mindstorms help
DLuders replied to Alasdair Ryan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
You can download the Lego RCX 1.0 software from the Lego RCX Command Center. Note that The Lego Group (TLG) does not support the Lego RCX anymore, but there are websites that still deal with that platform. After you download the software, you can look at the "Beginning to Use the Lego Touch Sensor" example on the website http://www.kipr.org/curriculum/touch.html#anchor701290 . They have some example programming code that you could adapt to your situation. Alternatively, you could buy one of the old Lego Mindstorms CD disk ( http://www.bricklink.com/catalogPG.asp?G=4493852 ) and not worry about downloading the software. The CD contains some basic instructions that may be helpful in setting up the programmable brick. P.S. If you don't have the 9713 RCX Infrared Transmission "Tower" that accompanies the RCX kit, you won't get very far. It is needed to transfer the computer programming to the RCX brick, via an infrared signal. A picture of it appears below. -
WIP Liebherr LTM 1100
DLuders replied to shimon's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It looks very robust and solid! Is there any chance that you could make a video of it, so that we can see its operation? How many sections of the telescoping boom are you going to make? From the Liebherr website: "The LTM 1100-4.2 features top capacities in the class of the 4-axle mobile cranes. Additionally the telescopic boom can be extended by lattice boom parts and a double swing-away jib." -

8421 Mobile Crane
DLuders replied to j3tang's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
"awendelgass" just posted this YouTube video of the venerable 8421 Mobile Crane in action. Although the text is "auf Deutsch" (in German), one can easily see all of the fantastic functions on this 2005 set. I've added the sharp render from Blakbird's Brickshelf gallery. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHEpttIk3Hw -

Maxlegotechnic just posted this showing the 8868 Airtech Claw Rig in action. I've added one of Blakbird's beautiful renders from his Brickshelf gallery: -
Marvin G./ jamesbond00096 just posted a of his "new LEGO 16-wide Convertible Supercar. It is NOT an official Lego set, so you can't buy it! It features: Steering, Convertible top, opening doors and hood, V8 fake engine, 3-speed gearbox with reverse, parking brake and differential. The music is made by myself." The "micro fake engine" consists of Technic axles poking out of 1x2 Technic Bricks! He has posted 27 pictures on MOCpages.

Lego technic challenge final
DLuders replied to Zerobricks's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I also see entries from "mhq" (Mahjqa), "nicoflip71" (Nico71), and "telecasterman" (a.k.a. arcanemettles). Yes, it's going to be hard to choose a JUST ONE "winner" from among the 20 choices! There are no "losers" in this elite group! Congratulations to those who are honored by The Lego Group. -
Leopard 2A4 Main Battle Tank
DLuders replied to Sariel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
What a magnificent MOC! The realistic suspension, self-leveling turret, and details are superb. I like how the torsion-bar suspension works (from your Facebook page): -
Maybe the new Lego Technic Marketing Manager will continue to accommodate the AFOL community by "leaking" details about the upcoming sets, like Monica Pedersen had done 13 months ago with the 8049 Technic Tractor with Log Loader. All of the feigned outrage about the recent "leaking" of (so-called) "confidential" pictures of the 1H2011 #8070 Super Car set also occured during Ms. Pedersen's time as the Marketing Manager. The image below (from September 2009) was "leaked" by her at about the same time of year as the 8070's images were - a few months before the official set release date. [NOTE: The 8049 set has been released for many months now, so folks need not be alarmed at the "Confidential" label below] From MOGlug, "8049 Technic Tractor with Log Loader Posted on: 09/22/09 at 20:21:48 AST": "Here are the photos - TLG let TechnicBRICKs "leak" the photos with the following message: Monica Pedersen (LEGO Technic Marketing Manager) about the new product, that you should want to read. "As a special treat we would like to share a picture of one of the LEGO Technic novelties from 2010 with you. With the launch of the 8049 Tractor with Log Loader LEGO Technic is re-introducing pneumatics into our models. We have been listening to on-line discussions and wishes from our adult fans for some time, and as a consequence we decided to look into how we could use pneumatics in a new LEGO Technic model. After having tested different models with our core target group (boys 7-13) we found out that they really liked being able to play with pneumatics in this particular model and this is why the 8049 Tractor with Log Loader is launching in 2010. The Designer behind the model is Lars Krogh Jensen and he has been very excited about building with pneumatics again as it gives the Designers some new possibilities of adding functionality. It will also be very interesting to see how the product will be welcomed by our adult fan group, who has been asking for pneumatics for quite some time."" On TechnicBRICKS, Conchas wrote, "As you may see, these are still confidential and watermarked images, but we got the permission to publish them and so they are official. This unprecedented fact in the TECHNIC theme, is a strong sign of the commitment the respective team is putting towards its fans and how they have been listening what the same fans have to say." Will this relationship continue with the new Lego Technic Marketing Manager, Mr. Casper Thingholm?

Any custome LDD modular houses out there?
DLuders replied to Maltem's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
"athcreart" posted several Modular structures (shown below) on his Brickshelf gallery, complete with the LDD .lxf files. He has several more Modular structures on the Lego DesignByMe Gallery anymore under his username "athcreart". You could e-mail him for any "missing" .lxf files by looking for his e-mail address on the .TXT files loaded in the various Brickshelf subfolders. Here are only some of his wonderful creations (which he has shared): Standard Modular Apartment Building: "Standard modular apartment building. Has stone and brick walkup and small backyard. FIRE ESCAPE AC units in windows Basement with PRESENTS. 2 and 3 floors are 16x16. Roof has HVAC equipment." Modular School: Apparently, lots of people have admired (and copied/modified) his work: -
NeXTSTORMING posted this "Part 1" of "LEGO MINDSTORMS at LEGO WORLD 2010 (IJsselhallen - Zwolle, The Netherlands). These are some of the inventions and robots presented at the MINDSTORMS booth. More shots will be available soon."Does anybody recognize some of the people on this video, or their MOCs?

REVIEW: 8265 Wheel Loader
DLuders replied to Blakbird's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
@ jantjeuh: Here's a outlining Sarafiel's instructions for motorizing the 8265 Wheel Loader: -
Folks, I'm 53 years old. I'm not some kid. Look at the below again. TLG's own commercial talks about "power" and the "powerful bucket". Contrast this with numerous videos (posted here on this forum) that show the main bucket struggling and ruining the motors. We had a poll here, whereby 75% of the respondants (located all over the world) reported problems with this set within a short time (most within 1-15 minutes). The ad is borderline "false advertising", so I hope the new Lego Technic Marking Manager takes note.

How many families bought the 8043 set, and found out that their (US $200) investment literally "ground up" after 15-30 minutes of play? I don't know how else to describe it. If folks are going to put that kind of money down on an expensive toy, it's not unreasonable to expect it to work correctly as advertised on the Lego Technic Homepage's video. You don't see the official marketing video showing a struggling machine. OK, the single designer may not be the only one to blame for this debacle, but TLG's design team didn't even follow their own procedures in the below. They failed, and treating TLG "with kid gloves" isn't going to help them improve their product testing procedures. One expects better from a 51-year-old company.

Blakbird is correct -- there is no yaw motion in this simulator. He knows a lot more about aircraft than a Civil Engineer like me! Perhaps the simulator could be modified (with a central knob wheel turned by one's thumb) to produce the "yawing" action. From Wikipedia: Yaw, Pitch, and Roll (and how to create these motions in a real airplane):

Maybe the new Lego Technic Marketing Manager is already making changes. I see from the Lego Technic Designers website http://technic.lego.com/en-us/Designers/Blog/Default.aspx that the "Ask the Designer" feature has been removed. There were a batch of original (Nov 2009) questions and answers posted, but NOTHING since then. 11-month-old, stale "Ask the Designer" webpages don't make for "good marketing." In mid-2010, I asked about a possible, future Power Functions "Small" motor, I got no reply (even after I asked Lego Customer Service about the "stale" site). Maybe the Lego Technic website will be BETTER MAINTAINED with more timely news. Heck, this Eurobricks forum was talking about 8043 Service Packs weeks before that website even ACKNOWLEDGED that they were doing them.

"robocamp" has this showing how to build a "WALL-E LEGO Mindstorms NXT, designed by RoboCAMP.pl team.
