  1. Having already built this set, I come to the conclusion that it beats the houses from Creator and even the modular series when it comes to accessories. While Creator houses is usually empty, this is a fully equipped house with a proper toilet! The best part is that it is fully compatible with normal minifigs too! Some pictures with the minifigs enjoying themselves after a long day at Lego City.
  2. I bought 2 Lego sets when I was on holiday in South Korea and was surprised to find that it came with a Lego storage container when I opened the box. There was a large 4 compartment container inside the 4205 police umimog set and a medium 2 compartment container inside Olivia's house set. Do all the sets in Korea come with promotional storage containers? I only found out after I opened the box when I arrived back home in Malaysia yesterday. I was initially surprised to find my police unimog set more filled up than usual as usually City sets have alot of Danish air. To see it came with storage container was an even bigger surprised for me. Darn, should have bought more sets from Korea, but my budget was limited. Not to mention some large sets are cheaper than in Malaysia! The storage container still inside its plastic bag. Promo tag on the plastic bag. Description on the plastic bag. I think the large K logo is the Korean safety standard logo. Some interesting info about Vigor Precision Limited; it is a company specializing in injection molding for gearboxes for toys. So it is likely some Lego parts are made by this company as there is the words "China" on the box of my Olivia's house and police Unimog set. Interesting link I found when I googled this company: http://plasticsnews.com/china/english/headlines-arc2.html?id=1321912078
  3. It could be at the center differential area. It could be that the center differential is mounted the wrong way so it is driving the steering axle instead of the axle to the engine. Happened to me when I was building my Mog. This is somewhere in Book 1 I think.
  4. *** looks at the 4 headed dragon *** My initial reaction was "WHAT THE BRICK!!!:@#@!#!@" As someone who has all 4 four Ninjago dragons, the four headed dragon looks ridiculous! Not to mention it is ugly and very unpleasing due to the color scheme. I was actually expecting the 5th Ninja to have his own unique dragon which comes to the rescue of the previous 4 Ninjas. Also expecting the next chapter in the Ninjago series there will be 5 separate Ninjas and 5 separate dragons. Kinda like the original 5 power rangers and the addition of the green ranger. To see the original 4 dragons get cannibalized like that is shocking. Looking at the original Lightning, Earth, Snow and Fire dragons in my cabinet, I do not think the Green Ninja's dragon can blend in with the original 4. Unless I buy it and modify it to only have 1 head and make it slightly smaller and more proportionate. Even then I will still need to modify the head to suit the white and green color scheme. By the way, I have seen before a post where there is a picture of a 4 (or maybe more, can't remember) headed dragon which is based on some European mythology. The post used to be in the Ninjago thread I think.
  5. 2012 is the year of the Classic Town set reboot. This 4435 set is the reboot of the 6590 vacation camper set from 1988. Looks great with all the improvement such as:- 1) the lady can finally sit in the same car as the driver 2) There is more room in the camper 3) Creative locking mechanism for the camper 4) Camper now comes with bike, LCD tv and stove 5) .. plus sausages, 2 mugs and a camp fire to spend the night! The only bad point is the car does not have any doors! But I think it is easily fixed provided I can find some yellow door pieces.
  6. I like the design and these sets make a great parts pack! So many useful pieces for MOCs!! The only problem for me is the custom minifigure that is included in this sets. How do I integrate them into my Green Grocer or Grand Emporium? They look like weird aliens in a strange land If TLG had gone with regular minifigures this line is an instant success for both AFOLs and girls. I will wait till the price drops and then buy the house, cafe and salon set to scavenged the parts. Anyone notice the Wall-e in the lab set?
  7. Can someone re-upload the instructions again? the links seems to be dead. As for me I lost all of the pdfs after a HDD problem
  8. For me it is the 6394 Metro Park and Service Tower. The set in my possession is still the original set I had since I was young. The fact it is the only parking garage with a car elevator ever produced makes it my favorite. Not to mentioned all the exclusive printed parts the set has!
  9. Simply unbelievable! Do you own the Takara Binaltech Tracks or Hasbro Alternator Tracks? It would be cool to see both of them side by side with this Lego rendition. I thought it is almost impossible to recreate a transformer let alone an alternator transformer with Lego, but you just made it possible. As an owner of the Takara binaltech tracks the robot mode looks almost like the real transformer!
  10. Fantastic review Rufus! The pictures are excellent! Now that I have an even better view of the entire set, I am more disappointed to see even more short-comings in this set This is coming from someone who have owned and reviewed the 1991 6542 set. I agree with you on the dock, it is simply not right to have it not raised while the small pier for the fisherman is raised. TLG could use some large plates to make the raised portion like those creator sets. The dock "wall" does not have any hooks to secure the ship to the dock. Then again, the ship does not have any hook to tie to the dock anyway. Below is a comparison shot between this set and 6542. Looking at the large green ship, it is very bare and lacking all the accessories or features of other Lego ships. The front does not have an anchor or hook. The superstructure of the ship is terrible as the bridge is open on both sides and the bridge is small for a large ship. There is even no proper way of removing the huge fence pieces other than totally removing it. A hinge cargo bay door would be preferred. It does not help that the captain got to do EVERYTHING I mentioned above on his own Another comparison shot between the green boat and the red ship from 6542.
  11. When I first heard about this set I was excited that I will have another harbor to add to my collection. I already have the 6542 Launch and Load seaport, so it is inevitable that I will start making comparisons with the old set. After looking at this review, my disappointment with this set is pretty much confirmed. Some comments: 1) The dock does not look like a dock at all. At least the 2007 harbor have a raised dock. Of course I do not expect it to use the old railway raised platforms like 6542 but the least they could do is to raise the platform in 1 way or another. 2) The ship is not brick built. Again the priority is to have it float like the old one. Not a big problem but the boats looks bare compared to even the 2007 version. Even the fire and coast guard boat is better 3) Under populated; If you noticed, the captain runs the ship all on his own. The captain does not even have a first mate to help him with running of the ship. Then the poor harbor operator have to control the crane, control the loading conveyor and the house-keeping of the dock. It would help if there is more minifigures. Below is the dock for the 6542 for comparison. Truly a few steps backwards from the old harbor set! Of course there are some good points:- 1) Instead of the usual container terminal, we have a grain transport terminal with a bulk cargo ship. 2) Dockside facilities to cater for grain and bulk cargo3 3) The truck is a nice design But to me this new set pales in comparison to the old harbor sets.
  12. The Space Police was formed after raids by Blacktron invaders on M-Tron and other space assets increased in frequency. An elite contingent of crime fighters was then trained to police the largely uncharted and uncontrolled depths of space. Since the Blacktron invaders is the galaxy's most wanted criminals, no resources was spared in equipping this force with the latest hardware. Most if not all of the Space Police spacecraft are equipped with an experimental propulsion system. This propulsion system leaves no engine or heat signature unlike normal rocket or plasma propulsion system, making it ideal for ambushing the Blacktron invaders. The SP-Striker is one such spacecraft. It is also among the fastest in the Space Police fleet. Those lucky enough to commandeer such a vessel are either very good or very lucky. Set name: SP-Striker Theme: Space Police 1 Year released: 1989 Number of pieces: 230 (from Peeron) Price: Originally retailed for USD 28.00 (from Brickset). Currently at USD 80 for a used set and up to USD 200 for a MISB set Links Brickset Peeron Bricklink My photobucket Box The front of the box shows the SP-Striker in action over a typical space background of the late 80s. On the left side of the box is a light blue colored column. The blue column highlights the 9 Volt light system the same way as the bright orange column on the right of current sets highlight the power functions features. The back of the box shows the alternate models which can be built using the set. All the alternate models use the light system in one way or another. I believe that the 2 numbered pictures should be showing how to lock the Blackron figure into the prison cell instead of releasing him . The box art also extends to the top and bottom of the box. The top part of the box shows how the SP-Striker is separated into 3 different components. If there is something very different from current sets is that there is no 'China' or 'Czech Republic' on the box. Everything from the box to the contents came from Billund, Denmark. The space craft is shown in different poses on the right and left side of the box. The SP-Striker in the 2nd picture appeared to have been turned slightly so that it could fit between the age limits and the large Lego logo. If you noticed closely, the computer panel is not lit up inside cockpit but the light bars are lit. Possible camera trick or Photoshop in those days? Since this set have a 9 Volt light system, TLG also added in a flap to show further information about the 9 Volt light system. A simple easy to understand diagram is used to explain how the 9 Volt system works. Turn the light brick to light up both lights, turn again to have it in strobe mode. Such flaps with diagrams are still used by TLG to explain all the various functions, but seem to be limited to large Technic flagship sets nowadays. It also has a transparent plastic cover to allow any would be purchaser to see the contents. Included is a plastic tray to display the key pieces of the set. It is a shame TLG does not do this anymore I speculate that among the reasons in cost, the labor required to place the items on the tray and also to prevent theft of the critical and expensive parts. Instructions The front page is almost similar to the front of the box, with the SP-Striker rotated 90 degrees to fit the full height of the cover. The rear of the instruction shows 2 different types of alternate models. A random instruction page showing the step where the 9 volt battery is inserted into the battery compartment and a simple picture to show how the 9 Volt Light system works. Good color differentiation between the individual parts shown in each page since there is only black, light blue and trans-red pieces in this set. Unlike today, there is no piece call outs and there are more parts to be added in per step. Are kids this days too pampered or the sets are becoming too hard to built? To be fair even an AFOL like me could miss a part or two. Minifigure We get 2 minifigures in this set; a space police officer and a Blacktron 1 criminal. No weapons or accessories are included in this set unlike today where a gun is a necessity . Apparently the Blacktron 1 villains are not the same bloodthirsty evil aliens we know of today. Both the minifigures only have front printing and comes with airtanks and helmets. The space police officer is common to all Space Police 1 sets .The Blacktron minifigure is common to all Blacktron 1 sets and some Space Police 1 sets where the figure acts as the captured prisoner. The build The build is separated into 3 parts: the cell, front section and light/battery section. Below shows the sequence of construction for the cell. It begins with the base of the cell right up to the hinged ceiling with the laser beams. This is followed by the front section where the cockpit and wings are constructed. This is a proper 'brick-built' spacecraft since the most of the parts are plates, bricks and wedge pieces found in other themes. There is no large individual piece such as the current airplane's cockpit piece fount in the 2010 airport set. Lastly the light battery section is built. It starts with the 9 Volt battery pack followed by the light bars on either side of the battery box. It is crucial at this point that the light parts are properly inserted onto the electric plates and battery pack. This is to ensure that the light bricks lit up when the battery box is turned on. The completed SP-Striker The completed SP-Striker in all its glory. The SP-striker is heavily armed with a wide array of laser weaponry. At the center of the craft is a printed slope bearing the words "police". Like any fast pursuit space craft, the SP-Striker has a low profile, sharp edges and a distinctive dagger shape to zip through the stars. Even today, the space craft in the Space Police 3 set Hyperspeed Pursuit has similar features of the SP-Striker. Looking from the rear of the spacecraft, you can see the prison cell securely mounted at the very rear. The 2 blue rounded 1x1 plate is the switch to turn on/off the light system. No boosters or thrusters can be seen, a typical feature of all Space Police 1 sets. The set designers obviously went for an exotic futuristic design which uses some sort of inertia-less/propulsion-less drive. I believe is that placing a booster or rocket at the rear will impede the installation of the rear prison cell. They could rework the model to have some thrusters, but I believe it would look very awkward and affect the overall sleekness of the model. The cockpit window can be opened in 2 sections and is connected in between by a 'canopy extender' piece. This is the only set where the canopy extender appears in trans-red and only a handful where such a window arrangement is used in official sets. After some look-up on Peeron, such sets where the canopy extender is used include the original Star Wars Slave 1, Futuron monorail, Aquashark Sea Wolf and the Blacktron Battrax. Since TLG has moved on from hinged window pieces for all their current sets, it is very unlikely that such as window arrangement will ever appear in future sets. In the recent Space Police 3 sets, all windows are fixed onto the body of the spacecraft and the entire window will have to be removed to extract the minifigure from the space craft. The cockpit only have a single seat for the lone space police officer who also doubles up as the pilot of the space craft. At the rear of the cockpit is a lighted up computer panel which our police officer can use. Unfortunately the large cockpit window need to be fully up for the police officer to use it. It is obvious that the lighted up panel is for show and not to be used when the space craft is flown by the pilot. By having the window up when the computer panel is used, the space police officer is exposing his back to any attacks. A sneaky Blacktron villain can hijack the SP-striker when the space police officer is using the computer A blue printed 1x2 tile acts as a control panel for the rear section of the SP-striker should the rear part is detached from the main body. The prison cell can be opened to place the Blacktron minifigure inside. The prisoner can stand upright inside the cell. There are 2 printed "police" panels on both sides of the cell a well as trans-red laser beams and window. Although it is laser beams, the Blackron minifigure can still "hold" the bars. Unlike the cylindrical containment pods in the current Space Police 3 sets, this prison cell is not fully enclosed and the prisoner is exposed to the emptiness of space. Fortunately our Blacktron villain is wearing his spacesuit and can breath without any trouble. Also unlike the new cylindrical containment pods, there is no exposed weaknesses that any Blacktron or evil space aliens can exploit to release their captured companion. At the rear of the prison cell are 2 hooks to attach the cell space craft. To attach, the cell rests on its back and pushed into the rear of the SP-Striker. The cell is held firmly by the 2 hooks and will not easily come off no matter how hard the SP-Striker is flown around. Attaching and reattaching the the prison cell is easier than doing the same for the Space Police 3 containment pods where you need to insert the pod into a technic beam using a technic pin. When the containment pods is removed, part of the technic pin will either stick with part of the containment pod or remain attached to the technic beam of the space craft. The prison cell does not break apart when it is being attach unlike the Space Police 3 containment pods which has a gimmick to come part when a 'weak spot' is hit. The light and battery compartment of the space craft can be removed by first turning the handle bars outwards. Then compartment is pulled out until it is free from the front portion. Some effort is needed to pull out the rear compartment as the gap between the battery compartment and the front portion is a tight fit. It is this tight fit that also keeps the battery compartment from falling out from the rear when the space craft is flown around. The bottom wings can be rotated a small degree up and down. I believe that the wings are originally intended to remain in horizontal position as it will hit the light bars and other parts of the space craft it rotated fully in either direction. The light system The SP-Striker comes with a number of the 9 Volt light system components. For the light bar it comes with a twin light brick where the "bulb" is inserted into the light bar. It also comes with a lighted up computer monitor with is lighted up with a single light brick. Like most other 9 Volt light and sound systems, the light bricks are located on top or close by the large battery compartment. Power to the single blub light brick is transferred by placing the electric plates on top of each other to the required spot. Unlike power functions where the light can be mounted anywhere due to the long length of the wire attached to the light, the position of the lights for the 9 Volt system is limited by the amount and size of electric plates in the set. Due to the high cost, electric plates are usually very few in number even for large flagship sets of that time. The lights is not as bright as the LED lights found in power function sets or light bricks found today, but it is sufficiently bright enough to light up the play features in all the sets that came with it. Video of light system in action One of the highlights of the 9 Volt light system is that the light brick have 2 modes. By rotating the light brick around, strobe or constant settings can be selected. Below is a video showing the installation of the 9 volt battery and light bricks in action. In my opinion it is easier to replaced the battery while using the old 9 Volt battery box compared to the large AA Power function battery box. Also the clutch power of the light brick is less than the clutch power of the power functions socket point; I felt that you need quite an effort to remove the wires from the socket point on the power functions battery pack. Conclusion Design: 9/10 The dagger shape design and color scheme makes it easily recognizable as a Space Police I space craft. I do not think the lack of thrusters or any sign of propulsion is a disadvantage as it only makes the Space Police 1 spacecraft more exotic and different compared to the rest. Minifigures: 9/10 The amount of minifigures is fair as there is only space on board for the Space Policeman and a Blacktron criminal. Parts: 9/10 This is a gold mine of 9 Volt light System parts such as the black battery box, 2 light bricks, the computer lit-up panel and a number of 9 volt electric plates. There is also a variety of printed Space police 1 pieces and trans dark red pieces which is very useful for any Space Police 1 MOCs. Build: 9/10 The build is simple and straight forward. There is no conflict of colors in the instructions since there is mostly black, light blue and trans-red pieces in this set. Playability: 10/10 This is where the SP-Striker shines where the light brick adds playability to the set. The lights is turned off when the SP-striker is on patrol but will lit-up when it is on pursuit or carrying a hostile prisoner. It is very swoosh-able since it is solidly built. Price: 7/10 The price is on high side compared to the other Space Police sets of the time due to its high price per piece ratio. The price per piece is higher than all the Space Police sets including the flagship Mission Commander and the Space Lock-up Isolation base. The high price is is due to the inclusion of the 9 Volt light system components. Overall: 9/10 A real classic from 1989. Till today no other Space Police spacecraft comes with the 9V light system that makes this set so special. If TLG would make a similar spacecraft today, it will not have the vintage 9 volt light system but instead will either have the Power Function system or a simple light and/or sound brick. P.S: This is my 8th review on the reviewer's academy 1 more to go before I I reach Gold status
  13. Having owned the classic 4011 Cabin Cruiser, I am disappointed with this new fishing boat. For one thing it lacks the hinged piece to access the lower deck and have no interior inside the boat. It's too bad it does not have an interior because from the front it looks like it has an interior due to the trans-slope piece. They could have made the bridge a little higher to accommodate another deck below. Does it come with a metal weight piece? The original had a 2x8 red brick which acts as a ballast of some sort so that the rear of the boat is heavier than the front.
  14. Thanks for showing the link for the the alternate instructions for the Racer, Concept car, Hot rod and Buggy again. I downloaded the instructions last time when it appeared in the 8448 review thread by Starstreak. The pdfs only show the cosmetics of the car. The mechanism such as the pop-up engine cover of the racer is in the 8448 instruction booklet. I built the Racer model last year. Not sure if it is as per the pdfs as some parts need a wild guess. Below are some pictures of it. The rear engine cover can be opened by pushing against the spring. Side by side comparison with 8880. Will want to try the other alternate models soon.
  15. Here's my entry, a container in Shell livery. There is a clear brick portion to see the contents.
  16. I display some of my Technics in a my glass bookshelf. Just long enough for the 8258 to fit in. But then cannot display all my Technic sets since the modular buildings are fighting for space too. If Blackbird don't mind, below is the link to a thread he posted some while back. It shows his entire collection being displayed in all its glory. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=32383
  17. Bought 8880 and 8868 from a collector who is selling his Technic collection. Quite expensive, but in good condition with manual and fully assembled with all the parts.
  18. The bot and vehicle mode looks fantastic! But I am wondering, it is possible to transform from vehicle to bot and vice versa without dissembling like a Transformer? From the looks of it the bot mode is using Bionicle joints while the vehicle mode is like those Racer sets. It would be amazing if it can transform without dissembling any parts. The minifigures looks like a cheaper version of the Lego minifigure You can make Transformers out of Lego, but you cannot make Lego out of Transformers
  19. This has to be the best train set I have ever seen! Looks almost like the real thing and it comes with 3 containers, 1 container truck and 3 workers with blue hats. Anyone noticed the white container looks like a reefer? Reefers are refrigerated containers used for transporting perishables. How are the containers built? Are they using those 2x1 bricks with groove at the side like those sand green 2x1 bricks in the Green Grocer? Never mind it does not come with track, it looks good even without the track!
  20. Managed to find a Maersk Line container ship 10152 online for only RM 100 = USD 32.00 (based on current exchange rate) with box, instructions and stickers still on the sticker sheet. Shipping included too. The previous owner have not opened all the bags for set yet, so its like a MIB set
  21. The place where I work which is the Masjid Jamek area in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia have alot of shophouses. Most are 2 storey and not that wide. Add in the fact that my father and grandfather used to live in a shophouse, I decided to go ahead and try to build a MOC based on a shophouse. For those who are wondering what a shophouse is, you can have a look at this wikipedia entry It all started with a simple design in LDD (Lego Digital Designer) where I choose a 16x32 baseplate and add white walls all around. I then added in windows, slopes, plates and tiles to finish off the design. Using a 3rd party software, I was able to get the required amount of bricks used and order the bricks. Thanks to Yakimurai, a forummer in our local forum who bulk ordered alot of bricks from Bricklink, I was able to build it for real!! ;) Of course not all the pieces were ordered from Bricklink as I have a large stash of plates and windows. What I did order was a huge amount of 1x6 white bricks and 2x2 grey tiles. :o The base building is simple enough, but I wanted to fit it out so that it will go along with my Green Grocer and Grand Emporium. Since we are long overdue for a bank, I decided to take parts from my Classic Town bank set and incorporate it into my modular shop house. As you can see on the ground floor there are glass doors and large glass windows at the entrance. A large bank sign is placed at the front of the shop. The original windows I choose in LDD was replaced with the large windows from the bank set. Above the front door is a huge alarm horn. I did not change the side and back that much since it will require more modifications to the original design. The other side meanwhile is a full wall. This is assuming of course that the bank is attached to another shophouse. At the rear I have 4 narrow windows in a rising up arrangement. This is because there is a staircase behind the windows. A small door is provided for access to the back lane. Like any modular building, all the floors and roofs can be taken apart with ease. On the ground floor is where the normal banking activities take place. There are 2 counters to deal with the bank customers. Each counter has a seat and a terminal. There is also an atm in 1 corner and a notice board in another corner. A small gate is provided next to the counters to access the area behind the counter. Noticed the rear windows follow the steps of the staircase. Also, the ENTIRE grd floor is tiled! That is why I had a huge order of 2x2 dark grey tiles. Upstairs is a large safe and a security checkpoint. I have not tiled the upper floor yet as I have ran out of 1x2 tiles. :-[ The safe can be opened as shown below. Now our dear man have a safe to store is money after waiting almost 20 years! The previous classic town bank came out in 1990!! Now how does it looks like together with the Green Grocer and Grand Emporium? Quite well I would say!! A view from above Some close up shots. Comments and criticism appreciated :D ;D And yes, some of my bricks are yellow and really stick out like a sore thumb compared to the 'whiter' bricks. I also forgot to order more 1x2 bricks and some inverted slopes for the front. Also for the roof I could not order any 1x3x1 white slops hence some of the parts are using black 1x3x1 slopes. Then I did not order the trans clear pieces for the windows as I have already reached my budget to order the bricks. Other problems encountered was the height of the door; the door chosen in LDD (rear door and the door on the 1st floor) was 6 bricks high while the one I have is only 5 bricks high. The cost per brick/tile was on the high side, but it was worth it!!
  22. After looking at the images of the new harbor sets, these are my thoughts:- Fishing boat: The 2011 version of 4011 cabin cruiser, complete with classic shark, captain, angler with fishing rod and line, white color and the boat floats. Speedboat: Hard to see how it looks like from the image, will have to get a clearer picture to fully decide. Marina: Looks more like a coast guard point than a marina. The blue inflatable boat spoils the scene IMHO. I was expecting a few speedboats or sailing ship to come with a marina like 6543 Sail and Fly marina. Harbor: Now this is interesting; we get a grain cargo ship complete with port facilities to handle cargo like grain. The scooper like crane is ideally suited to scoop grain from the ship. The building is pure classic town right down to the color scheme. I am wondering if the pier is using those raised platforms like harbor sets of 1991s? Interesting take on a harbor set, was expecting another container terminal like the one from 2007.
  23. To me TLG just killed 2 birds with 1 ship; a cargo ship to please those wanting a harbor set and the cargo ship carrying grain in farm liveries to please those wanting a continuation of farm. Remember the image of the red cargo ship I mentioned about in the police boat commercial? I do not think the design of the superstructure of the cargo ship will run very far from one shown in the commercial. I suspect that the team making the commercial got some info about the harbor set, just that the key piece which is the hull is not available in green, only red.
  24. Looking at the advertisements for the new Police set, I didn't know Lego City is full of criminals I'm surprised they didn't overwhelm the police force. Anyway, I noticed in the police boat commercial there is a red brick build container ship, the design almost similar to the one from Launch and Load seaport. You will noticed it as the camera zooms out from the "Legotraz" on the bottom right. Possible hint on the rumored 2nd half set? The container crane however looks to be similar to the most recent one.
  25. The red smart convertible reminds me of a classic 2 decades ago; 6644 Road Rebel. I wonder how will the new one measure up to its father As for the helipad on the new police station, maybe they were thinking of something smaller like the one from 6354 Pursuit Squad. A 2nd half set maybe?
