That's one of the nicer toilets I've seen. Any chance of a close-up/partially built photo showing how you did it?
-
Now THAT is a lot of cheese.

Remarkably enough, I managed to remove the batteries (or perhaps a parent did?) from both the train power supply and also a stand-alone battery box that came with a lights pack. Train power supply still lights up the 2x2 brick lights, so it does appear to be the motor. And yeah, I'll probably replace the motor eventually, but in the meantime the loco has a spot of honor in a small park near the tracks. Must take a photo...

Uh-oh, Jasper - do I see another awesome MOC in your future? :)
-
I do want it to look nice, but don't want it to totally consume the budget, at the same time. :) I think ya'll are right - I should bite the bullet, buy the baseplates I need and build up one plate - then I can fill in as bricks permit...

Hello, Relatively new AFOL here, escaped the dark ages just in time for Cafe Corner. My son and I got a pile of track, the Cargo Train (his), and the Emerald Night (mine) for Christmas. So we pushed three coffee tables together, got out some 80's era road plates, and were ready to make a town with the modulars and some other odds and ends. I was happily snapping straight track along the side of the baseplates (it fits the old ones quite nicely), feeling good about the whole thing, until I got to a curve. Uh-oh. Now what? I guess my options are: * remove all track from baseplates - which I don't want to do, because my table is just barely three baseplates wide, and I can't really secure it next to the baseplates, since these baseplates are (obviously) not a full plate high. Plus having baseplate in some areas offends my sensibilities in some way. * Raise all of the track up by one plates on top of the base plates. So straights would have another 2x8 underneath, and I'd support (but not really secure) the curves with a tile on the base plates. That'd require a big pile of plates I probably don't have (except in primary colors), but I guess is the better option. * Something else? Thanks for any ideas/examples of how to make this work! p.s. To borrow from the Town thread, here's my first train: It was still running when my son got me out of the dark ages a year ago, but now the motor has failed. Bah.

Lovely MOCs. Can you tell me how you did the windows on your black building? I like it, and I don't recognize the parts used. Thanks!

LOL. Thursday is Thanksgiving day here in the US, and is the /actual/ holiday. Friday is not even an official holiday (although schools and many adults will have it off if they don't work retail), it's just the day the holiday shopping season semi-officially starts, and sometimes the best day for sales. (Although the day after Christmas can be better...)

Sometimes the banner is OK, I was guessing it was server load, maybe, although only the banner seems to be affected. I loaded up my virtual shopping cart, and the 10 off 100 discount isn't applying, either. It's saying that Fire Brigade doesn't cost more than $100, up at the top, and so doesn't qualify for the discount?? (Mind you, I'd buy TWO if that were correct. Alas, it shows the normal price in the total.) Nice job, LEGO, perhaps I will try again in the morning. Perhaps. (Ok, ok, I'll try again in the morning, but I'm annoyed.)
-
OK, so it's apparently Friday now on S@H-USA. The discounts are posted, and there's a link for additional discounts, but it's showing me the same 4 uninteresting items on sale that have been there for a week. Ya'll seeing the same thing? Cached page?

It doesn't seem like too much brown to me. :)

Wow. Just wow.
-
Wow, these are lovely. I'm impressed by how much you fit into that space. When I tried to do the Cafe Corner interior, I spent a bunch of time swearing about how it was too small to fit anything in. You've inspired me to try again. :)

So am I. I assume we'll both get better at it. :) Don't forget a whole bunch of extra tile and plate in order to make the building modular, as well....
-
... But don't I remember some discussion from a couple weeks ago about how the UK PaB was by weight, not by cup? If so, no amount of cup packing will improve the price Eskallon gets.

I had the attic windows from a BL order (they were cheap and looked vaguely useful). I had the baseplate and the large black & white plates for the floor of the upper levels. I had various (some old and ugly) white brick around for the attic tower. I had those large white windows from the windows service pack ($13, but I don't think I'd spend the money on it again, lots of useless parts). Some of the small windows were from the same service pack, the rest were scavenged from an 80's era fire station. (The tabs are hidden on the inside.) I ordered the dark bley tiles from PaB online. That's maybe $5-8 in tiles? (Didn't count 'em.) The rest came from two large PaB cups ($15 ea) from the Charlotte LEGO store, including stairs, those brown columns, and a huge pile of 1x2 and 1x4 brick in grey and brown, plus a bunch of tan panels for the hidden sides not visible in the photos. [i got a bunch of other stuff in those cups that I did not use in the moc as well. So maybe call that one cup's worth?] And I pulled various other small bits out of misc 80's vintage stuff I had sitting around. And of course, you're looking at TWO 10199 sets. So total cost? Not much different from a modular set, although now I have a big pile of green plate since I didn't build the second tree, and of course I have a whole second set of minifigs, too. And it was fun. :) I'm still somewhat stunned by how many bricks building to the modular standard actually takes! I thought I was getting enough grey brick in my PaB cups to finish my motorcycle moc, and I ended up with barely enough for THIS moc. Pictures/link please? (I've been thinking about doing something similar, but I'd need a big pile of brick, there's so little in the town plan set, and buying two of THEM seems a bit daunting on the wallet.)
-
Charlotte is 7.99 and 14.99, which I think is typical.
-
Awesome. Your photo with your black car and the original one make that original one look like a hearse! Yours is so much better!
-
Thanks! I was really lucky to find those brown pillars and 1x2's and 1x4's at the Charlotte PaB last week. And a big pile of grey 1x4 and some tan panels, that you can't see, on the back side. I'm still going to need a BL order to finish off some remaining odds and ends. It's pretty similar (downstairs) to the original, although larger, obviously. I need to find some more micro build ideas (anyone?) for more toys - still have a few spots empty. The interior photos I have aren't coming out very well, so I haven't posted them yet. (But I will, I just need more light first!)
-
Thanks! :) I like your MM-TS mash-up as well! Yeah, I actually have the chimney built on the ground floor, but haven't quite managed to get it extended to where you can see it above the roof line. It got tricky.. I'm considering a rebuild to put it at the back corner where it'd be at least partially visible from street. Expanding the building made the roofing issue with having a chimney more complex than I'd anticipated.
-
Here's my first modular moc/mod to come to more-or-less completion, although I still have some work to do on the second floor, and I might still decide to rip it apart and mirror the lower floor.... the joys of LEGO - it's never really final! It still amazes me how many more bricks are required for modular buildings than classic! Tiling's a bit funky - I blame the 3yo KFOL who helped.
-
Oh, is *that* why the Charlotte PAB has those goofy curved pink plates? You planning ahead? ;) (Seriously, though, I had a BLAST visiting the PAB last week - if only I'd filled a third cup - starting to run out again!)

How many Brick Separators do you own?

They're like MAGIC for stuck plates, which is mighty essential when you have a three year old KFOL who likes to tile things - randomly. -

One, it's green, and I LOOOVE it. How did I ever manage without it? (Oh wait, I just have to look at my pre-dark ages bricks to answer that...) -
Pretty good haul. I got this in my large PaB cup: 97 1x4 tiles brown (reddish-brown?) 4 stairs black 8 panels trans-clear 8 1x4x6 door frames black 9 trans-clear doors 4 1x8 tiles blue 5 flags 12 1x1 plates, round trans-blue 6 grates white 9 1x4tiles green 10 cockpit tiles (1x2) 44 1x4 bricks lt bley 35 1x4 bricks brown 32 1x2 bricks brown 24 corner bricks 2x2 dk bley 24 1x3 bricks lime 24 1 x 2 bricks lime 73 1x1 plates, round lime Total: 428 parts. Guess-timate bricklink price: $29, online PaB $76 And there were STILL voids in the cup. I only had 1/2 an hour before closing, so I was rushed. Unfortunately, I missed out on the plants - may have to stop back in on Friday on the way back north...
