  1. Welcome! That medical frigate sounds interesting. Looking forward to seeing it in MOC form! Ragnar
  2. Welcome to Eurobricks! I'm sorry to hear that you're unwell, but I hope LEGO can be a positive and healthy hobby for you! Ragnar
  3. Welcome! The Orthanc set is on my to-buy list, but since I just got Helm's Deep, I'm going to have to wait a bit to get it. That's the trouble with expensive hobbies - you have to prioritize and delay gratification. Ragnar
  4. Weclome! I'd be interested in seeing your Bionicle Transformer MOCs, if you decide to put them up. Ragnar
  5. Welcome! Monster Fighters is a personal favorite, and I'm looking forward to seeing your MOCs! Ragnar
  6. This isn't really a "which set should I buy?" question, since I'm not faced with a concrete decision between two sets. It's really that I normally build fantasy/historical, and I got to thinking, "Hey! I don't have nearly enough ninjas." I took a look look at the review index, and many of the current Ninjago sets aren't reviewed. So, what are the best two or three sets, in your opinion, that the Ninjago line currently offers? And why? Thanks, Ragnar
  7. This is the entry I did for the recent Heroica building contest. Since it's only the second MOC I've ever posted online, I'm posting it here, for feedback and specific help on how to improve it. (I just joined Avalonia in GoH, so I want to improve my technique!) The Swamp Witch (With “Flick-Fire” Guardian Swamp Toad!) Deep in the swamps of western Murkwood, where the stream flows down to the foot of the mountain, you can find her. Some say she was born of magic, crawling from the slime of the swamp. Some say she was a beautiful princess, cursed by an enchanted mirror for her narcissism. Some say she eats the flesh of children and unwary travelers. Others say she can be bargained with. All say she's a powerful witch that can brew a potion to solve any problem . . . if you can pay the price. Jack Trumbull was at the end of his strength. He had been lost for three days in the swamps, and was out of water. He had long ago despaired of his quest – his brother was wasting away from a magical disease, cursed by a powerful sorcerer he had unintentionally offended on his last visit to Eubric Freeport. Jack was no hero, just a village farmhand. He couldn't afford the powerful magics for sale in Eubric, but he had heard of someone (something?) else that could help him. Then – was that the flicker of a flame up ahead? It looked different than the “fairy lights” that appeared in the swamp at night. Or maybe it was his fevered brain deceiving him. He moved closer, sliding through a narrow gap in the rocks. He saw her – rough planks made a narrow boardwalk over the water, and the witch, back turned, was stirring a cauldron over a fire some distance away. He gulped and began to approach, not noticing the pair of eyes that watched his every step. He made it halfway across the planks before a huge, slimy mass launched itself at his face. “RRRRIBBBIT!” croaked the witch's guardian swamp toad. “AAAAAH!” shouted Jack in confusion as he lost his balance and fell off the planks and into the muck of the swamp. As he staggered to his feet, shaking with fear and spitting the mud out of his mouth, the swamp witch turned and smiled – a vicious, saw-toothed smile of a predator. She opened her mouth and began to speak, in a ragged, croaking voice: “I know why you have come. I can give you the potion you need – for a price. You must steal for me the reflection of a beautiful princess, who has never yet seen her own face!” Jack approaches the Swamp Witch: The Swamp Witch stirs her brew while Jack watches in fear and trepidation! The stream cascades over the rocks as the Swamp Toad prepares to attack! Thank you in advance - I appreciate your advice! Ragnar
  8. Guthric is the son of peasants that went to Circardia, seeking their fortune, shortly after it was founded. He is a forestman/ranger who guards the borders of Circardia, the road east to the Elves, and keeps watch on any outlaws in the Enchanted Forest to the west that start trouble. I'm new to GoH, and excited about joining Avalonia and getting in on the fun. If I misunderstand anything please let me know, and I always welcome feedback on improving my MOCs, storywriting, and photography! Ragnar
  9. Welcome! Photography is always a useful skill if you're planning on sharing your own creations online. I'm discovering that the learning curve is pretty steep! Ragnar
  10. Welcome! Invite your other LUG members to join, too! Ragnar
  11. Welcome! I'm more of a purist, myself, but to each his own! (I bought one off-brand set back when I was a kid, and I was decidedly underwhelmed by it. From then on, it was only LEGO.) Ragnar
  12. Welcome! I just came out of my dark ages four months ago, and I'm excited to see your MOCs! Ragnar
  13. Welcome back! (Although I wasn't here before you left.) Ragnar
  14. Congratulations to the winners! The contest was great fun, and I'm glad I entered. Ragnar
  15. Welcome! Feel free to share your own MOCs, too! Ragnar
  16. Welcome! Looking forward to reading your reviews. Ragnar
  17. Welcome! Tell us some more about your schooling and dissertation. (I'm in grad school myself, but nothing related to LEGO!) Ragnar
  18. I can't imagine WB not fast-tracking the movie, and I can't imagine TLG passing up an opportunity to rake in money hand over fist. Also, I just came out of my dark ages, and I'm hoping for another chance to get Potterverse sets at retail price. :-/ Ragnar
  19. Welcome, LegoPanda! We all love LEGO here, so you'll fit right in! What types of sets are you interested in? Ragnar
  20. As Peppermint_M says, he's probably trying to make friends, and joining someone in their hobby is the only way he can think of to do it. He probably drops his hobbies, not when he gets bored, but when he realizes he's doing it alone. The problem is not with him taking up and dropping hobbies, but with bothering people. If the boss has already talked to him about it, with no change, there's not much you can do but set personal boundaries. As in, "I'm not going to talk LEGO at work. Feel free to email me, or post to this LEGO Technic forum online." (If necessary, send him to a different LEGO forum than Eurobricks). Ragnar
  21. Welcome! Just a suggestion - find something in real life and model it in LEGO. It requires (perhaps) less imagination, but just as much (or more) technical skill. Ragnar
  22. Shrine of the Blessed Etzel Etheric Windmill Cara * Thanks, everyone! This contest was inspirational, as were the entries!
  23. Thanks for the comments, Sandy! After the contest is over, I'll probably post the build over on Historic Themes to get further feedback. (It's just my second MOC, after all!) I'm really blown away by all the other entries. I'm learning new building techniques just by looking at them! Ragnar
  24. Wow, those videos (and creations) are amazing! Welcome! Ragnar
  25. Welcome! Be sure to share your creations with us - we love to see the imagination and creativity of new members! Ragnar
