lot with LEGO when I was a kid, so it took me back on memory lane. Now I'm hooked on LDD. A week ago I had a few difficulties with a complex build, so I searched the internet for a manual. On my search I found EB and decided to join. ...So, I found EB through Google, basically.

Maybe not a bug, but I'm missing a piece. Where are the 2x2 turntables? I think the blue/gray version is number 4219825.

@RONENSON: That looks great, but a lot of artistic freedom. As for the color scheme, I think I'm going for the "Hugo" movie. I think it used to have a copper roof, so a nice green/blue roof with off-white and gray-brown bricks. Right now I’ve got the two big arches, through where the locomotive crashed. I might have to make it two or four bricks wider. Pics later. @Anticyclone: Are you making it in real life or with LDD? I’ve found a making off video of the Hugo train crash. Lots of details visable and I think the train resembles the actual train.

Thanks everyone for all the help. Now it's time to start building.

Hinge tool doesn't always work
Steven L replied to Steven L's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Let's see if this works. I added the LXF file. When I want to hinge the wheels, it doesn't work. But if I use the steering wheel, it does (when I'm zoomed in on the steering wheel). It's not nearly done, but I don't want to proceed only to find out I can't hinge when it's all done. Do I have to put the wheels in the desired angle before I continue, or is it salvagable? car 3.lxf -
When I met my wife, I had a 2,5m long chopper bicycle. Homemade, firetruck red with chrome brake lines. When we where married, I made a plywood stretched cruiser from my old mountainbike. After a while I sold the plywood bicycle and got me a recumbent bicycle. Meanwile I got into Steampunk, photography and a few other hobby's. I don't think my wife would mind if I was an AFOL, other than spending to much money.

I have seen that movie and the scene you mentioned. However, in the movie it's called Montpernasse trainstation, but it isn't. The real station didn't have a clock tower next to it. (the story revolves around the clock tower, so Scorsese took the liberty to add a clock tower. Wikipedia has a picture of the actual trainstation. JK: Very nice image too, but also way to big also for the new rules: image can be found here

That might be but waiting 30 years to make a Simpsons theme kit? I used to play with my regulair LEGO mini's and made up the rest of the story. Nowadays everything has to look as real as possible, leaving little room for a kid's interpetation. From a creative/educational point of view, I'd think this is a bad idea. (IMHO that also goes for Harry Potter, LOTR, Marvel Superheroes, etcetera. No offence. ) From a collector of LEGO and/or Simpsons, there could be a market for it.

LEGO Simpsons? I don't know. The Simpsons is from the late 80's. As in NINETEEN-80's. They should have done it 30 years ago, when the Simpsons where still populair. I mean, what's next? LEGO A-team, LEGO Buck Rogers, LEGO Knightrider? I think just a few Simpsons enthausiasts are going to buy a set. Besides, maybe I'm an oldfasioned guy, but what's wrong with making your own set from your regulair pile and fill in the blancs and inacuraties with imagination?

This MOC is made in LDD and based of a picture I've found on the internet. I don't know who's the artist, so unfortunatly I can't give credits.

Thanks for the info, The_Skirrid. I've seen a photograph of the other side, like the first etching in your link. But I haven't seen a picture from the inside of the station. It looks like a box car or baggage car. The link you posted shure put things more into perspective.

I’ve recently discovered Lego Digital Designer. I like the program and love to build with unlimited bricks. I like my builds to be more than just a static model. For instance, an engineer yelling at the boilerman or a bum in the boxcar. For my new project I was searching the internet for inspiration. That’s when I found this: JK: Very nice image, but way to big also for the new rules: image can be found here It’s the crash of a steamtrain in Paris. Montpernasse station to be exact, in 1895. This topic is about the build of this event. The two objects I have to investigate is the train and the station. I’ve found pics of the station, so I can build that. (only the front of the building, as I’m going to work towards the picture.) The train looks like it’s got one set of small wheels in front and two sets of gear wheels behind that. And a short backhead/cab. The tender is hanging and it looks like a passenger coach. So first up, the station façade.

Hinge tool doesn't always work
Steven L replied to Steven L's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Thanks for the reply. Right now I'm on a laptop that doesn't have the LDD file. I will post the file later. Meanwhile I've found out if I place two connector pegs in one line, it doesn't seem to hinge. When I remove one peg, the hinge tool works. Is that the modification you're talking about? -
Thanks. I haven't thought of the station platform. I was figuring out how to make the running gear work. It's 10 bricks wide, so on each side 1 brick wider than the track. I like LDD but I'm looking for a way to render it more realisticly.

This is a train I made a couple of days ago. No specific make or model, just made up from scratch.

Hinge tool doesn't always work
Steven L replied to Steven L's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Just a minute ago, I found out that the hinge tool sometimes works when I'm zoomed in on the object. Also, when rotating one part, the other part rotates the other way. Any suggestions?
