To me the current Lego City have some really good sets, but some of the sets still fail in comparison to some Classic Town sets which are still superior. Example 1: Red Sports car in Road Rebel vs. Current Red Sportscar Although the old one is only a normal 4 stud vehicle, it has a sleek sloped front, low profile front and rear lights, variable spoiler, radiator grilles at the rear, openable doors, Ferrari-hot red with yellow trim and to top it off there is a tow hook which can either tow a bike trailer or any other similar height trailer! And it is build in only 7 and a half short steps!! Example 2: Utility Lift versus 2010 repair truck Ingenious scissor lift mechanism, a separate van which you can go about its own way, a trailer which has its own lights and warning signs and can be used by other Town users, printed bricks! Example 3: Metro Park and Service Tower versus..... errr, there has not been any car park set so far Comes with car wash, fully equipped Shell station, 3 storey car park with elevator, 3 cars with one of them a convertible, 1 Shell truck, baseplates which can rotate to change setup Example 4: The good old 9V light and sound system versus..... oh dear, nothing to compete against??!? Light brick which can have blink and light up normally with such a turn-around of the light brick! Sound bricks with 2 sets of sounds by twisting the sound brick dial. Of course the new sets like the farm set, crawler crane, tower crane as well as the pizza corner with the bus is a nice addition to the lego town, but to me the old sets are way more superior

What made you get out of your LEGO dark age?
paanjang16 replied to BearHeart's topic in General LEGO Discussion
It took me a browse through a thread about Lego in my local forum that my dark age ended. Was browsing through the thread and the posters was talking about the new 09 sets. That time it was early Jan 09 and people where taking photos of the 09 sets which was on display in our local Lego Shop. The set that got my attention was the 7632 Crawler Crane from the City theme. It is so realistic!!! I pass by a large construction site everyday to work and back and there is always one of this machines on site, and to see 1 in Lego form was amazing! So I then bought the set and brought it home, to the amazement of my brother and his friends in my house at that time (It was Chinese new Year then, and my brother's friends came to visit him). Then came the Thunder Driller with the counter-rotating drilll. Again I bought it due to its realistic (ok, the drill is) design. After I got this, I got the Lego fever. I proceeded to dig my store to get all my vintage lego sets. After that came the 8448, Grievous Fighter, Sith Infiltrator (new one),Motorised Dozer, Monster Dino, 8258, vintage sets, Galactic Enforcer, Robo Attack, Ariel Defence unit and most recently a vintage Launch and Load Seaport!! Am I overbuying? -
Thanks for the review of this 2010 set! To me this set is a step backwards from another street lighting repair vehicle, the 6671 utility lift. Reason being:- 1) STICKERS!!!! The original one had printed electric pieces 2) The usability of this set is limited to street lighting or fixing high objects. Typical lego residents cannot use the lifts unlike the old one.

Review: 8971 Aerial Defense Unit
paanjang16 replied to starstreak's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Got this set when it was on clearance (60% off!). I was on holiday in New Zealand and on my way from Auckland to Rotorua and somehow stumbled into Farmers Hamilton along the way. Greatest Lego purchase ever! My parents told me I looked like I strike the lottery! Fantastic chopper with amazing features such as the twin rotor blades and dual zip line. Which is great for bungee jumping!! Very big too! Size comparison with 8258. A video I made to show how the twin rotors work. Ingenious I must say! -
INDEXED Thanks to the spare parts I ordered online and some "borrowed" parts from other sets, I managed to rebuild this set from 1989 ;D This shall be my 5th Academy review INTRODUCTION Went into service in 1989, the Utility Repair Lift was an ingenious solution to a common problem in Lego Town; how do one repair the faulty street lights which are slowly becoming more and more common along the streets? Utilizing a clever scissor mechanism, the lift can raise the platform high enough for a repairman to access the street lamp assembly without the need to bring down the whole street pole or "borrow" a lift from the fire department. Due to its simplicity and ease of use, almost anyone can operate the utility lift. Being mounted on a trailer with a standard tow hook also means that it can be used to various other purposes and towed by any vehicle with a common tow hook. Now after 20 years serving the then Lego Town and the current Lego City, it continues to serve for many more years to come. Set name: Utility Repair Lift Year Released: 1989 Theme: Classic Town Number of Pieces: 92 (according to Peeron) Price: USD 20 for a used set, up to USD 200 for a MISB set Links Brickset Bricklink Peeron My Photobucket THE BOX The box is a typical Legoland box with yellow. There seem to be power lines in the background, showing a possible "electric power" line of Town sets. Box picture taken from Peeron. THE INSTRUCTIONS A random page from the instructions showing how the scissor lift mechanism is constructed and alternate builds. Scan taken from PICSL. THE BUILD PROGRESS You start off with the red and yellow truck. The construction is typical of any 4-stud vehicle of the era. Construction then proceed to the trailer with the scissor lift. The final step is to add in the minifigure and link the trailer and truck together. THE MINIFIGURE The Minifigure is has blue overalls and a blue cap; a typical Lego Town worker during this era. The worn out print of the torso shows how often this set used to be played by me. THE COMPLETED SET The little truck is a 4-stud wide vehicle with a 1x2x2 panel that has an electrical utility logo on either side of the truck. The logo is printed onto the panel and only appears in this set. Meanwhile it has a small open truck bed in the rear for the spanner and mallet. Other features include a pair of yellow lights on top of the cab and an antenna at the rear. Moving onto the star of the set, the utility lift trailer consists of the scissor mechanism, warnings signs mounted on yellow hinge pieces (in this case I have to use a grey hinge piece because I am missing 1 yellow hinge piece) and safety bars on either side. The trailer has 2 sets of wheels to allow it to remain stable should the trailer be detached from the truck. JUST ANOTHER STREET LIGHT REPAIR Upon receiving a complaint about a broken street light, our repairman heads to the faulty street light. Street lights are usually 10 bricks tall, which is ideal for our utility lift. Our repairman looks out from his cab to make ensure that the lift is just at the right spot next to the street light He then deploys the warning sign and arrow sign to inform other road users that some maintenance work is going on. By turning the signs into position, the signs also double up as stabilizers. This ensures that the lift will not tip over when it is fully extended. A spanner from the truck's open bed shall be used to fix the light this time. More tools can be stored in the open bed of this truck. Time to get onto the platform! Using the handle bars on either side, the repairman safely climbs onto the platform. Once on the platform, he raises the platform to the desired height. Careful not to bump your head on the street lamp! :o A motorist then passes by our dear friend during the repair. Again, the warning signs and yellow lights ensure that other motorist are informed of his presence and know how to pass him. As it begins to get dark, the repairman folds back the warning signs and get ready to head home. Another street lamp repaired today! A DAY AT THE AIRPORT A call came from the operator of the Lego Town airport that one of their radar stations were malfunctioning and in need of repair. Our repairman was there the next morning to have a look. Reaching the site, he positioned his trailer as close as possible to the radar dish and removed the safety barriers on his trailer. The safety barriers are to prevent any curious onlookers from getting to close to the scissor lift. The safety barriers also have lights mounted to make it easier to notice. Our repairman slowly raises and rotate the platform to get as close as possible to the radar dish. The scissor lift can only rotate once the safety barriers are removed from the trailer. Now he can repair the faulty radar dish as the airport operator oversee the repairs. Of course, the benefit of a scissor lift is that you can position the platform off center to further reach wherever you fancy. The signs at the back of the trailer keeps the trailer stable although the center of the platform is not between the 2 pairs of wheels. OTHER USES The versatility of the utility lift trailer allows ordinary folks of Lego Town to rent the trailer when they require it. For example the owner of this red sports car wants to fix his garage roof. Since his sports car has a tow hook, he can tow the trailer to his place and instantly deploy it. Other times some building contractors rent the trailer for their own purposes. In this case the trailer can be hooked up to the front loader to a construction site to assist in the installation of new lights in an underpass. Our repairman can go about other repair with his truck although he is not towing the utility lift with him. Even on its own, our red and yellow repair truck stands out with the large electrical utility sign on its side. CONCLUSION Design: 10/10 The design of the scissor lift is pure genius. Its too bad that such a scissor lift is not implemented further in Classic Town. The trailer with the warnings signs mounted on hinges which also doubles up as stabilizers when deployed is also another another design accomplishment for this little set. Parts: 9/10 There is a wealth of red and yellow parts as well as the printed panel which is unique to this set only. The printed panel with the electrical logo is extremely useful for any MOCs concerning electricity utility vehicles. Playability: 10/10 Repair the street light, repair the roof of the garage, fix the elevator in Metro Park and Service Tower or rescue a cat on a tree, the utility lift's versatility allows it to be in numerous scenarios. The truck and trailer can be played on its own and also other Classic Town vehicles with a tow hook can use the utility lift. Minifigure: 7/10 Standard Classic Town minifigure in blue overalls. TLG could have added in a minifigure with an electric symbol on its torso however. Overall: 10/10 This is another one of those little Lego sets which holds itself up so well that even by today's standards, it surpasses anything produced by TLG currently. So far there are no other City or Town sets which utilizes the scissor lift mechanism as used in this set. It would be great to see TLG produce another set that utilizes a scissor mechanism as there seem to be an empty niche of small utility lifts which can be deployed anywhere and inside buildings.

TECHNIC Sets from 2010
paanjang16 replied to LordGalewind's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
For the 8053, I am guessing it is something like a 4 wheeled rough terrain crane such as the Tadano rough terrain crane. The real thing have 4 wheel steering, 4 outriggers, telescopic boom and small enough to be anywhere. An example is in the picture below. I seriously think it will be such a crane, as previously we had a mini rough terrain crane (set number: 8270) with a tower crane as the B-model!! Coincidence? 8052 sounds too close to 8258 with a container bed. Unless the crane mechanism is simplified or the scale is drastically reduced, I think the only way for a container truck to have a crane with enough space left for the container is to have a foldaway crane like 8258. -
I have some questions regarding the availability of Power Functions items:- 1) Will TLG release a set containing the IR receiver and IR remote control like the Monster Dino and motorized bulldozer? 2) Will TLG come up with an "IR control" add-on pack like the current power function pack? 3) Is it possible for local distributors and stores to sell Power Function motors, IR receivers, extender wires like on Shop At Home? I am asking this questions coz here in Malaysia we do not have Shop At Home and the only way to get such items is either:- 1) Hunt down a monster dino or motorized bulldozer- both hard to find and the latter is expensive. 2) Go to Bricklink and buy them second hand - very risky since we do not know if it will work, also need to ship it half way across the globe We already have a Lego Shop of sorts, managed by Brickboy and sells nothing but Lego. But obtaining power functions parts such as the IR receiver is extremely hard as they do not sell PF motors and receivers.

This is my fourth review that was certified by the academy. This time I will review the amazing Thunder Driller from the Power Miners line. The backbone of any Power Miner's operation, the Thunder Driller is usually used to drill new tunnels before any other Power Miners mining machine arrives. Its diamond coated titanium cast counter-rotating drill can drill through any rock it encounters. The loud noise produced when the drill is in operation is often said to be as loud as thunder, hence its name. Set Name: Thunder Driller Set Number: 8960 Year Released: 2009 Number of parts: 235 Theme: Power Miners Price: Ringgit Malaysia (RM) 180.00 = USD 53.40 in Malaysia, Usual price in the United States is USD 30. MORE INFO Brickset Peeron My photobucket THE BOX The front of the box shows the Thunder Driller in action. A Power Miners appears to be running away after taking the crystal from a rock monster. The back of the box shows the key feature of the drill as well as an alternate build. From the back of the box the drill will spin 2 ways when the Thunder Driller is pushed forward. The alternate build shows that I need 8958 Granite Grinder to build the alternate model. The top of the box showing the minifigures included in this set. In this set we get the sneaky and curious Firox rock monster! As proof that Lego shows its products larger than it is, the rock monster is smaller than what is illustrated on the left. THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL The front of the manual is the same as the box. A random instruction page showing the connection of technic rod to the drill piece. Finger to hold the drill piece not included in this set. Parts list at the back of the manual MINIFIGURES The minifigures have printed torsos both front and rear, printed legs and helmets with aviator goggles. The Power Miners Doc is on left with the star on his torso while Duke is the one with the Power Miners icon. Both minifigures have another printed face at the rear. Lastly, the rock monster with its transparent orange body and printed sinister angry eyes. PARTS Power Miners introduced some new parts such as the large 8x8 wheels and 8x8 cones with spurs, the drill bit and many other lime green parts. There are no printed pieces as most use stickers. The lime green panel fairing, wedge, slope brick 8x8 and the black 2x2 plate are covered by stickers, which is a shame really since this set could be the best selling Power Miners set produced by Lego. Note the new red hot dynamite piece! ;) LEFTOVER PARTS Below are the leftover parts left. Lots of 1x1 plates and technic pins. KEY FEATURE The key feature of this set is the Thunder Driller which consists of a planetary gear system. A planetary gear consists of a sun gear at the center, planet gear in the middle and a ring gear on the outside. The arrangement is that when the sun gear spins, it will turn the planet gears. There are 2 planet gears on the planet carrier (the grey 5 hole technic beam). The planet carrier remains still and hence the gears will turn the ring gear (the large 8x8 technic wheel with internal gears). THE FINISH SET The finish set with all the minifigures. The Thunder Driller is large and imposing with its large drill. If you are a rock monster, the sight of a large monster with a HUGE rotating nose will make you run! Imagine the large headlights shining/looking at you! Between the 2 front wheels you can see the gearing to transfer the wheel movement into the engine compartment. Looking front the side, there are 2 exhaust pipes coming out from the engine compartment as well as the panels to protect the front wheels. The vehicle seem to have the "torpedo" look on it. The cockpit for the Thunder Driller have a 2x2 monitor, 2 control sticks and a flame coming out like a furnace on a steam locomotive. The cockpit is quite open with only a ladder-like cover above their heads; not exactly the kind of protection you expect in case of a cave-in. But such as design allows for easy access to the minifigures and the Power Miners to look out for pesky rock monsters. A side cut-out view of the cockpit when Doc and Duke is at the controls. If you noticed the flame coming out from the engine, the position of the flame is aiming right at the sensitive area of our Power Miners! Careful not to go to close or you might get cooked! On top of the engine compartment are 2 large headlights and engine details. The long 6x1 dark grey detail between the head lights is a sticker. A chain is provided to lift the engine cover I think. To me there is sufficient details on the engine cover, although I feel that everything should be printed instead of using stickers. A top down view of the Thunder Driller. When we remove the engine cover.... ... we can see the inside of the Thunder Driller's engine compartment where another set of gears is used to transfer the motion from the wheels to the drill. The interior is surprisingly empty with no engine or machine or any sort. TLG could have added some details like an engine block such as the one found in the Claw Digger. With such a large empty space, one could use it to store crystals or make it into a crew compartment. When the driller is not in play, all the accessories and the rock monster can be placed inside the engine compartment. CONCLUSION The Power Miners got off to an amazing start with some of the best vehicles ever designed by Lego. Among them is the Thunder Driller with its signature counter rotating drill which made it one of the best introductory sets to the Power Miners theme. A must have for anyone wanting to start collecting Power Miners! Design: 10/10 Very rarely a toy mimics its real life counterparts and look so good Playability: 9/10 No matter where it goes, this set will drill. The engine compartment can have some parts though Minifigures: 9/10 Two miners to drive and guide the machine plus a rock monster to cause trouble Parts: 9/10 The new drill piece, large wheels, the lime green parts and the new red hot dynamite piece allows for lots of mining MOCs. Price: 8/10 The price to parts ratio is a bit higher than a normal City or Creator set, but not excessive. Overall: 9/10 Another gem from Lego. Just getting it for the planetary drill is worth it! This machine may not be the most offensive of all the Power Miners vehicle, lacking any claws, net launchers or dynamite launchers, but works wonderfully as a proper mining vehicle. This set loses some points due to the need for stickers where it could have been printed instead. EXTRAS!! Doc: Duke, I thought you said it ran out of fuel! how come it is still running? Duke: Oh, I had a little deal with the rock monster of ours. Doc: : ..... What kind of deal? I don't suppose he brought us some oil? Duke: Nah, have a look into the engine compartment. ;) Doc: Duke: He is willing to "power" our machine provided he gets to keep some of the crystal we find. Now I know why we have this huge hollow engine compartment! Thank you for reading! ;D

Technics is to Lego as Hot Wheels is to Mattel, Transformers is to Hasbro. It would be a great landmark decision to stop Technic. All the large Technic sets are very much in demand. The price for the discontinued sets like Giant Tow Truck, Mobile Crane and even the Motorized bulldozer is going up with no chance of going down. I am sure if Lego re-release these sets people would still buy them since these sets are full of useful parts and is challenging to build. For me, the top 3 largest Lego purchases I made this year was for Technic; 8448 supercar, motorized bulldozer and the new crane truck. Mind you, these 3 sets ain't cheap, especially the new crane truck. As for running out of ideas for Technic, technology changes every year. Even for construction machinery the advancements in technology meant there are always new construction rigs or machines to create. I remember the video 'behind the design' for the motorized bulldozer, the designers researched all sorts of construction equipment to design new sets. I am sure their 'ideas board' is full of photos of construction equipment which they have not made yet. Then you have other things like supercars, 4X4s, cranes, forklifts, bobcats, pilling rigs, motorcycles, F1 cars, large trucks, airplanes, submarines etc. Maybe redo a space shuttle? Technics is here to stay. The fact that those large Technic sets are hard to find and always sold out speaks for itself.

I got my 8258 Crane Truck last week and spend the whole Saturday building it. When I opened the box which is still sealed and new I noticed that there is this "smiling" face stamp inside of the box. Has anyone gotten this before? Is it normal for Lego boxes to have this? Just curious.

Kudos to TLG for giving us something we really want in our armada. I always want something large to challenge the BSB or even the SES, and now we get this ship to even the odds! The the bar has been raise; can it challenge both the pirate flagships? This ship is definitely not in the usual pirate range. To me it is in the UCS/modular buildings range for AFOLs, which is a good thing since it looks solidly built and heavy! Can we expect a UCS pirate ship in 2012 or 2013? When I first saw it I went "HOLY @#@!#@!!!!!"

One require the postman to crawl through the window of the post car to enter while the other can just open the door to get in. Sad but true.

Ya I managed to copy it. Try going to http://www.legoland.cz/index.html and click Lego 2010. Dunno why in google translate in my previous post cannot open the large image when clicked. The link appears to be still working.

TECHNIC Sets from 2010
paanjang16 replied to LordGalewind's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The legoland Czech website have somehow updated the information about 2010 sets. The forest tractor have pneumatics! 8049 tractor with a flatbed on logs - Pneumatic function returns! First model 2010, which can boast of this great technology with a flatbed tractor is the timber, which has articulated crane arm with a mechanical forceps powered pneumatic pistons! It can harness the flatbed and controlled management of the cab - this tractor is a must-have! Source: http://translate.google.ca/translate?prev=...history_state0= So far this source of leaked news is the only one that they did not take down yet -
Looking at the new airport, I can't help to feel how backward Lego has become with their airport sets. The airport terminal is a big mess! There is no luggage conveyor, no security X-ray scanner and the airplane is <insert that tiresome argument>. Compared to this gem from the late 80s. Too bad it is incomplete. The red airplane reminds me of the old one But I am glad that there is a new Octan oil tanker; bout time my old Shell want have some company! Edit: They somewhat took the new pictures off Flicker.

Sad to see that pirates will end so soon. It had a fantastic start with some awesome sets with lots of gold, imperials, lady pirates and the enlarge shark. I hope TLG puts out a UCS double deck 10 gun ship before ending it. But pirates line making way for POTS line have got me a little concern; will it cost more? Simply put, imagine a US 150 pirate ship. How would it be? It is a normal pirate theme maybe it has:- Double deck 6 guns 10 Lego yellow minifigures A LARGE shark mermaid 5 ship sections long But it is a POTS ship for the same price range (assuming it is the black pearl):- Single deck 3 guns 5 skin colored minifigures (Jack Sparrow, Elizabeth, Will Turner, Cpt. Barbossa, Gibbs) No shark (well, they did not feed anyone to the sharks) No mermaid 4 ship sections long The reason the POTS ship has less features coz part of the price tag goes to Disney and to maintain the same price. That is why Star Wars sets are so expensive, part of the cost goes to George Lucas. If given the choice I would rather have the pirate ship without the POTS label and with classic Lego minifigures.

Thank you for all your compliments! The reason I was using the starbucks plastic cup was because it was the only clear and stable holder for the fighter to be displayed for the photoshoot. It is only after I shot all the photos that I realized the green logo was quite clear

As we highly anticipate the new ARC-170 coming out next year, here's a look at the original version from 2005, the year EPIII came out. Will it be better than the new one? Only time will tell. Set Number: 7259 Set Name: Arc-170 fighter Number of Pieces: 396 (from Brickset) Year released: 2005 Theme: Star Wars Episode III More info My photobucket = http://s3.photobucket.com/albums/y100/paan...207259/?start=0 Brickset = http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=7259-1 The boxart The boxart is the Episode III type of boxart with lava splashing and vader's helmet at the top right corner. On the side is a picture showing the S-foil mechanism. The instruction manual Below is the front page of the instruction manual showing the ARC-170 fighter in battle. The fighter is so wide that it has to be almost vertical to fit onto the front page Some random instruction page showing the minifigures and the first phase of building whereby we start-off with the center section. Another random page showing the S-foils mechanism inside the fighter Near the end is a page showing the features of the set; S-foils, bomb release and gunner's compartment. Minifigure This set comes with 3 clone war pilot miniatures and 1 red R2 unit. The torsos of the pilots are printed front and rear as well as thier helmets. The head of the clone pilots are unprinted black heads. Surprisingly, there are only 2 megaphone guns compared to 3 nos of clone pilots. Could it be only gunners can use guns? Parts This set comes with a whole range of printed parts, some of which are unique to this set only such as the sloped printed windows, printed computer with tri-fighter, printed wedge, printed technic disc with Arc-170 engine pattern and printed tile 2 x 2 with DkGreen Half-Ellipse Pattern. It is worth to note that the windows and wedge have a mirror opposite so that both can be used for left and right side of the fighter. Other parts include gears, the clear technic gearbox, elastic bands and technic ball joint for the S-foils. What a wealth of parts this set has!! Construction Building this set is easy as you start out with the center part of the fighter first... .. followed by the left wing.... ...and lastly with the right wing. In the last few steps you will attached both the wings to the center. The S-foil mechanism on the wing. The S-foil mechanism is open and close by turning a T-joint with the technic ball joint. The ball joint will push the S-foils up and down. The elastic band meanwhile keeps the 2 S-foils close together and return to its close position. This elastic band also keeps the S-foils in open and close position tightly when the fighter is flying and making barrel rolls. The finished fighter Once finished, the fighter stands out with its extra long wing span. Although the wings are long they do not fall off easily, making it a terrific toy to fly around the room. From the front, you can see that the S-foils are fully extended and form an "X" wing shape. Also the profile of this ship is very sleek like a fighter and not like a large fat freighter. From the rear there is the tail laser weapon mounted on top of a turntable to shoot incoming tri-fighter. You need to turn the gear to open and close the S-foils. By pulling the gear, you can release the blue transparent cylinders to drop from below the aircraft. The side profile of the spacecraft showing the gunnery compartment above the pilot compartment. From the side the fighter looks short compared to how long the wing is. Another view from the rear with the S-foil gear and engines. The size of this fighter is comparison with the new Sith Infiltrator and Grevious Fighter. It is so large that both the Separatist ships can fit between its wingspan. Pilot and gunnery compartment The there are 3 cockpits whereby the pilots sits infront and the 2 gunners sit in the compartment at the rear. The red R2 droid separates the rear and forward gunner. Apparently the pilot somehow flies the plane without any computer panels or levers. Could he be controlling the fighter with the force? The cockpit glass does not open to let the pilot out, so it need to be removed if you need to take-out the pilot. Behind the pilot is the hole where you insert the blue transparent 1x1 circular bricks into the bomb bay. For the 2 gunners, they can easily enter and leave their gunnery stations as both their windows can open upward and the side windows can open sideways. Both printed tri-fighter computer is placed at the rear and forward gunnery stations. Also the R2 unit is positioned on top of his mounting between the 2 gunners. There are no holders or compartments to store the 2 megaphone pistols, hence somehow the megaphones have to sit on the lap of the gunners. Conclusion This is a massive fighter produced by Lego and is packed with features. Add to the fact that it has printed parts and has details almost similar to the fighter in shown in the movie, Lego has created another iconic Star Wars ship in great detail. A must have for EPIII fans. Only time would tell if the new Arc-170 fighter can do better than this version from 2005. Playability: 10/10. With its sturdy and large wings, this ship allows children (and adults) to enact their fighter flying scenes Build: 8/10 Easy to follow. There are some color issues with dark grey and light grey, but overall it was easy to follow Design: 10/10 Accurate reproduction of the Arc-170 fighter shown in the beginning in the movies. Overall: 9/10 A must have for EPIII fans. ;) More photos

The three City sets you'd like TLG to release
paanjang16 replied to Klaus-Dieter's topic in LEGO Town
I would want: 1) A City harbour set with a gantry crane, a large ship made out of bricks and not a single piece like the latest harbour set, pilot boat to guide the ship in, tugboat, pier which is as solid as those from 1991, a container trailer that can carry 2 containers, 5 containers to play with, forklift etc. In other words, a set similar to Intercoastal Seaport from 1991 2) A petrol station with attached parking tower that has a working elevator, working car wash with 3 brushes (the latest Octan petrol station only has 2), a vacuum cleaner, gas pump with hose, tow truck, 3 cars where one of the car is a convertible, some trees and flowers, large Shell sign on the roof, shop filled with goodies, spare tires, tools, printed signs etc. Cue from Metro Park and Service Tower. 3) Warehouse set with working gantry crane, lots of containers (which can fit into the harbour set) forklift, container truck, supply office with a few workers and computers etc. -
Clone Brick Review: Enlighten Main Battle Tank
paanjang16 replied to paanjang16's topic in Community
I bought 1 from a small shop in 1 of the shopping malls near my area. Apparently this toy shop brought in some clone bricks as an alternative to real Lego which is insanely overpriced here in Malaysia. Our prices are more expensive than our friends across the causeway (Singapore) ! -
Yes, Brickset is great! Managed to look-up and list down all my sets my parents bought for me from the 80s to now. My collection: http://www.brickset.com/search/?OwnedBy=paanjang16

Since there is now an index for clone brand reviews, I thought I might as well post a review of the clone tank I bought some months back. I took these photos a while ago, but dun know if I can post a review of a non-Lego set here. Clone Brand: Enlighten Price: RM 65; about USD 20 Parts: +- 300 pieces The box The front of the box shows it in action with the cannon shooting. The box is smaller and thinner than a similar box from Lego if have the same piece count. The back shows something Lego is rarely to do nowadays, more than 1 alternate models!! There are 5 bags of parts with some loose parts plus the instructions inside the box. There is this HUGE 8x24 green plate for the body of the tank. Instructions The instructions are almost like those from Lego. But the biggest difference is that the parts to be installed in each step is highlighted compared to the rest of the parts which has been built. It is sad that a clone brick company has added some innovation into the instruction instead of Lego. I know times when I would miss some parts since the colors are too similar or there are too many parts in each step. In the pictures below you can see the 6-part tool set taken from Lego and the assembly of turret. The minifigures The minifigures is 1 general and 1 soldier. Both the torsos and helmets are printed with military insignia. If you are wondering why the general's hand is not attached, well it is because you have to push in the hand into the arm, something Lego has spared us the agony of doing since you need to push it HARD! +1 points to Lego for putting in the hand into the arm! The accessories The accessories include 1nos of a 6-piece toolset, 2 M-16s, 1 chrome pistol, 2 binoculars, 1 radio and 6 plastic rods you see on the right. What do these plastic rods do? We'll see in a moment. The tank The completed tank, ready to fight for Lego.. I mean for display. The tank is quite big and boxy at the same time. A large spring loaded cannon is attached to the turret. All the camo pieces and the number on the tank are printed bricks! There is not a single sticker in this set! The hatches you see open to access the driver's seat and the turret cockpit. In the instructions the general sits at the front and the soldier goes into the turret. The turret The turret is equipped with a machine gun, a glass sky roof (which oddly when the soldier sits inside the window have to be open to fit him with helmet is worn), a utility storage rack at the rear of turret and an ammunition storage area for the main gun. Remember the 6 plastic rods? Well all 6 goes there, ready to be fired! Basically you put 1 of these rods into the front of the massive gun, pull back a lever to load the spring and release to shoot the rod. Not really kid friendly since the spring is quite strong and the projectile is small Inside the turret is a complex control panel which is printed. The soldier has a radar system to see any incoming hostiles. The rear of the tank The rear of the tank is feature packed with 2 storage areas for the toolset and a little door for.... ... a mini quad bike! Apparently the rear is empty as there is no engine. So instead of putting in an engine, the guys at Enlighten added in a little quad for the soldiers to escape should the tank is destroyed. The thread skirt Both sides of the skirt protecting the threads can be opened to allow maintenance. With a complete toolset, the crew can make repairs anywhere! Conclusion As a clone brick tank, the parts are quite well made but still cannot achieve the same standard of Lego bricks. There are some soft pieces, like the blue translucent window on the turret with will break if too much pressure is applied (the same piece for Lego I have lasted more than 20 years and still strong). It is also NOT a kid-friendly toy since the gun shoots a small projectile like a plastic bullet. Realistic and like a real tank, but the using small plastic rods to shoot is somewhat dangerous for kids. Some other photos
