10283 NASA Space Shuttle Discovery Discussion
firetech replied to Vilhelm22's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Limited releases online always end up being connection lotteries, since the servers usually never have near enough capacity for all frustrated buyers constantly reloading to get the correct page. As a software engineer, I find it a bit sad that no good solution for this has emerged in the many years of e-commerce (however, I also realize it's an extremely hard problem to solve properly)...- 310 replies

I hate when people get greedy like that. I read some posts about 41999 on a reseller/investor forum today out of curiosity, and was frankly disgusted about the opinions and (bad) justifications expressed there. Greedy egoists, all of them. Haven't seen any of those tendencies here, thankfully. Ok buying one extra set for flipping, but cheating the system and buying all of the stock from one store (using extra people) just for selling and then also cheating BL to earn even more money just makes me sick...

"Customer Service" means that CS is checking the order, to make sure that you haven't ordered more 41999's to the same address or similar. They want to make sure that investors/resellers don't buy up all the limited edition stock. If you managed to order when it was available and there's no problems with your order (like problems with your credit card), I think there's a high probability you'll get the set.

I think so, but that depends entirely on the bank. If nothing happens with the reservation for a week or two, I think most banks drops it.
-
Mine seems to have been formally charged the day after shipping (shipped on the 2nd, charged on the 3rd). The amount was reserved on my account quite immediately after placing the order, though.

I wonder this as well. I've called their European "freephone" number (00 800 ...) from my (Swedish) mobile twice without issues.
-
For me, it went "Ooh, that Highway Enforcer looks nice, I'll vote for that" to "Omg, how can that be in the lead? I guess I won't be buying the set" (sorry rm8, I don't really know why I thought that, I do like the original design when I look at it now) to "Whoah, I've GOT to get that!" (when the retail version was shown) to "Come ON, S@H! It's been August 1 for several minutes now, give me the possibility to buy that 41999 already!" Number 05865 now stands assembled in my living room (with only the white line and "V8" stickers, plus some really minor modifications*) and I just love the looks of it. Thanks rm8! * I moved the PF lights to the inner set of headlights, added two extra round 1x1 plates to support the headlights better and added a white round 1x1 plate on a 1/2 pin as a hood cap (after tilting the centermost #2 connector at the front 90 degrees to make its hole vertical).

Open it to find out your license plate number! You may be lucky number 00001. After all, opening this box doesn't destroy it like other Technic boxes.

Hehe. My cables end up like a snake pit regardless. I wonder when we'll get wireless electricity... :P
-
Also, winding the cables around that axle may look nice (when I first saw it, I thought I should do the same), but it'll make changing batteries a bit harder, since the PF switch is mounted on the battery box. ;)

Actually, which has already been said, it's (2/20000)*(1/19999) = 1/199990000. First pick, you have two "right choices". After you've picked one right, there's only one right choice and 19999 wrong choices left.

If you enter your tracking number on http://www.dhl.de/en/paket/information/sendungsverfolgung.html instead of using the page that Lego links you to, you get a little more info (and it seems to update faster).
-
As soon as the package has entered Sweden, you can call Posten (0771 33 33 10) and say that you're waiting for a package from Germany and give them the DHL tracking number. They will then give you the Swedish tracking number so you can continue tracking. :-)

9398 not driving straight
firetech replied to datune's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
In steps 32 and 36, book 1, you have to make sure the 12 tooth gear you add don't put any strain on the (then fixed) steering rack. While assembling my 41999 (same chassis) yesterday, i noticed that if you put on the 12 tooth gear in certain positions, even though the servo motor axle was still in the correct position, it put strain on the steering mechanism, making it unaligned (not driving straight). To solve this, I removed the 12 tooth gears, flipped it and put it on upside down (relative to how it was placed before). Not sure why that helped, but it did. -
The handlebar of the bicycle of the hot dog stand (July polybag) that early US shoppers got instead of the mini mech (August polybag). The mini mech's handlebar can lay flat within the bag, while the handlebar of a Lego bike is always perpendicular to the bike itself, making it prone to cause mentioned damage.

The Swedish mail tried to deliver my 41999 to my door just 30-40 minutes after I left for work, and my fiancée (who was at home) apparently slept through the doorbell. Now I'll have to wait until tomorrow (hopefully!) for them to deliver it to my service center... Why couldn't it go straight to my service center like all normal deliveries in Sweden? Much more efficient and adapted to the working man... :/
