  1. It has some really weird proportions - it looks way to short for what it's equipped with. I won't buy this, if the finished product looks like that. Bet it'd be popular with kids, though.
  2. So somebody actually cracked it, eh? Does it still have its major flaw, or has the switching mechanisms been improved?
  3. I've read the PDF, so I'm not going to spoil it for you. There's a really neat layout trick demonstrated in it that I am yet to see used in large display layouts. I'm going to see if I can get my fellow LUG-members to use it for the layout we're going to display next year. Other than that I just skimmed through it. I'm not that hardcore of a train-fan, even if my Brickshelf folder suggests otherwise.
  4. Velkommen skal du v
  5. Welcome to Eurobricks, Daniel! I hope you'll find Eurobricks as nice and comfortable place to be as your own home. :-) And just like on Brikkelauget, don't be afraid to ask for help or advice - people here are as helpful and friendly as they can possibly be (We have to, we've got both sith and a jedi watching our every move :-P ).
  6. That set, I'm going to buy in multiples. Love all the windows, I don't have many of those. To anyone familiar with danish vacation-culture; does this set also remind you of the typical danish summer houses?
  7. Steve Witt has confirmed that the new trains will be as backwards compatible as possible (within reasonable limits). The new rails, if new at all, will interconnect with the previous rails (L-Gauge will live on). The system change is nowhere as drastic as the jump from 12V to 9V in 1990, and compatability with acessories in other product lines (such as aux. motors) is a big plus in my book.
  8. I have to agree with Sinner here; LEGO is indeed giving us plenty of time to stock up on the items crucial for the 9V trains. Not that I will do so, I'm interested in this new system. I have to admit, I was a bit puzzled when LEGO released their new power functions system so close to the RC-train system. The two systems are only compatible by converters, and the PF-system is superior in practically every aspect - it's much more compact (except for power-supply), more customisable and cables have less resistance. The RC trains being replaced with PF trains was, now that I look at it, inevitable. Besides, we might see a price reduction as well on all the electric components, now that they are used more universally. (On a side note, Power Functions works wonders for the 8448 Supercar - it now pulls in every gear. I'm considering buying some extra PF-bits to make it fully remote - there's ample space in it for such a conversion.)
  9. Has anyone realised what sort of collectors' value the current RC-trains will command? There's two, and that's about as many as there ever will be, with the system has a whole only lasting three years... BTW; I just updated the Wikipedia article on LEGO Trains - nothing major, but let me know what you think (and do the necessary changes as you see fit, but no vandalism!)
  10. I'm having mixed feelings. It's the end of both 9V-trains and RC-trains as we know them, but they say that they try to cater to the enthusiasts as the children. Does that mean the return of the center power pick-up, with a possibility to upgrade battery trains to PF-trains? I do like the possibilty of automated functions, though. It sort of gives me non-existant flashbacks to the 12V-era. Highlandcattle; I have some information about the powerfunctions. The current motors are mind-boggingly strong - I have only the small motor, and I've witnessed it rip the gearbox in the old, green 4x4 apart, and my brother had a blast when he had the motor power the ferris wheel directly, watching it disintegrate under the torque and speed that motor puts out. So I reckon that it has to be power-hungry. But if we get the power pick-ups back that won't matter. Also; lluisgib, I quoted the first post here in the forums of my local LUG, with link to said post. Hope you don't mind - In fact, I would recommend any members of a LUG to do the same if that's okay with you. Edit; Steve Witt is also answering some questions over at LUGNET. Go check there for some additional information. Edit 2; lluisgib, now that we've got you here. Does this change mean that we finally can get LEDs to light up our trains?
  11. Everything's working now for me as well. Must have been a temporary problem.
  12. Allright, new problem with Brickshelf. Every folder, with no exceptions, are identified as being empty. The tumbnails for the folders still work, and deeplinks also works, but the folders themselves appear empty. Makes it impossible to actually check out others' MOCs. :-( Oh yeah, and this happens when you log in to edit your own folders, as well. |-/ Quick edit! - Now it's completely down.
  13. So what is the police-officer going to do if somebody speeds? Send the dog after them? :-D I like these sets, there's more acessories with them than I first imagined. *y* Edit: Just noticed the new circular piece as well. The small cement mixer uses two of them, and it appears to rotate when the cart is pushed.
  14. As choppy and uneven the animation was, I still think it was fantastic! My fav is probably the drummer going insane, using his entire body to play the drums and cymbals (?).
  15. That truck would suit the definition of "awesome" so well it should have its picture in the dictionary. I am tempted to do the same when my set arrives.
  16. I posted some time ago, a "mini-review" of the 7996 double-crossover switch, which is yet to be linked in the overview. The reasons for posting it inside the train talk thread (try saying that fast :-P) are stated in my post, but seeing as it has relevant information for anyone hesitating to buy one, they should read it, and therefore should have its own link. Edit; D'oh! It's 7996, not 7997.
  17. No, you're not. I'm backing you up. I too, like this plane, and it might even be a catalyst for me getting the passenger plane as well (but not the airport), to hang them from the roof, when time and space allows it. I was actually expecting something along the lines of a super-guppy freighter, so seeing LEGO stick to the "standard" pieces is a pleasant sight. The acessories the plane seems to come with seems nice as well, and the amount of wheels clearly indicates that this is an air-freighter. I haven't decided yet, but there's a chance I might actually start with the airport-theme this time.
  18. You're not the only one. As a student I might once a month get enough time to MOC a little bit, so I end up with lots of ideas in my head. I usually write down or draw my ideas and archive them, so I can get back to them when time's right. That way I don't need to remember them directly, which for me is desirable since I've got other stuff to think about.
  19. <-- I win. I've got the avatar. :-D :-P Same here. There's only so much good stuff one can take in. ;-)
  20. Wow, seeing the pictures the color of the roof it's suddenly a tough call! The black and dark blue keep the building looking "official", so either of them would work. The dark red sure makes the building more colorful, but I think it would look better on another building (a dark green and grey one, with lime accents maybe?). Tan just melts into the rest of the building, and looks IMO, worse than the light grey roof you had previusly - besides, the grey roof actually looks nice when the station is placed next to a building that doesn't have a vast amount of grey in it. Still. fantastic work you do, and then you let us humble people make decisions for you. :-D MOC on! *y*
  21. Yet another fine MOC you've got there. It does indeed look like a police station as well. I would agree with Zeeky, black would look good on a tan building.
  22. Seeing the pic of the tanker bending in the first part of the review, I would think that the tanker should be hit from the other side? Or did you rotate the hinge, so it still should work?

    City 2008

YES! It's been a while since we had a proper semi (in CITY, anyway). Thanks for the quick reply: *y*

    City 2008

A few quick questions: What kind of truck is this? Is it a tractor with semi-trailer or is it a box-truck or? And the color? And how's the fork-lift?
  25. The details really brings the vig to life. The clock is my favourite detail, shows how well-planned the police had planned their razzia! :-D
