No, I didn't like the Hobbit movies. They're from the Container Store. They're designed to hold dolls, sports balls, etc.
-
Notice I've also got the expanded cut DVDs of the Trilogy (in the top right corner).
-
I have mine in various-sized display cases on and above my desk. There isn't enough room on the shelves for all the LOTR sets I'd like to display, so I sometimes disassemble something in one of the cases and replace it with another set when I feel bored.

I'm just pumpin' out the photo edits! Another new set - back to the normal order - has been added to the first post. Go take a look at 64033 Skolek Aerial Assault!

New set added to the first post: 64031 Swift Dragon Lellyr! Go take a look! It looks so good! And accurate. Great work, The Cook! Well, I wasn't counting elements back when I made that, but I'm not terribly surprised to hear it's got more parts than I expected. Almost all of my pieces I get from kits, rather than Bricklink. I can confirm that: The slopes are from VDF and other sets from that wave 4183 is where I got all those plates 7187 is also a set I own and took pieces from HP castles are great - most of my tan parts are from there. The newest one, 4842, was particularly useful pieces-wise. Fight for the Dagger is where I got the dome, and also the red awning in the market inside the wall Chima sets, and Ninjago too, provide me with some of my favorite parts The sais are actually dark pearl grey I hope so! I've not started on any sets that have dominantly Faerie structures/machines, but I look forward to playing with their aesthetic. No dwarves on the roster this time around, but that's a great idea for a future wave!

I've never really planned to put any of my Dragon Lands creations on LEGO Ideas; I don't think they'd fare very well, being non-licensed builds, and I don't think they present as strongly as potential products without their fellow sets. I don't feel terribly compelled to see them become real LEGO kits, but I'm flattered you consider them worthy of that consideration! No, the wings on my dragons aren't LEGO cloth. I buy 1/4th yards of elastic fabrics (simple, mostly-cotton knits, if I remember right) in colors I want from a craft store, and then cut them to specific sizes based on the wing frames I've constructed. The Cook is right: I don't have instructions for my Dragon Lands stuff. If sufficient demand surfaced, I might consider making some; however, since I've got next to no experience in LDD or programs that'd easily enable that sort of thing, it'd be a big undertaking for me. Also, not all of my older Dragon Lands sets are still extant, since I have to scrap much of what I build to use the same pieces on the next wave. (The central models of 64018, 64019, and 64020 from the first wave are exceptions to this, because I really adored how they came out and I wanted to keep them together.) I've considered making pictorial instructions for my basic dragon frames a few times; those would be really easy for me to put together, compared to other instructions. Would you guys ever want to see something like that, or is there only interest in set-specific instructions? Also, The Cook, feel free to make the 64019 LDD model available to people. I know I'd love to see how close you got to the real thing!

Because Bycougars has been one of my strongest supporters/advocates here, which I've appreciated, little though I follow this topic. I'm glad that my Minas Tirith project reaching the review stage has given y'all stuff to keep discussing in regards to its chances, the future (if there is a future!) of the LOTR line, etc. Even if my project doesn't become a LEGO product, I'll be forever grateful and impressed that it got as far as it did.

Howdy guys! This is the topic for my "third wave" of (Not) LEGO Dragon Lands. (Not) LEGO Dragon Lands is a MOC series that's meant to be like a new theme of LEGO fantasy; as such, the creations below are designed to be as stable, functional, and reasonably-sized as real LEGO sets. The creations I make in my "themes" (I've done several like this in the past) are designed to complement each other, and be highly playable as a cohesive theme. Like I said, this is the topic for the imaginary third wave of Dragon Lands (wave one can be seen in-depth here, wave two here, and wave 4 here). This arc is a lot of fun for me because it's a prequel story to the first two. The orc-like Ustokal race and the elegant woodland Faeries - allies of the humans of the Kingdom of Ardun - are in the throes of an age-old war where sorcerers, dragons, and magical artifacts become valuable weapons! For those of you who remember the first two waves, this is all happening a generation before them... Some of the oldest characters, like Althior, Scallow, and Rothut are visibly younger in this story (that was fun to play with!); the Ustokal Vorash is still a prince; the legendary fire drake Radgha - who appeared as an undead dragon in wave two - is still alive. In making this wave, I wanted to implement more - and more diverse - play features in the dragons themselves. You'll see dragons with flapping wings, striking heads, and more; all of that was a real blast to design, on top of creating a few new dragon characters. I've also enjoyed building other types of fantastical creatures this time around, like the Golem in 64030, and exploring new locations and structures. The more I build in the Dragon Lands vein, the more easily it comes; I've just been having a blast with the project so far. Less than half is currently completed as of the time of my posting this topic, but I figured it'd be cool to share some of what I've made so far. All images link to their larger versions on my Flickr. Newest content will be added to the top - keep checking back for more sets as they're published! 64036 Sorcerer’s Gully Pieces: 1228 Price: $119.99 USD Discover the mysteries of Sorcerer’s Gully! Yep, Another "Battle for the Gold Mask" Entry
Nuju Metru replied to Nuju Metru's topic in LEGO Action Figures
It's a prototype color of a piece that appeared in 8694 Krika. I got it at Brickfair VA a few years ago. -
Hey all! It's weird to post two creations so soon after one another, this coming right on the heels of my Uhuraz revamp (my BftGM contest entry). But hey, the Thanksgiving weekend - which entailed being reunited with the bulk of my MOCing pieces - turned out to be a productive one for me. This is a smaller MOC than Uhuraz, but it's a wholly new creation, and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Voila Soraya. She's a BZPower RPG character of BZP staff member GSR's, a feisty Dashi seamstress who, like her submarine bunkmate Nihi (a character who actually belongs to me), finds herself tangled up in an adventure she didn't necessarily sign up for. Soraya's known and adored by the BZPRPG player base for her proletariat charm, her unflappable honesty, and her gift for creating elaborate cocktail outfits for the nobles of her native island. In my process of making a feasible Matoran-sized MOC, I took liberties with GSR's visual description of Soraya. I actually hardly adhered to his description (sorry, Nate!), opting instead to distinguish Soraya as herself primarily with the tools of her distinctive trade. How many BIONICLE seamstresses do you know? Exactly! Building a BIONICLE seamstress was a unique sort of challenge that I eagerly tackled. Creating sewing tools sized right for a Matoran - Soraya carries scissors, a set of needles, a smock, a magnifying glass for small stitches, a tape measure, several spools of thread, and a thimble (I couldn't find anywhere to put a pincushion...) - was the icing on the cake of this challenge; harder and more substantial a test for me was conceiving a stable, flexible, and aesthetically decent Matoran design that could support Soraya's psionic elemental color scheme. As usual, the pictures here link to their larger versions on Flickr. If you'd like to look at the complete gallery, it can be found here. Smile for the people now! Thanks for looking! Battle For The Golden Mask Competition: Entry Thread
Nuju Metru replied to VBBN's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Entry #2: UHURAZ ~ Topic ~ Gallery ~ Uhuraz - armed with brute strength, Shadow elemental abilities, and wicked mind powers - is a dangerous villain indeed! He seeks relentlessly to become the strongest being on Okoto; he's on the hunt for the Mask of Ultimate Power, and won't let anything, or anyone, get in his way. But Uhuraz is also extremely vain... so if you can get him talking about himself, he might become distracted long enough for you to have a chance of escape! Primary Color: Dark Blue Element: Shadow Favorite environment: Dark places, and being on the hunt Masks: Mask of Shadow, and any he can get his hands on! Powers: Shadow Control, Mind Assault Primary weapon: Flail of Darkness Secondary weapon: Shade Blade Signature moves: The ol' Smash-n-Grab, Mental "Fire Daggers" Key traits: Arrogant, ruthless, and greedy -
Hey, everyone! Yeah, you saw it coming: another bad guy, another entrant into the "Battle for the Golden Mask." Seeing these has to be getting old, by now. I'm hoping my cheeky title has separated this entry from the noise, and so drawn your attention (but I mean, you're reading this now so I guess it worked on somebody). I've already entered one old MOC into the contest, but that was just in case I didn't get around to fixin' up the MOC you're about to see. This "BftGM" contest entry version is the latest model of Uhuraz, a highly villainous character of mine that I've had around in MOC form (in various iterations) for a few years. I wanted to make a version of the character that I could legally enter into the contest (Uhuraz's "normal" cape isn't a LEGO element), one also that used some of my (still fairly rare) BIONICLE 2015/prototype elements. Changes from last time include an updated flail, more spikiness(!), the integration of a few CCBS shells, a new cape, and two new accessories (a floating nebulous of energy around a mask, in the 2015 vogue, rather than the bleeding head Uhuraz used to hold in his free hand; and a jagged blade at his hip). Uhuraz's old backstory fits him into not just the old BIONICLE universe, but the old BZPRPG; I figured the character needed a little bit of a backstory overhaul/simplification, at least for the purposes of the contest. So I wrote a little something in the pattern of the new BIONICLE bios: Images all link to the bigger versions on Flickr. You can find the gallery here. Thanks for viewing! Any comments/critiques you have are welcomed.

Battle For The Golden Mask Competition: Entry Thread
Nuju Metru replied to VBBN's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Entry 1: The Abettor Gallery -
I'm about to take such inferior photographs of my copy... nice review, man, very thorough.
-
I'm a huge fan of that version of Minas Tirith, as well; I think it takes the best parts of my version and of another excellent Minas Tirith model on LEGO Ideas and fuses them in a brilliant way. Your favored Minas Tirith Idea has and fully uses the advantage of being built digitally, without the restrictions of one's hobby wallet and the realities of physically existent piece colors. Were a real LEGO set of Minas Tirith to be produced, I'd be delighted if it had the same level of detail and scale as that model does. But, seeing as my so obviously inferior model (after all, Alcarin, if you say it enough times it must be so) is the one with several thousand supporters and real momentum, I think it's impractical of you to keep complaining about its progress. If TLG decides to make a Minas Tirith model based off my Ideas project, I'm sure they will - heck, I'd be disappointed if they didn't - change it a lot to match the high detail standards set by the rest of the LOTR/Hobbit products. I think the fact that a LOTR project, regardless of its quality or creator, has made it this far on LEGO Ideas is something worth celebrating. It shows that fans still want LOTR sets, which - whether or not the project makes it to 10000, and whether or not it becomes a product this way - demonstrates to TLG that there's still an interest in the license.

New LEGO Fantasy Theme -- A MOC Series
Nuju Metru replied to Nuju Metru's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I had to estimate on the prices, since I never took piece counts; for wave two, I'm counting, the better to say what the imaginary prices for the sets should be. Yeah, good point - there are a lot of small sets, and not enough middle-sized ones to build up to the quite large products. This is something I plan to handle better in the second wave. It's some dark green torso, flipped around to hide the printing - I think it's either the CMF Shakespeare or the Mandarin from Iron Man? I forget. Thanks all for your thoughts; if you're interested in seeing the next stage of the project, check out the second wave, which is slowly going public! -
Howdy guys! This is the topic for my "second wave" of (Not) LEGO Dragon Lands. (Not) LEGO Dragon Lands is a MOC series that's meant to be like a new theme of LEGO fantasy; as such, the creations below are designed to be as stable, functional, and reasonably-sized as real LEGO sets. The creations I make in my "themes" (I've done several like this in the past) are designed to go together well, and be highly playable as a cohesive theme. Like I said, this is the topic for the imaginary second wave of Dragon Lands (wave one can be seen in-depth here; wave 3 is here, and wave 4 here). The premise of this arc is that the orc-like Ustokal of the Essoni Desert and the humans of the Kingdom of Ardun, once at war with each other, are faced to join forces to defend their world from a new threat (very Legends of Chima, huh?). A group of Necromancers has conglomerated; they've risen an army of Zombies, and tied lots of powerful dragons to their service, so the good guys are up against quite the challenge! Making this wave took me much less time than the first wave, and much of that was due to the fact that I already had a fairly established dragon design, theme aesthetic, and arsenal of characters to toy around with. A lot of the fun came in expanding a world that I'd already developed in a lot of depth with wave one, and improving things where I could (more versatile and stable dragons, more interesting minifig combos, more vibrant and unique-looking sets). I'm pretty happy with how this wave has come out, and I hope you enjoy it too! 64028 Zuvog’s Warship Pieces: 1273 Price: $129.99 USD Rescue Vorash and the Golden Dragon Chick from Zuvog’s Warship! The master necromancer Zuvog has captured King Vorash and a Golden Dragon chick, and holds them prisoner on his dire warship crewed by the undead!
