  1. This is the piece I was talking about. So they just mass produce the bricks in a big pile then pick them out randomly to put into sets?
  2. Are the bigger sets say 50USD to 100+USD worth it if I only plan on making MOC's. I feel like I would be wasting the effort Lego made into designing the set, if I am only going to gut it for useful parts and and brick filler. Maybe I should buy 2(or any even number) of each set. That way I can have one set built and the rest for MOC's. But that would cost a lot of money. By the time I could afford to buy them they will probably be discontinued. So far I have been buying at least 2 of each set. Well a few I only bought one of, so I was thinking I should get an extra copy of those sets. That way I can have an even number of bricks. So far I have been mostly buying cheap sets. Bought 2 dozers though since they were on sale for 30 USD instead of the usual 40 USD. I guess I could normally buy 2's of small-medium sets. Then buy 2's of the larger sets only if on sale and not fret over any OOP sets.
  3. I have two dozer sets, and I have 12 total yellow triangle archy bricks. 7 of them have a hollow stud on the top, and the other 5 have solid studs. Is that quality inconsistency? one of those two sets are defects? Or do they make both of them, and they use them interchangeably?
  4. I bought a second Dozer kit with the purpose of making it into a tank. Using only bricks found in the Dozer set. and here are the results. Used white paper for semi professional look. The treads and base is about 90+% the same as the Dozer, then the rest I just played around with until I got a suitable look. The only parts I planned out were the side skirts. Unforunately, there aren't enough yellow plates to cover the whole tank in armor. The giant rear plate is to cover the internal uglyiness. Front 3/4 view Bird's Eye View Back 3/4 View Close up on rear skirt Side View Rotating weapon sponsons. Just added the antenna in to add more detail. Although not sure what it really looks like. Seems too small to be weapons. Here is a shot of the bottom. Not too man long plates in this set, so I used 4 longest on the bottom, and connected smaller plates at the top to support the side skirts.
  5. I bought 2 Dozers, so I have 12 of these pieces. However 7 have hollow studs at the top and 5 are solid. Is one of the two types a defect? Or did tthey give me wrong pieces? As far as I can tell they are the same except the solid studs ones are a bit more yellow.
  6. I was working on a heavy weapons team. wanted to make it heavy artillery, but didn't have any suitable pieces and came up with this instead. I don't have a baseplate, but if you guys think that's suitable for this build, I could try making a baseplate out of my plates. I have mostly red, yellow, black and white pieces unfortnately.
  7. Well I changed the Tow Truck's chair to the center and now its fine. The minifig barely comes off anymore. I guess the window brick prevented the minifig from being properly seated into the chair combined with the two studs making the piece incredibly loose.
  8. Well it's a new piece to me. I only have childhood bricks from over ten years ago and a few sets that I bought within the last week or so. I just got into legos again. Just built myself a dozer and the chair is a tight fit for the minifig. Perhaps the fact that the Tow Truck's chair is right next to the door rather than the center. So the window brick prevents the minifig from being completely seated. When my cousin gets home, I will see if adjusting the chair to the center will stop the minifig from popping out. In fact I made this account the day after I started buying legos again.
  9. Looks awesome. I was thinking of making transforming stuff in the future. Did you have to plan it out ahead of time? Or did you just experiment around with pieces until you found something interesting and stuck to it?
  10. Well his minifigs from other sets don't pop out from rough play. So basically rough handling + two studs only = not so great chair. I imagine if you don't move the truck around much the minifig will remain seated. It's not like I was saying anything bad about the piece. I looked through both the tow truck review threads and no mention of the chair piece. And if you are wondering what is the point of this topic, well where else am I going to talk about the lego chair piece?
  11. Well if you make the background out of legos, you could cheat and have some connecting pieces from the wall to your MOC. Obviously, angles would be limited or you would need some nice pic taking skills to avoid having the support bars in the pic.
  12. I guess my cousin just plays with it too roughly. He is 5 years old afterall. The minifig always pops out when he plays with it.
  13. My cousin just got the City Tow Truck set yesterday. When I built it, I noticed the nifty blue chair brick. Then saw that it only has two studs. I thought I am sure it will be properly seated. But lo and behold, the minifig gets loose rather easily. That's a shame. I still want to buy the set for myself though.
  14. I was thinking of getting multiples of this set for the minifigs, but the base plate has glue all over it? What am I going to do with all those tic tac toe boxes? I guess I could try making mini dioramas. And if they is big enough to close with minifigs on it (any owner would like to confirm/deny?), I guess the box provides easy storage. EDIT: So to the people with multiples of this set, what do you do with the extra boxes?
  15. The handcuffs seem fragile. I was building the police helicopter and when trying to get the handcuffs in the storage box like shown in the instructions, I noticed there was warpage in the plastic where I was bending. A small but distinct white warping of the plastic. I definitely intend on getting this set, or a few of them. Multiple squidmen can serve as alien bounty hunters/mercs/etc for future MOC's. I am going to be have three Frenzy's by wednesday.
  16. Own sets so they are more generic and lend themselves better to original MOC's. But bottom line, I don't care since I just buy sets to gut them for parts/techniques. I might get some Star Wars sets for the parts, but am hesitant since I wouldn't know what to do with the minifigs. Wouldn't sell them because I could never part with my toys except in the garbage can lol.
  17. Well it's the same as bag building except for sets where there is more than one bag. I took my pics, so now I can open the bag and finish building it, take some more pics then dissemble it for MOC's.
  18. Could you post close up pics of each individual minifig? Can't really see the detail with them bunched together.
  19. Not the same thing, but partial bag builds of Stone Chopper and Cannon Battle .
  20. Well it's lego, so it doesn't have to be that realistic.
  21. I am sure posting in old threads is not a good idea, but I had a quick question about Gold Tooth's motorcycle. Does the T-connector do anything in the bike? Doesn't seem to connect to anything. Not that I can get it out anymore.
  22. That looks awesome. I definitely see myself picking one up. For the cyclops minifig and cool helmet, the giant laser cannon, and the nice yellow bricks. Plus the the truck bricks look awesome and useful.
  23. I only use Lego pieces. Although I have some megablocks which I foolishly bought as a child. Man they are not as good as legos. I am hesitant to throw them out, but I am definitely never using them. As for the studless vs non studless, I will make MOC's of both. Since I am going to focus on WH40k MOC's focusing on Orks, and maybe some Imperial Guard later. Since they are shoddy architects, I don't have a problem with studs all over their tech. I am going to see if I can figure out how to creatively make studs show up on the sides as rivets, dents and other types of small detail on the vehicles. EDIT: And as for products such as brickarms, well its way too expensive for my tastes. I would rather spend that money on more bricks to make my own weapons.
  24. Well I ran out of bricks, so I expanded from mostly red to yellow and black. Getting new sets soon. Which are mostly yellow and green. So that probably won't help much in the color department. But I intend on picking up a few fire truck sets later on for more red bricks. Well once I get more red and black bricks, I am going to make it mostly red and black. Replace gray pieces with black if possible. And have a checkerboard camo paint scheme. And then maybe try and make some sort of pattern like a fireball or a skull out of yellow pieces in the side or something. But I am going to need way more bricks for something like that. It's going to take me more bricks and more practice to make better creations. Minor update for now. A grot has joined the boyz. Size comparison A boy has grown into a nob and may become a warboss once his crew grows large enough. Nob pics Close up of his big shoota Close up on his power klaws Grot working on the newest addition to the trukk.
  25. Yea that does. Thanks a lot.
