Kaliphlin Guild: Homepage, Sign-up and Discussion
SkaForHire replied to Si-MOCs's topic in Guilds of Historica
Not sure if I fully understood this, but nothing automatically updates. We would have to do it ourselves. But since anyone can create or edit a page, it should not be too hard to copy and paste the same information as they posted here (the back story) and put up two or three pictures with links back to the post on Eurobricks and to their Brickshelf or Flickr folder. Oh wait... do you mean the cross-referencing on the page? Like, do I just put in a link titled the same as another wiki page? yes, yes it is. -

Mikel, I am very glad you joined our guild. Again, some great stuff you are coming up with. it sounds like the Karinca and the Larik'ai could be distance relatives... The Larik'ai tend to have darker skin, but are known for painting their bodies for religious reasons also. Something our anthropologists will have to look into I think. -
This topic just makes me think about how much I miss the old masts. They were so much better. This is a very cool project you are working on, I would have never thought about building a BSB to exact specifications of the re-release - I never realized there were so many subtle differences. But I only have the old ones.

Yeah, at 52 pages to go through, the thread is just a bit much for the newcomer. Although SI does a great job of keeping up the front page. I hope a resource like this would help the newer people get oriented, while helping us older members remember what has happened thus far! Don't worry about the English as a second or third language, I think if anyone sees a mistake they can correct it. As for pictures on the wiki, considering people actually own the copyright to their images, unless someone specifically says that their image can be used, I think we should let the original owner always upload it. -

IT is definitely a fine line to walk, but there comes a point -- especially for a project like this -- that there is just too much information. Although, as we said, discussion is here, we make all the decisions here, I kind of see the Wiki as a one stop reference tool. It is not alive like the forums, and we won't be doing much direct corresponding with one another there. That keeps us here, but using the outside source as a type of storage. I would say this is almost the equivalent of flickr. -

Instead of redesigning my teaching portfolio and employment packet, I spent the last half an hour goofing around on this :Kaliphlin Wiki We don't have to use it but I thought that perhaps it might be a good tool to have so that we don't have to search the thread for everything. That way SI Doesn't have to keep adding more and more links / text from the thread to the front page. Also, we could use it as a fast resource to look up information about Kaliphlin. As I mentioned on the Wiki, all discussion still has to go on here. But as we decided on important topics one of us can go update the wiki, or when we finish a moc and want to do a short write up, post a pic or two, and put down some links back to the forum we could do that also. I kind of see it as a large tome of knowledge about our guild that is easily available. Now of course we don't have to use this at all, my feelings won't be hurt. I just was investigating some possibilities. Let me stress this is not my Wiki, but OUR wiki. Everyone is welcome to contribute. I did not want to put up any pictures / maps / what not, because I have not heard what people think about the site yet and if we want to do it. -

I think it meant that she was not his sister by blood, but they were enslaved together. I assume she is now free. If not, GEAR Co is ready for some tough intimidation of her master. As for water being here, it kind of makes sense if we look back to the ancient history when the whole continent was ruled by Kaligem, before the great sands came. We were a lush grassland where water was not coveted. We also have the finest ports in the world, and the greatest traders. Water, the most precious of the elements, clearly belongs to us. -

Uh OH... Here comes the flood of refugees... (I almost MOCed that, but I couldn't bring myself to depict Kaliphlinites departing our wonderful southlands.) -

Very awesome, great work. It gives away what I am working on... but I am creating a whole new race for the badlands, to be unveiled soon as soon as I get enough pieces for them. They call themselves in their native tongue "The People of the Flame" we traders of Kaliphlin know them as indigenous peoples of the badlands, bandits, pests, evil-dwellers, devils, but most commonly we refer to them as Lerik'ai. They are humanoid, but have strange red, black, or gold skin colorings that set them apart from humans even from the farthest distance. They do not use animals for transportation, but can travel quickly over the desert sands. They live in small hobbles and in the rare cave or cavern within the badlands. They worship the black life force that the badlands provides, and hate that we traders take it from the ground. In fact, many a trader has lost their life to such a creature because they brought from the ground this crude. With the oil they tend to the ceremony of the flame - burning a vat throughout a ten day period in order to cleanse their souls. The Lerik'ai tend to be reclusive, and it is said if you see one, you know you will be attacked shortly. Oddly, Lerik'ai rarely leave their tribes - for they are hunted down and killed if they do. This has presented one of the few known instances of Lerik'ai entering a city or lands not parched like the badlands - as soon as the traitor has been dealt with, they return to the sands. They are a dangerous people, but just one of the many threats in the badlands. Beyond this, not much else is known about the People of the Flame... yet. I am working on a Moc, where I am not only revealing my sig fig (finally!) but also showing the Lerik'ai attacking an oil field. I also have a back-story where their most hated enemies are the centaurs... I was thinking of making that story MOC for my myth MOC... but we will see. -

What is this to the end???? We must build FOREVER! I agree, as much as our guild has benefited from your guild being locked up, it is probably time to open the doors again to keep the balance. As for LCC, it will be interesting to see how different their project is. I don't think many liked the lore I submitted for it... Although mine was a little long. And the teasers are killing me too, can't wait to see what you all have cooked up for us. -

Each guild other than Nocturnus, seemed to fall off from watchtower to embassy, but I don't know if that means that people are quitting. Although, Avalonia had the same drop rate (around 40%) as the other guilds that means that many more members did not participate in the second challenge for Avalonia than any other guild. In fact, Avalonia probably dropped the population of Nocturnus. I think the idea of a role call is a good idea at this point. As the only closed guild, you guys are not getting the influx of fresh talent the rest of the guilds are getting. I am not saying you all need talent :) I am saying that it is nice to have fresh meat in there supplementing those who are on break / burned out / doing other projects / etc... -

SI - mocs Thank you for your encouragement, I will feel free to make some suggestions in the future. Mikel Kalores As far as things have been running, I think LDD has been accepted. -
YES, YES, and More YES! I am so happy someone did something like this. I have wanted to do a Petra like MOC, but your realization is much better than I could have ever imagined. I love the built in towers, the riders, the story. This is perfect for Kaliphilin. Give us some more mystery to add to those mountain mummies. I like the weathered feel it has, the tarp over the ladder was a great touch. I am thinking that we are going to eventually need an interactive map to show all the wonders of Kaliphlin. Excellent job.

I think a recent "myth" about a character could be acceptable, but I am not the judge! :) As for my posts over at CC, I have not brought the same thoughts over here yet - Although I know DC reads those forums, so if he wants to borrow from anything I have said, then he and the other leaders are welcome to it. I mean, I would be willing to make more suggestions, but I came to this relatively late in the game and would not want to step on anybody's toes. Also, changing the rules drastically would alter the experience at this point in the game. Say in a year or 6 months, if they wanted to "reboot" Historica with a more defined "game like" version, I think it could work... I would be on board for helping to hash out game mechanics for sure. But, what we have now is a good system. I think the guild leaders are doing a good job making tweaks as we go. Also, we have a lot of secondary people that are taking the time to organize indexes, make maps, help run the lore, and run side contests. I hope this keeps the stress levels down for our GLs. I just feel like this is a really great community, and I am happy to be a part of it. One of the reasons I volunteered to run a pirate equivalent was to get some of those ideas into a group project. Although I don't think that it is going to take off over in the pirate forum. At least any time soon that is. I kind of have an eclectic background, although I am currently finishing a PhD (and hopefully finding a full time teaching gig), over the years I ran a small game developing company and tried my hand at fantasy writing... so something like this was right up my alley. I just end up thinking about stuff like the duchy post I made over at CC on my long drives to where I teach at. I probably have too much alone driving time... ha. As for the myth contest, I have one or two ideas up my sleeve. I have another really interesting idea for a group build /contest too that I think, based on our guild's tastes and characters thus far, a lot of people would be interested in. But I won't throw it down just yet because I don't want another guild to take the idea and run with it. So after the myth competition is over, I will detail it out more. -

What about a depiction of guild mythology. I think we can all get on board with that. Sample Contest rules - Depict a myth for Kaliphlin's past. Give a short write up of the myth and display a MOC that relates to it. (Or we could do a series of small MOCs, like a comic strip). MOC size 32x32 maximum, or 16x16 panels (max 5) if you are doing a series of MOCs to depict the legend / myth. At the end of two / three weeks we can put it to a forum poll to determine the winner... Or SI can just determine the winner. Sorry, that is all I have at the moment - I am a little tipsy from a Fat Tuesday party. :) -
I definitely think the city guide is something worth keeping updated or maybe linked to the main post - if not pinned. Although we have a MOC index, it does not say where the MOCS are, nor does it present all the current maps. I think this geographical thread is a good one. I would like to see the world map put on there too though.

Thank you very much, sir. I am hoping to get those locked up bricks back soon. I have almost convinced the girl friend to release her sentimental hold. Hopefully that block holds on until the next challenge is announced, because I have a list of 20 MOCs I want to get to, and the next one would probably suck up all my bricks again, leaving me in the same predicament. HA. Since all builds will be scored, does this mean we are at a serious disadvantage to Avalonia, who has twice as many builds? And Should we built more than one entry each for the next challenge to make up for this? I do suppose that the scores could be multiplied against a handycap percentage based on the number of entrants to make points balance... but that is too much math for this historian. That is alright, we now see Barqa will be in very capable hands. We are glad that you are on our side in these troubling times. Welcome again to the guild! -
Yeah, the LDD was spectacular, and then you throw this down Gex... Not only are you the master Cartographer, but you should be our Foreign Minister. Excellent job!

Really cool! I was thinking about doing a gypsy wagon myself, but a traveling caravan of entertainers is pretty darn cool. I can't wait to see what you are teasing us for. -
I think this is one of the prettiest embassies in our guild. It just screams relaxation to me. And we all know that Kaliphlinites work hard so they can relax in luxury. Great job with this embassy.
-
I agree, this is a great example of a fortified embassy. International relations are not the greatest during this period, and sometimes you just have too pull close the doors and wait out a diplomatic problem. Don't worry, if you have to do so GEAR will send a rescue and resupply expedition!
-
I have to agree, don't teach them too much. They are so concerned with embracing the mysteries of life, they have not bothered to figure them out and improve them... Great MOC, I love the idea! Very different than what many had in mind, and that makes it a great addition to our powerful Foreign Ministry. I really like the furniture!

I am thinking perhaps a 16x16 depiction of drow being slaughtered like the poor soldiers they are! ;P Or maybe build a Drow Fortress being turned into a nursery for baby elves. ??? I am just teasing. :) But for real, I am very interested in seeing what the new challenge will be. We have done a military post, a civilian post, now perhaps an economic post?
