I love this set like a woman can love a rare jewel! This locomotive is a "must" for all 12 volts lego fans!
-
It's true! Ben Beneke's BR23 inspired me but the building instructions for this locomotive are a my creation: the locomotive is 6 studs wide and also the tender and the wagons. The rear-gear mount a medium size wheel an the three main wheels have extra-large size. The PF led-lights are a news and the rear and front gear have different shape and a new joint system to the main body. The boiler is similar but the BR23 has the same shape for everyone

Hi everyone, I always loved BR23 steam locomotive of my father’s marklin collection. Since I’m a great LEGO fan I’ve realized my version of the same locomotive with tender, caboose and two passengers wagons. I’ve utilized XL size wheels for the main body, medium size wheels (like that present in the 7750 set) for the rear gear and a normal size wheels for the front (all loco and tender wheels are maden by www.Big Ben Brick.com). The rear and front gear are free to move up and down as well as to the left and to the right My BR 23 locomotive have two led lights on the front, and the wires pass through the the chassis make complex and more real the bottom details. The steam boiler use two sectors built in up-side way to improve the realisticy of the dome. The tender shape is very simple and have in view the red spoked wheels for a sense of ancient times. The traction is guarantee from the caboose (a RC 9 Volts locomotive in wagon’s clothing); inside there are two LEGO weight (from the 12 Volts system) to improve the grip. At last but not least there are two passengers wagons in old syle to complete the train. See my link Brickshelf Gallery

Nice job! The tender is so big and so real. The steam cylinders and the steam drive rods are amazing! I'm a little bit jealous of this masterpiece! [/size]

12V Conversion of Emerald Night 10194
LEGO Train 12 Volts replied to LEGO Train 12 Volts's topic in LEGO Train Tech
If you have a 12Volts track with several 12V locomotives, remote signals and switches it's not so simple to convert all this stuff into 9volts! -
I share Dave's opinions about the aesthetic view for the complete Santa Fe Super Chief and the technical building fot the Emerald Night ...but for the nostalgia view point I always considered the complete 7740, with the optionals sleeper and mail coach, the best train set of all time! Because I'm great fan of the 12Volts era I have to say that lego set 7750 and 7760 are my second best choice! Thanks for the great topic!

12V Conversion of Emerald Night 10194
LEGO Train 12 Volts replied to LEGO Train 12 Volts's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Hi everyone, here you can see my final creation to obtain a perfect 9Volts output from 12Volts, using a voltage regulator like the semiconductor LM7809. The electric layout is designed as follow and is realized to fit in the Emerald Nigh's tender -
MOC: SL7 Steamlined Steam Locomotive
LEGO Train 12 Volts replied to Made in China(he16767)'s topic in LEGO Train Tech
Wonderful reconstruction! Very nice the picture merging Lego and historical locomotive. Good work! -
My current 12 volt layout is large 4,2x4,2m because the size of my room isn't larger than 5.0x6.0m. I've designed the different train track inside the main big-circle; with this layout you can drive at the same time 6 trains, with 3 different transformers. On the deadend track I've parked other 5 trains My layout My trains

Straight and curved tracks in one set?
LEGO Train 12 Volts replied to Klaus-Dieter's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Right! Another good point is a box of 16 straights at $ 15,49 (the same cost of the box with cuve and straight) to guarantee a better economy of scale to LEGO company -
Nice tip I have the same problem!

12V Conversion of Emerald Night 10194
LEGO Train 12 Volts replied to LEGO Train 12 Volts's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Awesome works with that tender! You have used the original wheels of Emerald Night set (more sliding than wheels of 12volt era). I will be pleaased to see more pictures about the top of the tender gear ...and also of the red locomotive (did I see well?) . Only one doubt: using original wheels don't you increase the gap between the rail and contacts? Actually I'm working about a new convertion system (12volts to 9volts) with a voltage regulator (like the L7809CV) ...soon I hope to post the new electronic circuit ...this final solution will allow to use the XL motor at full throttle forever without any problem! -
7898 Locomotive with 8 lights
LEGO Train 12 Volts replied to LEGO Train 12 Volts's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Thanks for all your appreciate remarks about my MOD and the tips about led of 5 and 3mm diameter. Soon I will post some night images of my trains and large layout! -
Correct ! You can use also LEDs (technically: Light Emitting Diode) and a dropper resistor, only you have to fit the leds in the bricks! Thanks for the good points

Hi everyone, I really love the Hobby Train set, in particular the electric locomotive n.5. My personal revisitation for the 12 volts world require however 3 things : 1) Rise the height to five bricks, like all the other locomotives 2) Use the classic train doors for a more realistic access of the engine drive 3) The locomotive must have real forward and rear lights Here you can see the new shape ...for the lights I have glued a brick 1x1 with a Slope Brick Curved 6x1 ...the slope brick has also been perforated to allow the passage of the light. To see the complete project visit my page on Brick Shelf ...see you soon...

Hi everyone, this is another case of fake lights solved ! The 7720 diesel shunter with n. 2 diode 1N4001 (both of them cost less then 1 Euro) and n. 4 Lego 12 Volts Light Brick can run forward with only the front yellow and the rear red lights on ...and if you invert the direction of the locomotive these lights turn off to switch on the other pair of lights. Also the control seat is placed on a tourtable plate to make real the engine driver conduct. Here the simple electric circuit layout and some details ...see you soon!

12V Conversion of Emerald Night 10194
LEGO Train 12 Volts replied to LEGO Train 12 Volts's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I've have an economy degree ...so I'm not an electrician too , but this MOD is very simple, you have to use only one component ! -
Hi everyone, I always like this electric locomotive but as usual I don't really like the fake lights ! So I have upgraded this loco with a new 9 volts Electric Brick 1 x 2 with Single Side Light for the rear and n. 2 PF Led Lights for the outside lights. The problem of the two Power Function cables is the small space into the loco shell. To work this out you have to cut the electric wires in surplus and establish a new connection with a small-simple-electric-circuit to reduce the size of the original LEGO link. For more details see my page on Brickshelf ...see you soon!

Hi everyone, here you can find my last creation: Emerald Night modify for the 12 Volts. You have to do this four steps: 1) Modify the new train buffers (cut away 3mm from the bottom of the buffers to avoid contact with the insert 12V of your track) 2) Use n. 2 Black Electric, Train 12V Brick 2 x 4 with Power Pickup for Old Train Motor (cut away the arch on the front of the brick) 12V_Bricks.bmp 3) Use n. 1 resistance of 22 Ohm (or a more safe 27 Ohm ) placed in serial on the circuit to reduce the Volts from 12 to 9 4) Use n. 1 train weight on the tender (to improve the grip of the pick-up bricks) for more details see my link on brickshelf ...see you soon with other projects!

Rail Crossing for 9V RC brand
LEGO Train 12 Volts replied to LEGO Train 12 Volts's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Right, but the rail section will be the same of the other RC pieces? -
I wonder why LEGO hasn't built yet a plastic version of the set 4519 for the new RC train, I really miss this piece! Lego has introduced the awesome set 7996 but it hasn't the same geometry. The solution, for now, is to put the 4519 set in the new RC track layout, but the final result is not really pleasant.

Hi AFOL12v, I'm a big lego train 12 volt fan and soon I will post my collection. I'll be pleased to see other 12 volt train layout, and you seem to be the perfect person! Bye

Amazing job! All the construction is full of wonderful details ...I've never seen a scene so real ...also the colour of water is really impressive: it becomes light near the sand! I love the way you build the house ...a complex architecture for a simple look! Nice work!!! P.S. I like the black colour for the wood, and I share your opinion about the brown (I'm an old lego fan!)
