  1. I designed a Lego Space Shuttle to scale with the recent Lego Saturn V set. Since I get this question a lot, it is more proportionally correct than the 10231 and 10213 Shuttle, and is also accurately scaled to the Saturn V :) I posted a version of it on here before, but this one has been adjusted and finally submitted it to Lego Ideas. 2. Thanks! Yes, they're held in by technic pins/axles, as is the orbiter. I looked long and hard for something round that would flare out past 4x4 studs. Nothing worked until recently when I was building the Saturn V engines and realized I could use those barrels!
  3. Been posting this around, and I wanted to share here too. I've been working on my own Lego Space Shuttle design for a while. While I like what Lego has put out, I was never completely satisfied (mostly with the proportions of past models). Then when the incredible Saturn V came out, I knew I HAD to rework the design to the same scale (approx 1:111). This is where I am so far (imgur album). 4. I finally acquired two 60080s to do this very thing (after months of waiting on ebay for a couple good deals). I like the nose cone piece too. I know a lot of people think it's too specialized/specific, but I think it looks better than the build solutions in other sets to be honest. I'm mocking up plans in LDD to make the rest more accurate to the real shuttle.
  5. Got mine yesterday, had it shipped to my work and had to spend all day with the box by my side, not able to build it! But finally got home and built it. It's a great set. I still have my issue with the hood, but in person it's great. Everything is solid, except the doors. The whole bottom half of the door is connected by one stud, so they're a little flimsy, but it works for the careful kid/adult. Like any Lego set the beauty is that you can build it however you want, so I still plan to mod it. This is my starting point but I'll do more mods later: http://www.flickr.com/photos/27826536@N04/9418850265/
  6. Thanks! I'm looking forward to seeing other people's take on modding the hood. I've already seen a few good ones with fewer pieces.
  7. Long time lego builder, but more so when I was younger. Haven't had the time or resources to build much lately. I've only posted once before, and that was to share my work-in-progress mod of the BTTF hood: http://www.flickr.com/photos/27826536@N04/9418850265/ I like the set a lot, but I feel they dropped the ball on the design a little when you compare it to what they're putting out there right now. So just a suggested mod for anyone who wants to try it. Anyway, I look forward to discussing lego and seeing what people come up with!
  8. First time poster. I wish I had looked at the solutions people here have been posting for the hood. They're great and much simpler than what I was working on. For mine, I tried it using the long ramp (link has some instructions). It's still a work in progress, but i widened the front back to 8 studs like the original Cuusoo concept. Hope you like it. My BTTF set shipped today. Can't wait! link to instructions (I can't post a picture as a new member): http://www.flickr.co...N04/9418850265/
