This is awesome! I loved the realistic wooden dock you set the port on. And of course all the sets pictured are some of the best sets lego has ever offered. I don't yet own an Armada flagship but it looks like a very good ship. I gotta get me one someday!
-
The flag. In this pic The red, white, and blue striped flag is the same flag the dutch used. Other than that, I'm not sure if there are any other similarities to the dutch. At the time I couldn't think of anything else. It is pretty funny though. :-D
-
Yep. I would have rather not used light gray in the ship but it was all I had available at the time. And the sails were made out of......Tissues!
-
I took it apart a couple weeks after I built it. Nope. Good guess though. lol, probably. At the time I built this, I didn't have many pirate pieces except for cannons. But I did have a lot of light gray. I guess we can pretend they are. Metal shielding it is!

This was a ship I built back in 2004: A Dutch Frigate It was actually the first moc I built coming out of my "dark age." I was curious to know what you guys thought of it. Can you guess what I used for the sails? :-D

I got 53% my first time around. 76% my second time. What the heck was that monkey's name?

Hey, thats a nice little ship ya got there Evil Willy! The dark red and black color scheme goes well together,. And the sails look great of course.

FORT LEGOREDO like you've never seen it before !!!
Jacob C. replied to Brick Miner's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Fort Legoredo with winter paint scheme? It does look weird. I wouldn't buy it. -
I got mine for $120 off of bricklink. That's a little high but the sails, parts, and instructions are in "like new" condition and the seller was in my country, so shipping wasn't expensive. I also bought a few other pirate sets with it. The cheapest one on bricklink right now is $95. All the cheapest sets seem to be in europe (particularly the UK) Lucky them!
-
Wow, I got two guys like that when I purchased a Red Beard Runner a few weeks ago. I've been trying to stock up on pirate figs and sets recently. Better to do it now, before they start increasing in prices like classic castle.
-
The seller is "Legos for Learning", a U.S. seller. I got all the good pirate sets and figs but the seller does have a decent deal on the "Night Lord's Castle" set. Complete with box and instructions. $72.50 The set design sucks but it is a pretty good parts pack.
-
In total, I paid $160 (shipping included). Which is good, considering I bought it all from one store. If I had searched for the lowest prices on all the items, then I would have had to purchase them from multiple stores and the shipping costs would have probably been much higher with doing that. I don't mind not having the boxes, I'm currently running out of space in my room because of lego boxes *sing* I actually had the set like a decade ago. Some of the pieces went missing and the box is probably sitting in a landfill somewhere. *sad* I'm most excited about the 34 figs I got. It's nice to know that pirates, for the most part are cheaper than castle figs!

*y* I like it a lot. This should be an official set! It's a really good expansion on the Armada sentry set. The structure and look of the building makes it look like a headquarters for the Armada. Maybe the admiral's headquaters or something? I can just picture an admiral standing on the top balcony directing his troops.

Well, it looks like we all agree. Lego needs to start making sets focusing on medieval life in general. Peasants, minstrels, farmer, fisherman, soothsayer, goat herder, theif, gypsies, hunter, artist, boat builder, stable owner, royal families, etc...are all great ideas. It'd be great if Lego released a line of like 5 or 6 sets representing medieval life and the ability for all the sets to be connected to one another, making one big medieval town! That'd be awesome!

Yep.I found most of the flags at this site: Jolly Rogers Anyone know what Morgan's flag looked like? Oh cool! That's an interesting way to make sails! I never imagined it would involve incense and coffee, lol! I might give that a shot or I might just buy some cloth similar to the lego sails, use a hole-puncher to make the holes, etc. Anyone know what material Lego uses for their sails?
-
I suppose they chose Edward England's flag because England was known to use restraint when it came to violence and usually didn't kill unless it was necessary. Well, and his flag is the stereotypical pirate flag people think of nowadays. It would have been pretty funny if Lego had chosen Edward Low's flag instead. I would have prefered Calico Jack Rackham's flag myself.
-
Sometime in the near future when I build my pirate ship, I'll also make my own custom flag for it. For inspiration, I found a buncha flag designs and bunched em together in one pic: Pirate Flags The first 16 flags were used by actual pirates, I'm not sure about the last 4. I'll probably just print out my own custom sticker to place over one of my lego flags. Though I would actually prefer to make it out of cloth but I don't know how. Have any of you made custom pirate flags or know of anyone who has? And if someone could post a good link about making sails too, that'd be a real help!

Who wants to look at the Arkham comic when....
Jacob C. replied to reideen1313's topic in LEGO Licensed
I guess they just switched the pre-fab parts, so they are pointing toward the outside and so the cell parts are on the inside. That makes sense. -

Are you sure? Because the roof tops are pointed in two different directions in the pics. In the box art, the roof tops are sloping down toward the Poison Ivy part but in the other pics, they are sloping down toward the pre-fab part. There's only one large roof top piece, so it can't be pointing two ways unless they switched the roof tops around on the different pics. -

Is lego trying to falsely advertise this set? If you look at the set on the box and then compare it to the other pics, it looks different. The Poison Ivy section of the set is no where to be seen in the other pics. See here: Arkham Asylum I'm hoping that maybe this set has two building options for the two parts of the set that look different on the box pic. But something tells me that Lego probably changed the set and made it more boring by adding those ugly pre-fab wall pieces. -
What would please me the most is a well designed set that looks "castle-ish." It seems like some of these newer sets are thrown together without much thought for the overall design or appearance. One exception would be Vladek's Dark Fortress which was a pretty good design. I'll be buying one of those along with Batman's Arkham Asylum sometime soon. But this set is definitely a breath of fresh air compared to some of the other KK2 sets. Lego is at least on the right track.
-
Yep, thats totally true. This set is no where near the level of a Legend. The design looks chaotic in my opinion. It is better than Morcia but thats about it. It has way too many pre-fab parts and not enough bricks. On a positive note, the skeleton being tortured is cool and the red armor looks awesome. I probably won't be buying this though unless it's on sale for under $50.

Yea. I think the front part of the ship needs the most work. And then some rigging and ropes. I think the 18th century frigates were mostly flat throughout the deck. I agree it would look better raised but the builder was probably going for historical accuracy in that regard.

Check out this nice looking frigate on brickshelf: 18th century frigate It was built by Brickshelf member "gui45" The color scheme kinda reminds me of HMS Victory a lil bit.
