  1. If you're not in a rush to get it before christmas you may want to consider the new Lone Ranger train that will be in the shops next year. For a winter village you'd probably change the gun for a coach but it would be a nice start, and cheaper than the EN on eBay.
  2. Haven't you just answered your own question there? Why worry about what other people think is a good length?
  3. Err... Captain K, where I come from posting big pictures of your own MOCs in a thread about someone else's MOCs is called topic hijacking. Just mentioning that you've built some tamping machines as well with a link to your picture folder should have been sufficient.
  4. I'd already spotted it on Flickr. It's a really nice model; impressive detail on the tamping mechanism and the overall look just works... I've been thinking about doing track maintenance for a while but haven't had the time to research.
  5. Lego 12V built a BR94 which is a 0-10-0. I can't think of any x-12-x prototypes...
  6. This was built as an inspection car for the directors of Dutch Railways. Later it was available for private hire. The drivers cabs were not at the front but a bit further back and raised above the roof. This allowed passengers in the front loung a unique view over the tracks. The two humps on the roof gave it its nickname 'The Camel'.
  7. My 1'D2' (or 2-8-4 in American) has flange/blind/blind/flange and will run on regular Lego curves: BR65 Turn by Duq, on Flickr
  8. That's an impressive looking engine! Looking forward to see it in brick.
  9. I don't have the numbers or formulae to prove it but my gut feeling is that the effect of aerodynamics at the speed of a Lego train will be negligible.
  10. You've got the shape spot on! Now let's see if it runs when you actually build it...
  11. You mean like this?
  12. Funny that. Big Ben Bricks is also in the US so I'm pretty sure 'mm' works in the US too... A quick search would have told you that a 1x1 brick = 8mm. Or you could have found that 1mm = 0.039"
  13. That's a nice video of your trains but it doesn't show how the PF lights are connected to a 9V motor. For all we know your train may be running on PF. The 9V system of course had it's own lights. Have a look for them on Bricklink.
  14. See the Big Ben Bricks website for details on all available wheel sizes.
  15. My first thought was to use a half bush with teeth but I couldn't find a piece to use behind the wheel. A 3 long version of this would have done the trick but it doesn't exist: My next idea was to use one of these to go behind the wheel and use an elastic band to keep it attached to the wheel axle: As I was putting that into MLCad I realised that the L shape of 2 1x2 liftarms would fit.
  16. Weird and wonderful. So strange it has to be true... Won't be building one any time soon though.
  17. I'd come up with that this morning but as I was excluded from competition I hadn't posted here yet: Eccentric solution by Duq, on Flickr
  18. Hi Annie, If you don't want to go messing with Technic gears there is of course also the PF Train motor: Bricklink As for stickers, you can have a look for model train decals on eBay or you could get some bricks printed...
  19. Postage Holland to New Zealand will be another €17 or €24. I've no experience with Blokbricks but I'm not sure €38 is great value for 187 parts. Reverse engineering the design shouldn't take more than half an hour and the parts can't be that hard to get down under. Anyway, that's just my opinion.
  20. Have a look at Tim Gould's photostream, or Carl Greatrix.
  21. And you've no problem getting the 36 wheels and 18 wheel holders? Wheels start at €0.16. Axles at €0.60 and wheel holders at €0.39. That makes a total of €1.31 but that's adding the cheapest prices for each part which you won't all get from the same shop. You get the complete assembly from €1.27: link. For the wheels to fit on the axle the diameter must be spot on so I doubt you're going to get very far at home depot...
  22. I haven't seen the Red Cargo Train in any shops overhere. Only available through S@H.
  23. Err... Did you watch the designer video? The windows aren't symmetrical because they're different cars. One is a first class with a toilet, the other a dining car.
  24. I've ordered a set of these rods to fit on my BR65 and I have to say I'm quite happy with the result: BR65 Before and After by Duq, on Flickr
  25. That's a great model you have there. I'm working on a dark green car myself right now so I know what you mean about the limited supply of dark green. Like others have said before I would also love to see more of the rest of your layout.
