  1. I'll be there again to attend the show for four days
  2. It really was a fantastic event! Nice group, stunning MOCs and lots of interested visitors. I'm pretty sure being there in 2014 again! In a meanwhile I'm uploading some pictures:
  3. Pictures of the event can be viewed here.
  4. It really was a great show! I like they separated the fan part so we weren't annoyed by the music and commercial stands. We were there with about 40 AFOLs from which about 20 took care of the central layout. Around that there were separate layouts and stand alone models. I really was honored to be there. Met lots of people and other AFOLs. Pictures will follow later on :-)
  5. Thanks! I can assure you; there's one in. I discovered those vintage tires a couple of years ago when I bought a huge party of used LEGOs. These seems to be a nice add for the air bags underneath the axles. Use them quite many.
  6. Got a couple of pictures when I was building the model. I already posted them on a Dutch forum but I got some more requests here and there. This is how it actually started. I disassembled the Scania 141 and put the cab I already had onto the chassis. Please note this cab is still quite far away from the flat roof one on the model itself. Then I started to build a new chassis. I took off the crane and put it on top of it. The old Scania chassis still has the yellow body on it which will be put on the KW as well. A refit of the bonneted Scania you can see at the back. It still isn't finished. Will be done somewhere this year. Here's the old body on the KW's chassis. Still hasn't got its final shape but first I was building the cab in it's current livery. I did order some extra pieces for the cab and then I started to reshape the bodywork. The backside went open to put an underlift in between. Updating the Holmes twin boom with a new driving mechanism. I took the gearbox from set 8480. The truck is progressing. Still with lots of thing to be added and awaiting for the next chrome delivery. The chassis wasn't stiff enough at the moment and after I got lots of 1x12 black plates I started to rebuilt it. The final chassis at then with the CAT engine and exhausts. And with the cab mounted. The whole body and crane was removed but I kept it in pieces. Took me a couple of hours to merge it again. As a tractor unit it doesn't look bad either but with the crane it makes it even more special. And the finalized model. I'm quite satisfied with the result and expect to keep it for a couple of years before I use the pieces for another truck. Next month I'll be at LEGO World in Copenhagen where I'll meet Maciej Drwiega. He'll bring all his stuff with him so there will a nice opportunity for a photoshoot together!
  7. Thanks for the compliments everyone! I guess both. An outdoor shoot would be better. Maybe it's an idea to bring something with me to us as a background. Then we can try something at the meeting. Basically yes. They're some small adds like the mud flaps and decals. This gives the model a better look I think.
  8. I'll bring it to the next meeting for sure. There you can what I used for the bars. While typing the story for my website I actually forgot to mention these bars while they were really the last parts I've added … Anyhow, as the truck will be display at LEGO World in Copenhagen next February as well I guess over there the bars will be recognized ...
  9. Thanks for the comments so far. Till know I only used PF in my CAT dozer. It doesn't make sense to put it in the KW. It'll spoil the looks of it as the motors etc. are too big. The dozer operates quite well with PF and the model is large enough to house all the PF stuff.
  10. After six months of building I completed my Kenworth K100 tow truck. It's my first large scale US truck but there's more to come, that's for sure! The unit is fitted with a Holmes 750 twin boom crane which I've taken from my old Scania 141. That model doesn't exist anymore and I modified the crane here and there and added an underlift as well. The Kenworth is powered by a CAT 3408 V8 engine and the livery I've chosen myself this time. I never used green bricks for a truck before and I think it's fits quite well and it gives the truck a fresh look. It's has some chrome parts like the front bumper, rims, exhausts etc. Without I think it doesn't have the right looks. 11. It's not difficult to scale something down. When I look at Sariel's Kenworth the hood is far too long It's a matter of visualize something. The basis for building a car, a truck or some other equipment is a scaled drawing from a manufacturer. A bunch of pictures from every side of the vehicle will help you a lot as well. But you really have to build up some experience. When I look at mines of about 15 years ago they will not reach my today's standards. In some cases the details weren't correct but also the dimensions could have been better. To determine the scale you simply take the wheels you will use. The 24x43 wheels are more or less 1:13 for a truck. The 20x30 ones you can use for a lowboy although they're one or two millimeters too small (at least the rim should be a bit larger). It's the same for the other wheels. I doesn't matter which ones you're using because the principle is the same.
  12. Thanks! No, I didn't stop building but sometimes I more busy with other stuff. Still have lot of things to build but I need time and inspiration of course About a week ago I also took some studio pictures. I wanted to show the engine and I could better take those pictures inside than outdoors. I'm very used to take pictures outside but this doesn't look bad either.
  13. Please take care of a proper support underneath your driven axle else you really might have a problem
  14. Thanks for the compliments all! Yes I know, I haven't posted the excavator so far while I got since 2009 already. With a friend of mine I made a video and took some pictures. Next thing I will upload it this Atlas excavotor. I also have the modified CAT D7R with PF. Same story here; will be uploaded soon quote name='GuiliuG' date='04 April 2012 - 08:23 AM' timestamp='1333520583' post='1246924'] Looks very beautiful, but as for a lot of your creations, a lot of questions are remaining such as : is it motorized, what are exactly the functions, work they well,... Why don't you make some videos? Just click on the link in my opening post and you'll find out more! I made a typo I just saw ...
  15. It has been quite a while since I visited this forum but I'll try to do it more frequently. The reason now is I just finished a new truck and displayed it during a modelshow last weekend It's a typical Dutch truck this time, a FTF brick truck with drawbar trailer and vintage loading crane. The truck is originating from 1978 and when I saw a picture of it in the mid 80s I really wanted to see a model of it. It took till October 2011 when I eventually started. I had to use many unconventional building techniques for the cab but it was really fun building. Please read more about it on my website. There you'll find some more pictures as well http://www.dennisbosman.nl/lego/no58.html
  16. Just like this one: We really have to plan an outdoor photo shoot!
  17. I'll not be there. To crowded to me. Went there when it was organized for the first time in 2001. I'm more prefering the AFOL related events.
  18. It's not just about torque. You also have to get the model running. As Milan mentioned the weight of the front part is quite heavy. I have some models which can be motorized because the weight is more devided over the model. But I motorized all my machines (CAT D7R, Menck M154 and Atlas 1604 MK-ZW). They all work properly but the driven axles of the CAT are torned completely. For trucks it's better to use Milan's scale or with the 20x30 sized wheels.
  19. Thanks for the compliments and the welcome It's not the only forum I visit but I will try to put down some info about my work in progress here. At this moment I'm working on more MOCs. One is the heavy haulage truck of which the unit is completed already. The low loader needs some more time; I'm running out of blue pieces and the previous Scania of the same company I will definately not break off. Two other projects are vintage trucks of which one truck is ready as well but also the trailer is still missing. Now I'm rebuilding one of the models on my website which I built in the second half of the nineties. The real thing doesn't exist anymore because the driver had an accident. But I like the model very much so I'm rebuilding it on todays standard, new pieces and the knowledge I built up over the years. Which one it will be? I will let you know when the first part is ready. It's planned to be finished in April next year when I will present it on a model show.
  20. Hello, I think I'm not unfarmilliair in the world of LEGOs but I just registered myself to this forum. My name is Dennis Bosman, 32 years old and never stopped building with LEGOs since I was born. Dark ages? Never heard of it. My main field is building scale models of trucks and machinery on scale 1:13. Allthough I haven't built a lot this year I just started a few new projects. It is one of my biggest hobbies and it will still be. You can lots of my models on my own website: www.dennisbosman.nl While surfing on the internet I saw lots of nice new MOCs and especially the ones with PF. However my models are far too big and also too heavy to motorize with PF I have some plans to build one on a smaller scale as well. I have quite some 1:13 models right now so why not trying to do something different? As a member of Lowlug I participate on events about once a year but I also attend events in the field of heavy haulage which is my main field. I've seen some nice models on BS of members of this forum I just discovered. So I think this will be a nice extension of my LEGO hobby and to get in touch with other AFOLs. Best regards Dennis Bosman
  21. Nice piece of equipment! Well done! I saw it today on BS and Youtube.
  22. I've seen lots of models with PF functionalities. It's about time I start with those as well but than I've to step back from my 1:13 scale models as they're to heavy to motorize. I still have some Black Cat wheels. I'm getting more and more curious about these kind of models as I've seen lots of nice ones last months. And they're looking great as well
